Barrett and Reddish

Is it basically a matter of we get one and Duke gets one? I don't follow this stuff that closely, but I'm guessing they aren't both going to the same place, so after one commits, does the other one just pick the other?

The consensus seems to be that Barrett is better, but is there more to go on other than the U19 performances? Is Reddish the better perimeter shooter?

Reddish is going to Duke. (Then again I'm basing this on the same people who reported Knox was either going to Duke or UNC) I hope Cal can land Barrett as he would be a massive get in a class that could be stacked toward the top.

Reddish goes to Duke or UK. Unfortunately there are a lot of folks in on Barrett still that have a legit chance. So I don't think they split with UK/Duke necessarily.

Hoping UK lands Quickley soon and he can hit up his friends to get some additional commitments. Sick of all the positive Duke recruiting news.

There's a chance we could miss on all of Barrett, Reddish, and Williamson.

Although I would think there's a better chance of a team landing both Barrett and Williamson than Barrett and Reddish, because the latter two will both want to share ball handling duties with the PG.

Duke thinks they still have a great shot at Williamson.

If Duke were to land Reddish, Barrett, & Williamson I may have to walk away from basketball for awhile.

I think UK is the team to beat for Zion and if Reddish goes to Duke, the team to beat for Barret. I will wait for Duke to actually get a better class than us before I start whining about Cals recruiting. After all Cal has been on a recruiting binge the last 8 years that has been unmatched in modern history.

I hope we land Zion and one of the two of Reddish and Barrett.

We've had some recruits that didn't pan out, but we haven't ever had a bad class on paper while Cal is here that didn't feature top 10 talent. I don't look for that to change.

This board cracks me up. A couple weeks ago we were projected by all of you to get this guy and that guy and we were going to have an amazing class. Now, we aren't getting anyone.

The way Duke is going, they'll probably land both of them.

I wouldn't bet on that.

Duke gets Bagley. The sky is falling.

I'd be OK with UK getting neither, as long as they land Louis King. Sure would be a helluva consolation prize!

I like King, I also liked Vince Carter... but I'd be upset if I had the opportunity to grab Jordan or Kobe instead...

I don't even understand why Barrett and Reddish would consider playing together at Duke, given K's history of playing small ball. Both guys want to play the 2, neither will play the 2 in K's system. They are 3/4's in K's system. K prefers to play PG, CG, SG, SF, PF/C.

I bet if Barrett and Reddish sign at Duke, K puts on the full court press for Garland to be his 2. Right now he is selling Barrett and Reddish on being the 2 and 3. Once he gets them, he can then go after the backcourt guy he wants to go with Jones. Once they get on campus, he'll tell them to get over it and that he will play the best players together and that will be Jones, Garland, Barrett, and Reddish (plus whoever they have get inside). Classic Duke lineup.

Meanwhile Cal is telling them to watch how he plays Knox and Diallo together on the wing and that they can slide right in to their spots. And that's no lie. Cal wants to go as big as he can. That is one reason why he wants bigs with guard skills (like Knox, Vanderbilt, Washington).

Two different philosophies. K's wins games at the college level. Cal's prepares players for the pros. Can't argue with either philosophy, though.

I just hope Barrett and Reddish understand both philosophies.

Long time reader, new at posting.. you guys realize national experts are only predicting ONE guy (IQ) to commit to UK according to crystal ball and others. I can't believe these guys get paid for these idiotic predictions? Point being cal will get his, and no one will know until they commit or right at the time, cause call doesn't leak any info to these dudes. So they will continue to predict top players to Duke.

Maybe you need to stop reading Duke boards. Shocks me how insecure some of you are. Have some confidence in your coach and stop being a little bit.

Kansas is much more of a threat for Williamson at this point.

Offered 2 teammates, Adidas is fully in picture, pulling out all stops.

Don't forget that KU is the only school allowed to offer mom and pops loans based upon future NBA earnings without vacating any games or the slightest of penalties...

Barrett likes oregon more than duke. Only reddish likes us and duke. Itd actually be funnier to get reddish and oregon get barrett and duke nothing. They can go kick sand.

After the bad publicity and **** show that was last year, after Coach deKrepit missing much of the year and not working much with the team because of his health issues, after the negative press and negative perceptions and unlikeability of so many of their players over the years (Grayson Allen, The Plumlees, Austin Rivers, etc.), after the almost annual bad publicity surrounding disgruntled transfers, after the disappointing NBA careers of so many of their players, and finally - after Duke fans (if you followed their message boards) heaped hatred and completely bailed on last year's team by January because they dared not to be the immense juggernaut they expected...

...after all that, how the Hell does Duke continue to recruit so well? How do kids like Reddish watch that growing up and say - yeah, I love It - I want to grow up to be the next Grayson Allen? I seriously don't understand why so many kids grow up liking Duke.

Very interesting about their two differing philosophies. The question is, is there proof that kids prefer one philosophy over another? Each coach is landing top tier recruits. Many will say "kids want to be prepared for the pros", but if so many are choosing the philosophy that wins college games (Coach K/Duke), is it true that recruits main focus is the pros?

A handful of guys like Bagley, Tatum, Okafor, Parker, etc. realize they will be drafted no matter where they go and choose Duke. They like the prestige of being a "Dukie."

I think the guys that are choosing Cal in recent years are the next tier guys looking for that edge that will put them in the lottery and give them a long career. Guys like Fox, Monk, Bam, Murray, Booker, Lyles, etc.

Notice Cal is not getting as many top 5 guys. They are listening to all the coaches telling them it doesn't matter where you go, you are good enough to go in the lottery.

Cal hasn't gotten a composite top 5 player since Labissiere in 2015.

He has gotten several guys in the top 10-15 since then. Fox, Monk, Bam, Gabriel, Knox, Diallo, Vanderbilt, and Washington

I think this is due to coaches selling kids on the idea that if you are top 5, it doesn't matter where you go. They have been trying to say this for years, but their case is made stronger since Labissiere didn't quite pan out.

Capel has used this strategy to perfection recently. Self has as well.

I think as more and more of Cal's guys get monster second contracts while KU and Duke players fall off in droves to the wayside, kids will see through this and realize it does matter what you do for one year in college and that Cal prepares you for a long pro career.

This reminded me a recent quote from Shittu where he described UK as a "business-type of environment." I know recruits sometimes refer to Duke as more a family or 'brotherhood' environment.

Don't know if those two descriptions are accurate, but I think a lot of top recruits would be attracted to one but not the other. I think a 'business' environment would be easier to recruit against, especially when the coaches are talking to the parents.

My impression of Cal is he takes a real interest in the players and their futures, so maybe Shittu's description is off-base and not widely shared by other recruits and their families.

Dook nomads were out in force back then. Cal must like his chances if he scheduled them next season. Hopefully the exact same result as last time.
