Well, that billboard did not age well. Wonder how long it will take them to get it down? I bet they try to milk it as long as they can.

Is Arkansas the new number 1? I'm surprise we jumped Vandy in one poll.

Its all much ado about nothing as all of this will change especially when conference play rolls around to separate the men from the boys. It was slightly amusing to see UM lose it so quickly though.

The SEC's impressive dominance in Arlington held up well this week.

TCU went 4-0 vs TSU and Liberty
TT went 3-0 sweeping Dallas Baptist
Texas went 4-1 vs BYU

I know, not the best competition but still...

Baseball rankings are all over the place right now. I see three polls out after this weekend. Georgia is ranked #5 in one, unranked in the other two.

I think they should consolidate the polls into just one official poll. Would be less confusing that way.

I hate to rain on this parade, cause it's fun to be #3 and all... but that team I've watched play for about 10 days now is not even a top20 team.

Starting pitching and hitting both need to make some big strides.

Maybe not a top 20 team if we were playing this way at the end of the season, but definitely a top 10 team for now. Lots of talent, good showing in Texas despite numerous pitchers being out, and showed some balls this last weekend despite a lackluster performance.

This is overwrought. Even if you assume the way we played the first two weeks is actually who we are, we're still a top 20 team. We obviously didn't look like a top 5 team, despite putting together a really good record, but it's hard to really judge on such a small sample and against pretty good competition.

Cerantola has had one outing and McLeod has had two. I understand the skepticism on Cernatola being able to put it together at this point, but it would not be some crazy result for that to just be a bad outing and for him to have really put it together, which would make a huge difference in how we look going forward. Rowdy is probably not going to be a sub .150 hitter at this point in his career. Just way to much variation to decide how good we are after two weekends.

Have you seen the rest of the top 20 play?

We only have the rest of the field to compare ourselves with.

We have beaten #19 UT and #10 TTU by similar margins as #4 Ole Miss (who lost the series to UCF) #1 and Arkansas

The rest of the top 20 is not all undefeated.
#2 Vandy dropped one to Georgia State and beat Wright State with a single run scored.
#5 Louisville has had a garbage schedule and dropped one to Western Illinois.
#6 Florida dropped the series to Miami and had to walk off Samford yesterday
#7 UCSB has played nobody (lost to Santa Clara)
#8 UCLA is 4-3 with a series loss to San Francisco and a loss to UC Irvine
#9 Miami, after knocking off Florida, lost 2 of 3 to Virginia Tech.

That's just the top 10. The top 20 includes sad losses to Air Force, Indiana State, Kansas State, Georgia Southern, and Eastern Kentucky.

We’re 3 years removed from a season where the first month of the season was an abject disaster on every possible front, and then that team ended up one win away from the national championship series. And we still have fans doing this whole “we better get our act together” schtick with a team that’s 5-2 against quality competition and who may not lose again until conference play. If we do lose before conference play I bet it’s not more than once or twice.

We’ll be fine. Haven’t seen anything from us yet that convinces me otherwise.

State fans make a conscious choice each morning to gnash their teeth. It has always made the eventual pain of losing somewhat easier to deal with. Please don't begrudge us our primary protection mechanism. It helps if we get to say, 'I told you so.'

But you are correct. We are going to have a fine/fun season. We may make it to Omaha. But we might not. We might win it all, but probably not.

Not to mention, we have two come from behind walk-off wins, which I value at this stage more than some other more sexy stats. If our team batting average was .400 right now, I would know they were going to cool off at some point. But the team grew some balls this week, and hopefully will carry those around all year.

What a crazy year that was. Our record at various points before going to Omaha:
14-15 (2-7)
19-19 (5-10)
24-21 (9-12)
27-24 (11-15)

Yeah, I'm not concerned at 5-2 ranked in the top 5.

You're going to have to forgive me... but we haven't seen a starting pitcher get past the 4th inning yet, right? That's not a recipe for success.

Here's my fear - Cerantola's light switch hasn't went off. And our projection on McLeod being an SEC guy was based off of him beating non-SEC teams last year. McLeod hasn't pitched in an SEC game, yet, right?

I hope they all prove me wrong. But after watching us these past two weekends, I'm a little concerned that we're more in the "fighting for a host spot" rather than the "fighting for a super regional host spot" club.

We kinda had two years in a row like that. The one full Cannizaro season was nuts too. Started 12-10 overall and 0-3 in league play with the most injury ravaged pitching staff I’ve ever seen, then fooled around and won 17 SEC games and won a regional after losing our first game.

It helped a lot that we had probably the greatest team leader on those teams I've ever seen.

We could be in a fighting for a host spot. That'd be disappointing, but that'd mean we were around the top 16 teams. Really that'd probably mean we were more like top 12 or 13 because they're probably going to pass over an SEC team for geographic and conference diversity. I am optimistic but I definitely think top 15 is in play. Sometimes things just don't fall right for you.
