Do you realize that the Big Dog supports him? I'm going with that instead of your dumb ***.
I think the tweet by Big Dog was Marrow not being completely honest. Everyone knows that Matt Jones gets his info from Big Dog. I didn’t hear the show, but when he went on his rant yesterday, I’m sure Big Dogg felt the need to say something to try and smooth things over a little with Mitch.

I just can't get past the timing of the Barnhart has to go narrative, only a couple of weeks after he shuts Cal's "The reason we aren't winning is because we don't have the best practice facility in the nation" distraction down.

He was 3 years. 6-7 in year 1, 5-7 in year 2 and 2-10 in year 3.

Mark Stoops is a first time HC and worked out just fine. Kirby Smart is a first time HC and doing well. Sam Pittman is a first time HC and just went 9-4 in his second year at Arkansas. Shane Beamer is the other first time coach in the SEC and he just went 7-6 in his first season at USC after they won 6 games combined the 2 prior years. So, 4 first year coaches. One won the national title, 2 finished ranked in the top 20 and the 3rd had a winning record for his school after the previous coach won 2 and 4 games in the 2 seasons prior to his arrival.

He was not an awful, awful hire at the time it was made according to most. He just didn’t work out. When he was named the next HC, he was coming off year 3 as OC to back-to-back 8-5 teams, which was unheard of for UK back then. We were 8-5 both years because of our offense. We averaged 27ppg and then 37ppg in those 2 years prior to him being named HC. For comparison, we averaged 31ppg this year.
You can name people that have done uncommon stuff in everything over the years. I doubt anyone would agree with you that it was a good hire at the time, it was a lazy hire is what it was. Not trying to argue with you though. I could have swore he was only here 2 years lol. Thanks for that info. I think we can all agree we’re pretty content with where we are. Just gotta step that recruting(NIl) up a notch or two.

I’ve been wanting Mitch gone for YEARs so I don’t apply to that scenario. Lol.

He fired Gillispie after 2 seasons and fired Joker after 3 seasons, so it seems highly unlikely that he’s afraid of firing people.

And after Stoops went 2-10 his first season here, Barnhart had the foresight to give him a contract extension and a raise. Not sure how many ADs would’ve done that.
The fans had to practically beg Mitch to fire Joker. Had we had more than 100 fans show up for the Vandy game that year, I have no doubt he’d bring Joker back.

Mitch hates to search for new coaches.

I have to comment on your first sentence. It’s not uncommon if there are 4 coaches in the SEC that are currently at their first head coaching job and all 4 schools are really happy with them. Those aren’t outliers, those are the norm. There is no proven formula in the SEC for a successful head coach. Some first year coaches work, some don’t. Some guys who have success at lesser programs work, some don’t. Some guys who have had success at bigger programs work and some don’t.

Yeah, you know more than the Big Dog. Mitch ain’t the problem

Come on. That's basically a hostage note written hastily after Jones apparently outed Mitch on air.

Mitch does an amazing job in non revenue sports. We shouldn't want rid of him. He just needs to change some of the approaches on revenue sports. Problem is - he won't.

So that's the quandary

He fired them after we broke out the torches and pitchforks. Re.ember the microwave quote?

Remember when Joker quit in the middle of a game? "Let's just go home boys!" He should have been canned the very next day. Period. End of story.

I want Mitch here, but I tire of his Ward Cleaver routine. I remember a scene from Leave it to Beaver where Ward told the boys to "Come here, fellows." That's Mitch. We're his fellows and he wants to teach us that NIL is bad for the sport and alcohol is wrong (unless you give one of his departments money. Lot's of money).

My sense is that he is a risk averse beurocrat that thinks like a lawyer. Instics are to take the safe, plotically correct route. Play the numbers and outlast the other guys. In an industry rife with innovation, change, and sharks.

Another idiot post by an idiot Troll who has a miserable life.

Sparked by a national championship in rifle, an NCAA runner-up slot by men’s tennis, and third-place national finishes by women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, University of Kentucky Athletics’ historic run of success continues with the highest overall finish in school history – ninth place – in the final 2021-22 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings released Tuesday.

The ninth-place ranking eclipsed the previous school record of 10th place in 2016-17. UK Athletics also extended its streaks of five years in a row in the top 20 and 10 consecutive years in the top 30, not including the 2019-20 school year when there were no standings kept because of the cancellation of winter and spring sports championships. The Directors’ Cup began in 1993-94 and the best eight finishes in school history have been under current Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart, all of which have come in the last nine years.

From the start of the delayed 2020 Olympics, Kentucky Wildcats were breaking records with a school-record 22 athletes participating in The Games. The number of UK athletes alone was larger than delegations from 106 countries, territories and principalities vying for medals in Japan.

UK finished the Olympics with a school-record 12-medals — eight gold, three silver and one bronze. Previously, the men’s basketball program held the record with nine medals in 1948. With a dozen medals, if UK was matched against countries medaling at The Games it would make the top 20. And according to Twitter account Olympians Made Here, UK tied for seventh in U.S. colleges earning medals in Tokyo.

Just maybe, after this fiasco with the player that shall not be named, Mitch is setting the bar that we will not be taken advantage of. The OP is so stupid he doesn’t realized people in high position doesn’t show his true position in the public eye.

Congratulations to all the Student Athletes of the University Of Kentucky
Great Job!!!!!!!
OP is an Idiot Troll

That’s great you care so much about winning in the other sports. And I get why Mitch is Mitch, his wife was a college volleyball player. But most of us invest most of our time in Men’s Basketball and Football, the only two sports that turn a profit and fund all the other teams. I believe those two should be a little more important than the other 16 teams. Unfortunately I don’t think Mitch looks at it that way. And that is the problem.

The game was canceled due to weather.

I think he does, he has to, or he wouldn't be employed very long. He just happens to want to invest in other sports beyond Basketball and Football. We aren't going to be in a Football championship game in the near future and sadly our basketball program is uneven. Landing a rifle or volleyball championship is good press and a cheap investment in the scheme of things. Look at our women's track - we are doing something right there as well.

Now I do agree with the person that said Mitch thinks like a lawyer. He failed badly with Gillispie and he didn't want Cal. Secretly he probably thinks he was right about Cal given their relationship. There have been times when I don't agree with Mitch, but I'm not going to bag on him for promoting other sports. That's what college should be about if you are an AD, and he should leverage our money makers in support of it. Increasing tickets prices though? Boooooo. Use that SEC money. I think that is his biggest challenge - keeping attendance going with Millineals and Gen Z

It's not stupid. He has to go. Been the AD for 20 years and not a good return. In fact the basketball program took a step back. We can talk about football all we want. They haven't done nothing in the SEC. And maybe only better than Vandy and USC in the time period.
Such a foolish post. You HAVE to be a troll . There’s no way you could possibly be that ignorant.

I can't imagine anyone on here cares about winning in basketball more than I but one thing I know is that Life is a River. It is all flowing. Just because Mitch gives an athlete that aspires to great his or her whole life to succeed in college in something other than football or basketball doesn't have any effect on whether we win in college basketball or football one iota. To even think that is a sorry way to look at life. Our college football team has never really won anything and it makes the most money not because of the team we are, it's because what conference it is in.
In all my life never have I ever heard blame be put on the AD for basketball for winning or not winning. Don't tell me it is now! Our football team has never won until this AD and now we want him fired. Some of our fans, classic stupidity!!

AD doesn’t affect winning or losing. Hmmm. I guess our bb program just lucked out with cm newton and have a tendency to under perform under this ad? Is this your contention? As for fb. Do you watch it? Do you know Barney didn’t have stoops on his radar that stoops put himself there? Like I said before the success in athletics with barney at the helm has come at the expense of many failures. Any AD whose flagship program has underachieved as our bb program has throughout his tenure would have been tossed when he wrote bcgs contract on a napkin. Any man who hired joker Phillips even at a basketball school anywhere else that man would have been fired. Same goes with cals lame contract extension and subsequent back to back massive failures. Do you know what the average time for an ad? Barney has tripled it in his time here and I see nothing he has done to justify it.

btw Barney is currently the 4th longest serving athletics director in D1 athletics. I’m sorry but he hasn’t earned that

The checkerboards are gone. I said I’d support him if that happens, and here we are. It kind of feels like blackmail though, because what kind of leader ruins a legacy out of stubbornness and perhaps Tennessee involvement.

It’s in the bottom 5 of worst decisions in the entire history of this department, and he was in charge. Your jersey is your identity, just look at ND football or Yankees baseball. We don’t have that partly because we spent a decade dressing up all of our student athletes as Checkers employees.

I'm still scratching my head over when it was that Barnhart's balls finally dropped. Granted, he only told the fat jagoff that he wasn't getting a new basketball dorm, but Barnie finally grew a pair and told Calipari "no." 🎯
