I don't know why one series against Missouri and one bad day at Hoover takes us from #2 or 3 to missing the top 8 myself.

I think it may have something to do with the SEC really deserving 5 of the top 8 seeds but the SEC hate is still strong

Any sport with a postseason tournament literally wipes the slate clean. That's the entire point of postseason tournaments. Your 'lose in the SEC Tournament but do well in the NCAAs' or win the 'SEC Tournament but lose in the first round of the NCAAs' point is applicable to almost every single sport we have.

Limiting SEC teams is part of it, part of it is just that the gap is that narrow at the top, and part of it is that there is recency bias. We have looked like **** in 3 of our last 7 games. It's not like teams don't get lit up during the regular season with lopsided scores and have bad weekends, but it unfortunately matters that we have made such a strong negative impression recently, even though you could have sprinkled those games throughout our schedule and nobody would think anything of them. Hell, if we had looked like **** in one game against Missouri and one game against Bama and won each series 2-1, I don't think people would be as concerned.

But yea, that's the reason people are concerned and while I think we're a national seed regardless (mainly because I don't think the committee members are necessarily watching us, and I don't think it leaves the same bad taste if you just see a box score and are looking in the context of an entire resume), but I don't think their concerns are completely unfounded.

I just don't see any indication the committee limits SEC teams for top seeds. They've had 4 SEC teams in the top 8 seeds the last 2 tournaments they've had. But we probably we never really #2 or #3 prior to Missouri.

I don't think there is any concern about the committee letting the SEC have 4 national seeds. I think there is a concern about Florida or Ole Miss making a strong push and us getting dropped. I'm not sure how realistic that is but if we don't at least show up today, I'm not sure how the committee will view us looking like **** in 4 of our last 8 games.

If they put much emphasis on that last 2+ weeks, we won't be a national seed. But that's got nothing to do with any limits on SEC seeds, it's simply that we don't deserve it.

And THAT is why I was so pissed when Sims didn't pitch the 9th inning (3 freakin' outs) in the Sunday South Carolina game. We acted like the SEC title didn't even matter. Its only about the NCAA tournament and we are too good to worry about the SEC and have to make sure we don't ever stress anyone in the regular season. But the odds of us EVER winning the NC are still fairly small. In our entire history we've only gotten into the title series (or game) once, and even then we never got to a game that had we won would have given us a NC. We are a very good program but there is so much randomness in baseball, plus the luck factor is never on our side, that you better win whatever titles you can when you can.
