We are basically rooting for the Oakland Athletics and expecting to compete with the Dodgers.

Pike has a ton to answer for and this isn’t in defense of him. I have many issues with his coaching but nothing that hasn’t been stated 1000 times on this site.

That said, I learned more information from an insider at another B1G school and we are working with about 1/3rd of the budget needed to compete for a conference title. Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, and others spent over $10M. Their starting fives cost significantly more than our entire roster.

Pike may be part of the problem, but no coach will succeed without a major change in funding. This will all come down to KZ being able to fundraise or we’ll be doomed to the basement.

Look, that may be true about the B1G but it doesn't explain not being able to compete with CCSU and SHU, at all.

Braden Smith and Yaxel Lendeborg are each rumored to be receiving as much as (maybe even more than) our entire roster combined. NIL is obviously an issue and it will keep us from being good but we shouldn’t need it to compete with mediocre teams like Seton Hall. It’s more than just NIL.

I know you’re mad but CCSU is not even in the same conversation as SHU. SHU is good and play fun basketball. It’s amazing what an i flux of MJ ey can do. They are rumored to be spending almost double on their roster than we did.

Seton halls entire roster wasn’t on their roster last year

they had more than double $ that we had AND spent it wisely

they will be in the new conversation

Certainly true. I have a good case study. What would our 2021 roster have cost us in NIL? Ron

Two things can be true at the same time. Pike has run his course at RU and it appears time to move on.....AND.....a new HC will only be a band aid to the problem facing RU Athletics. The root cause is relative lack of disposable funding to address player recruitment as well as paying through quicker coaching changes.

I believe they raised more money and obviously had more revenue share dedicated

the problem is state university shouldn’t have trouble competing financially with its perceived little brother

Meh, Pikiell was gifted Dylan and Ace last year and ended the year 15-17. He's had 3 legit NBA players on his roster in recent years and didn't make the tournament with any of them (Cam). He's had good rosters and has constantly underperformed (yes, that includes not making the Sweet 16 and losing in the First Four).
