There were a lot of reasons to not win this game tonight. Missing our best offensive weapon, our back up center, and a banged up Young. Our young guys were forced into more action than they've probably seen all year. This is the recipe for a game you could have real reasons to not walk away winning.

But they preserved. Hats of Montez who played his best offensive game of his career. While he can sometimes leave you scratching your head, he was shooting the ball lights out tonight. Great game.

Free throws! Team effort on that one. Best FT shooting game I can remember, right when we needed it.

Pike! Going deep into the roster with some kids who have never played a B1G game, and getting some solid minutes, was a great move. I am going to call out Reiber who I have questioned. Tonight I saw it. Congrats to Palmquist hitting his first B1G 3. I suspect we are going to see more of those in the next few years. He's got a real nice stroke.

Overall, really impressed with this win. If we can win games like this, we can win any when we are fully loaded. Let's hope Ron and Cliff come back soon and strong.

And Young? Take an ice bath and a some time off. You earned it.

My son (16) has been all over Palmquist all year. As soon as he hit his first 3, all was forgotten. Good for him. Hope there are many more to follow.

I know Purdue isn’t great this year , but this could be a program defining win. I know we are expected to win now and have won games this year mr last year but this is something else . Winning without your best player and multiple others out or playing hurt ; that’s what makes champions.
Also 81 points without your leading scorer . Our team is almost unrecognizable from years past

Rarely in our Athletic Program (not just MBB or Football) could you say Rutgers and depth in the same sentence without adding the word “lacking” in there somewhere too.

Just be sure to be back for Saturday.

100%. I am watching Iowa. They are very, very good. Obviously shooting the lights out. We need all our guys for that one.

On a side note, NW is good too. Their center Nance is a match up issue. He can shoot the three and take guys off the dribble as a 5. I am interested in seeing Cliff guard him.
Garza, we all know what he is. Going to have to get up in their shorts all game and make it hard for them to get good looks. They make them when they do.

We have to make Garza work on d. Get him in a lot of pick and rolls because he doesn’t move his feet well and at least it makes him work. I’d go 1/5 pick and roll all day with Jacob and some 2/5 with geo .

100% agree. Nothing easy.

NW has some nice pieces, but they are soft.

Northwestern is very skilled and run some good stuff , all 5 out stuff . They can all shoot the 4 which makes them difficult to defend but I agree they are soft and we can attack them in the paint and in. transition. They are learning how to win though this year

Good post. And, we let them go on a 30-10 run to go from up 38-23 to down 53-48 and at that point it would've been easy to fold like we did at the end of the OSU game. But the team dug deep and said no effing way and got it done with better defense, some timely shots and great FT shooting. Great win.

I want to see us run Iowa off the 3 point line. Force them to dribble drive. Whatever we can do to make them uncomfortable. We cannot allow them to run unfettered sets to get open looks for 3. That's not going to work.

Reiber can play. He's a very smart player. Very good defensively and he has a knack for being around the ball. I was very impressed with his jumper. He needs to play every night.

I actually think playing Purdue tonight helps us with Iowa. Even though they can’t shoot the 3, Purdue runs great sets and runs guys off a lot of staggers and moves the ball really well. Also Williams is not Garza but is a hell of a player . Myles needs to be much more physical than he was tonight . If they call fouls they call fouls

I agree. I was quick to jump the gun on him. I'd like to see more. His outside shot is better than I thought it was.
