Around 2002 or so, my friend, who was of Greek heritage, ordered a gyro (correctly pronounced “yiro”). She promptly corrected him and said, “you mean ‘jiro’ ?” I’ve called it that ever since.

I wonder if "engie instructs Miss Rosalind how to make a southwestern omelette" will be in this week's SPS Magazine?

If you want to get really pedantic, 'gyro' is incorrect even with the 'correct' pronunciation. It's 'gyros' whether it's singular or plural.

I tried for four years to get that woman to smile. She made a badass omelet. It was perfect every time.

I always said Seinfeld's Soup Nazi was modeled after her. You order correct or get corrected. She was the the ultimate cafeteria heel.

“Chicken pita quesadilla” back in the last 90s/ early 2000s. We would position ourselves in line in order to get her and not the other lady. The difference in quality was staggering.

Now at breakfast, if you ordered cheese on your eggs, it was at best a 50-50 shot whether or not you would get it. See the Seinfeld reference above.

This is absolute truth. One year (somewhere in the late 90's) she was given an award at MSU's Staff Appreciation Day, and she had a very impressive turnout in her support by staff and students.

OMG, Ms. Sunshine made me the first omelette I ever ate. I loved trying to make her smile, never suceeded. I know deep down that was her thing, stay straight faced no matter what this guy says.

To get really, really pedantic (my specialty), a gyro (pronounced like gyroscope) is of Middle Eastern origin, while a gyros (typically pronounced yeee ros) is Greek.

ETA the terminology for these kinds of sandwiches is kind of evolving so I think both pronunciations are pretty acceptable.

Ms. Rosalind made my breakfast daily for most of the time I was at State. She kind of frightened me in those days because in her youth she had RBF like nobody else I've ever seen. In my adulthood I have had the opportunity to talk with her a little more and I wish I had been bolder as a student.*

Hope Ms. Rosalind is doing well.

Every day I’d walk in, shed look up and say “Might I helpedchoo?” I still say it all the time.
