The team sits at 5-7 in conference after four series against teams with a composite 34-20 record in the Big Ten. Remaining are six series against teams with a composite Big Ten record of 26-49. Some freshmen are starting to come around and the coaching staff is defining roles now. I think that when all is done for this year, they will far exceed what we saw on paper coming in.

He uses 12 position players. Six play every game, 2 catchers, 2 second basemen, and rotates Johnson, Hyde, and Sweeney at dh and left field.

These are the areas where things have kind of gotten more settled. Tomasetto has pretty much given way to Thompson at second base. Sweeney has become the everyday designated hitter, but has not played in the outfield at all. Johnson used to be the everyday left fielder with Hyde rotating in as designated hitter, but since Johnson has been slumping, he has become a late inning defensive replacement and Hyde has been playing left field.
