That is a brutal nonconference home schedule. Three SWAC opponents plus two others with a NET of 300 or worse last year.

All the better teams are in neutral site games

I would argue the 5 games against RPI anchors negates a ton impact of those bigger games.

I’m not saying go schedule Duke and Kansas but like my argument has always been why are you scheduling the SWAC when there are plenty of teams in bordering states that are 100-200 spots better than the SWAC in the NET and you’d still be a comfortable favorite to beat?

I wonder if the lack of home court advantage before Christmas has any effect on the non conference home games. Could be a way to keep the lights off and save money.

If it were me I’d be playing as many games away from Starkville as possible. Play a game in Tupelo, Southhaven, and Biloxi every year. Maybe Jackson too although I know the Big House ain’t great.

That has become the norm in college basketball. Calipari was ranting about how hard it was to schedule home games this year. As DCD said, the neutral games are the attraction.

Exactly. No one wants to do home and home deals, it’s all about neutral site games.

When you see a schedule that looks like it was desperately built to find a few Ws anywhere that you can find them, it’s typically not a great sign for the season

They’re playing at Marquette, a neutral site game in West Virginia against Xavier, and the battle for Atlantis tournament with Memphis, Wake Forest and Penn State.

This is one of the dumber things we argue about. Just win the games and move on. Of course, the problem is we'll drop a few of them.

Our fans don't show up for pre-SEC home games anyway, never have. We could play North Carolina and the Hump would be half full in December.

I do wonder if the expanded tourney field de-incentives tougher nonconference scheduling a little bit.

That said, why are we playing MVSU? They went 3-30 last year. You’re already playing other bad teams, did you have to schedule the worst team in all of D1 as well?
