Is it basically a matter of we get one and Duke gets one? I don't follow this stuff that closely, but I'm guessing they aren't both going to the same place, so after one commits, does the other one just pick the other?
The way Duke is going, they'll probably land both of them.Is it basically a matter of we get one and Duke gets one? I don't follow this stuff that closely, but I'm guessing they aren't both going to the same place, so after one commits, does the other one just pick the other?
This board cracks me up. A couple weeks ago we were projected by all of you to get this guy and that guy and we were going to have an amazing class. Now, we aren't getting anyone.

I'd be OK with UK getting neither, as long as they land Louis King. Sure would be a helluva consolation prize!
Duke thinks they still have a great shot at Williamson.
If Duke were to land Reddish, Barrett, & Williamson I may have to walk away from basketball for awhile.

Maybe you need to stop reading Duke boards. Shocks me how insecure some of you are. Have some confidence in your coach and stop being a little bit.
He pulled a rabbit out of his *** with Duval and Bagley. After the bad publicity and **** show that was last year, after Coach deKrepit missing much of the year and not working much with the team because of his health issues, after the negative press and negative perceptions and unlikeability of so many of their players over the years (Grayson Allen, The Plumlees, Austin Rivers, etc.), after the almost annual bad publicity surrounding disgruntled transfers, after the disappointing NBA careers of so many of their players, and finally - after Duke fans (if you followed their message boards) heaped hatred and completely bailed on last year's team by January because they dared not to be the immense juggernaut they expected...
...after all that, how the Hell does Duke continue to recruit so well? How do kids like Reddish watch that growing up and say - yeah, I love It - I want to grow up to be the next Grayson Allen? I seriously don't understand why so many kids grow up liking Duke.
I don't even understand why Barrett and Reddish would consider playing together at Duke, given K's history of playing small ball. Both guys want to play the 2, neither will play the 2 in K's system. They are 3/4's in K's system. K prefers to play PG, CG, SG, SF, PF/C.
I bet if Barrett and Reddish sign at Duke, K puts on the full court press for Garland to be his 2. Right now he is selling Barrett and Reddish on being the 2 and 3. Once he gets them, he can then go after the backcourt guy he wants to go with Jones. Once they get on campus, he'll tell them to get over it and that he will play the best players together and that will be Jones, Garland, Barrett, and Reddish (plus whoever they have get inside). Classic Duke lineup.
Meanwhile Cal is telling them to watch how he plays Knox and Diallo together on the wing and that they can slide right in to their spots. And that's no lie. Cal wants to go as big as he can. That is one reason why he wants bigs with guard skills (like Knox, Vanderbilt, Washington).
Two different philosophies. K's wins games at the college level. Cal's prepares players for the pros. Can't argue with either philosophy, though.
I just hope Barrett and Reddish understand both philosophies.
Very interesting about their two differing philosophies. The question is, is there proof that kids prefer one philosophy over another? Each coach is landing top tier recruits. Many will say "kids want to be prepared for the pros", but if so many are choosing the philosophy that wins college games (Coach K/Duke), is it true that recruits main focus is the pros?
This reminded me a recent quote from Shittu where he described UK as a "business-type of environment." I know recruits sometimes refer to Duke as more a family or 'brotherhood' environment.Very interesting about their two differing philosophies.
