Fulky had that one decent year after Admiral Scofield and team all graduates and there was a rebuild going on.
He’s been bad last year and not good this year as teams just hammer him in the paint and his scoring isn’t there

is it fair game to do it to media ../.perhaps not. But he’s been poor

I think it’s the “step aside” comment that he’s catching flak over. Anyone that watches Fulky can’t honestly say dude doesn’t hustle. It’s like Huggins calling Oscar lazy.

Last sentence is perfectly fine. That first comment was unprofessional. That’s a comment best left for private. Nobody wants to be chewed out like that in front of God and everybody outside of the team. In front of team. Fine. In front of outside parties? That’s just wrong.

Reminds me of my early days working when my boss chewed me out over a very small mistake in front of customers. Lady saw it, put down her 1000 dollar purchase I was helping her with and walked out. We lost a sale because my boss decided to be a mega jerk. He later apologized, but only after the customer complained, his boss griped at him (on a private phone call I might add), and my direct supervisor stood up for me.

Time and place folks.

Dude you’re acting like Barnes shot him. I applaud Barnes for being honest. Fulkerson has been there 6 years. Its not like he’s a freshman.
Right, He's a grown-*** man, he has gray hair ..it's not like talking to a 17-18-year-old kid

To me that didn’t sound like a personal attack which I don’t like from players or coaches. It was just saying step up which is what a coach is supposed to do. If he knows Fullerton will respond to that then he should push that button.

Holy cow that's awful. I don't like fulkerson but it's for all the right reasons. He's tough, makes hustle plays, and seems to always be making a positive difference for his team.

I hope a UK coach never says anything like this publicly. It's awful
lol, tough? hustle plays? Do you mean he flops like a fish out of water and acts like he has been murdered every time someone is physical towards him? Maybe his team enjoys drama and scrapes positivity off his acting abilities, but he really isn't that great of a player if the drama doesn't work for him.

I give him no credit and I think his coach is just trying to fire him up.

That’s also the pro level where I’m completely fine with it. Unless you’re Urban Meyer and you’re doing it to prop your own stupid decisions up. Those are full grown men who’s entire job is to play a game.

Doing it at the collegiate level and below is kinda crappy. I don’t like it when Cal does it either. They’re still students learning the game

Is it the most awful thing? No. But it’s still kinda crappy thing to do to say an 18 year old kid. I know Fulky is like 50 by now but still; say something like “His play wasn’t great today and that’s something we will work on”. Player still gets called out and you don’t crap all over him at the same time.

At the pro level? Sure. Call him everything in he book.

Ivr said way worse to players in high school and my coaches did at all levels. If the players realize it’s out of respect and making them tougher it’s a good thing.

You’re being too soft here. Also college players are adult age, and they get paid to play. They are professionals now. No more “kid”, they’re adults.

Did you say it to fans or the local press? That’s the difference here.

Why does every thread turn into Cal hate?
It doesn't, the board regularly rags on other coaches and teams for doing
things they don't like or don't believe to be proper. If Cal or a player does the same thing then 10 posters will find 10 different ways to justify it. Barnes said what he said and I don't have a problem with it. Like another poster said players want to get paid big bucks then being held accountable for their play comes with the territory.

I mean, Cal called Jones a selfish mother Fu**er on national television, said he didn't know who Vanderbilt was, and has made odd comments about Allen. Plus, had the issues last year with Fletcher and the year before with Hagans. Not sure this is all that bad.
Not even close, Cal didn't say that publicly about Jones and you know it. I'm sure the other Div 1 coaches. don't cuss at their players.

We didn’t have “the press” er social media in those days. I think Barnes knows what he’s doing with his upperclassman. If we’re to the point in America where saying something like that is out of bounds, then we’re headed to a bad place where we definitely won’t have the civilians capable of being a super power. We’re all on borrowed time, the only powerful image still lingering is from the older generations before the boomers.

You didn’t have a local newspaper?

We had ICQ in middle school and I was in high school during the start of MySpace.

Coaches put things out in the media for a reason. That is intentional.

I don’t really care about their tactics. I’ve told this story before but it’s good to repeat it for the hardened Cal guys that have given him an image that doesn’t exist. Ask Antonio Anderson how sweet Calipari can be. Personally witnessed him go Bob Knight on Tony and he talks about it to this day. Brutal isn’t the word. Doesn’t matter with media or without, these coaches can be vicious. What Barnes did doesn’t come close to what I’ve seen Calipari do to players he’s tearing down. None of this matters.

If there was a camera on Calipari going at Antonio Anderson in those closed practices he would be fired today. No question about it.

I just get so irritated when people buy the image people like Calipari PORTAY to the media. I couldn’t care less about a coach doing it with the media.

I think in context it isnt as bad because of it being Fulkerson instead of a freshman. Fulkerson is actually older than, Fox, Monk, Bam, and Brandon Ingram. He's only a couple months younger than Jamal Murray.

A good leader handles it in house before it gets to that point and moves on if it isn’t fixed. Maybe not even for the benefit of that player but one who may want to come to the university later on. Huge difference between the locker room, huddle, or practice and the sports media.

Can’t hide behind the student angle anymore, these kids can make money now. Everyone knows they are basically there to go pro or try to at major schools. He probably shouldn’t have said move over but I don’t have a problem with him calling him out, he knows him better than we do. Maybe it will motivate him.

I don’t have a problem with the call out either. That’s fine. The “gtho” was a little much.

It is Cal hate. When every thread turns into an excuse to bash Cal what do you call it? Nice win last night and dumb asses find a thread about Barnes to bash Cal. Same guys same Bull **** every thread. Idiots don’t enjoy wins. Spend more time bashing Cal than enjoying wins. Bunch of miserable bastards. I have expressed my feelings.
You could have told them in private! Seems sort of harsh to me! Lol!

Well maybe Fulky can get a Penn State Wrestling Mormon Shirt and transfer here for a 7th year of eligibility and put up 25/10 a game on the coach that badmouthed him.

Kind of like how Huggins badmouthed Tshiebwe.

I've been waiting for Fulkerson to "Move along" since the 1970's it seems.

It would be fine with me to see him go ahead and mosey on off for permanent retirement on old rocky top.

NOW

thank you for the timely throw your player under the bus comment, Rick!

Harsh or no?

Nah. Barnes just getting Fulky primed to take 5 charges and flop like a fish everytime Big O gets close to him.

He knows that flopping SOS will get to shoot at least 15 free throws against KY if he can get him to sacrifice his body for the good of the team....

It could go one of two ways:
1. Fulkerson may take offense and play like crap.
2. Fulkerson may take it to heart and play like a man possessed.

For my part, I don't think it is wise to call out a particular player like this in the media unless they're causing turmoil on the team or breaking rules, and etc. I would prefer to deal with these things privately or, at worst, in practice.

Maybe because people like to express their feelings.
BS! This discussion was about another coach and another team but as usual the agenda driven morons who let Cal live in their mind find away to hijack yet another thread.

You don't think most every coach most every game cusses someone on the floor? Lol
Common today as it was when I played back in the 80’s and early 90’s. My 14 year old kids coach cusses like a sailor. They pay it no mind and listen to the message in the middle of it all.

One of Bob Knight's asst coach told players, when he calls you an ahole don't listen to him, when he tells you why you are an ahole then listen lol
