Sorry if this has already been discussed...

With the CWS not happening, there is talk that the SEC will continue the conference season after the suspension of games and crown a champion, perhaps play in Hoover. If that happens and other Power 5 conferences follow suit, you might see polls vote and schools claim national titles.

What are your thoughts on this? I know that I don't want a national champion awarded by popular vote. I'm fine with an SEC champion being awarded if it's earned on the field, but I'm also OK with the season not being finished given that no one is going to Omaha. Of course, I'm for whatever the players want though.

I'm HOPING that if that's the case, the NCAA would backtrack on their premature decision and reinstate the tournament and CWS. Maybe reduce the field to 32 if only a few conferences are playing.

I think this will eventually happen, once things settle down in a few weeks.

Hope it happens. Beyond whatever happens or doesn't happen with their team, a lot of these baseball players need a chance to play in front of scouts to help enhance their draft stock for the upcoming MLB draft.

Have the SEC Invitational Tournament in Hoover..... have all the SEC teams bracketed with other teams that want to participate in a double elimination tournament... this after having a shortened SEC Season where you have a Round Robin in East/West to seed tournament....

I don’t see how it can happen....as soon as 1 player gets sick, that team will be quarantined along with every team they played over last 14 days......not the mention the nightmare PR that would result from sending all the students home but “making” the athletes who play for “free” stay on campus and have a higher risk of getting sick.

I simply don't see how this could responsibly be done. When are you talking about resuming play? In a month? What would you need to see related to the coronavirus to make this feasible? A stoppage of the spread? That ain't happening in a month. A slowing of the spread? That simply would prove that social distancing is working. We already have seen basketball coaches, players and referees test positive. It is inevitable that some baseball folks will also. Would the players travel in buses or each player have to take his individual car on road trips? Traveling in buses would be counter to everything that health experts are saying and that isn't going to change in a month. The is a national health emergency.

Yea, I think they're just going to run out of time to do this.

Let's say optimistically that we basically just shut down transmission over the next two months, either b/c social distancing or b/c we get lucky and warm weather really does shut it down more or less. You're still looking at starting a season May 15th. If you just did one series against each division team, it'd be June 14th before you finished that schedule and then I guess could start a tournament on June 18th and finish around June 21st or June 22nd?

That'd be fine I guess, but in reality, it won't be clear cut in the Middle of May that team travel won't cause a risk, and they'd be risking a PR nightmare for a very abbreviated season that probably wouldn't generate a lot of money. Hope they get to do something like that. I'd love to SEC ball to watch up until the start of football season; just donn't think it's likely to happen without some unexpected good news regarding our ability to contain or treat the Wuhan.
