It was't directly over the rim. The ball wasn't going in. I wanted the win as much as anyone, but I'm not going to distort reality as a coping mechanism.

The ball was directly above the rim. Did you not see the replay from over the backboard?

I think a lot of you do not understand the rule. It does not have to be coming down, does not have to be on the rim, or literally in the cylinder. After a shot & ball hits rim it CANNOT BE TOUCHED ABOVE THE CYLINDER.

We've had 2 posters post the dang rule & some of you morons still do not understand

The ball came off the rim. It was the right call. Originally, in real time, I thought it was goaltending but the other angle showed the refs got it right.
You're a fuking idiot. The ball can be off the rim but, still in the cylinder. Learn the damn rules before opening your hole.
Refs missed goaltending plain and simple and you don't know enough about the game to understand that.

Quit crying, dude. It’s a meaningless regular season game that you weren’t even on the floor to play. Quit basing your identity and your emotions on a game played by kids.

I thought they said UK fans were knowledgeable. We apparently have some of the dumbest sob’s on the planet if you don’t think that wasn’t goaltending. Holy crap.

So defensive goaltending before the offensive goaltending. I don’t see you crying about us getting away with sticking our hand through the the rim on the shot.

It's irrelevant if it looked like the ball was going to go in or not.

It was still over the cylinder. I'm baffled by all the debate.

Im not sure what game you watched. How can you say that ball wasnt above the rim? So, youre saying that ball was completely out of the cylinder that extends up??? You can easily see some proof a couple posts up if youd like
The unbiased version evidently. In neither picture are they even touching the ball yet, and the first one shows it clearly coming out of the cylinder. They won fair and square bud, we blew it. Hopefully we get them again in the SEC tourney. Take the blue shades off and step away for a bit. It's all okay.

how do officials miss that

^^^^This Times 1000^^^^^

Someone please explain to me how it can even be argued that it was not in the cylinder.

Morons like Karl Ravech who say it was off the rim are actually making the incorrect statement.

It has ZERO to do with whether it was on the rim.

The rule as I have always understood it is was the ball within the invisible cylinder that extends all the way up above the rim. The ball can be a foot off the rim and still be In the cylinder. That is why people can’t just go up and grab shots that are bouncing around the rim if they are still within the cylinder.

How do any basketball fans with even a modicum of knowledge not know this? How could you watch the replay and claim otherwise. It wasn’t even close.

If someone tells me that is not a reviewable call is the only reason I will accept the call at the end. That is still BS but at least that makes sense if it’s not a reviewable call.

I believe the ball was above the rim but I’m not sure it even matters..We got beat by a better team.. LSU can easily reach the final four with the talent they have.. UK has to get tougher going forward

bottom line.....that last play didn't lose the game for us........that game was lost in who wanted it more..........lots of bad shots in the second half.....rebounding wasn't the best.....missed free throws......poor 3 pt shooting..........

The last play—BY DEFINITION—lost UK the game.

I hate this argument. I know what you mean and to an extent I agree. The guys did not bring the level of intensity that was needed tonight. They just didn’t.

But please do not let the terrible officiating off the hook by saying these things. They don’t have to be exclusive of each other. UK can play bad and still get hosed by the refs. It’s not a zero sum game.

Not directed at you personally BTW. I just keep seeing this. It is so frustrating to lose by officials making a mistake. Lose on last second shot—is what it is. Lose on last second offensive goaltending—not so much for me.

I will sleep soundly tonight either way. But damn it is unfathomable to me how any UK fans could watch that play and the overhead replay and exclaim that the call was valid. Weird.

Hey there brotha—you wanna espouse the virtues of terrible officiating go on over to the LSU board. I’m sure all 3 of them will take you in like family with that opinion.

I don’t mind that you have a different opinion than me. What I do mind is you apologizing on my behalf for your assumption that my opinion is not only Incorrect but not appealing to opposing fans? Weird stance to take.

FTR, I could give a rats ace what any opposing fan on a UK board thinks of my opinion. You clearly seem concerned so you be you my man.

You obviously don’t understand the rule. If the ball is anywhere above the rim. Anywhere, this goes all the way to the roof. And it is touched, it is goaltending.
No, bud. I think it's you who doesn't understand. I am telling you the ball wasn't above the rim when it was tipped it was outside of the goal touching the outside of the rim. It was tipped back in. We do it all the time on offense and it's completely legal. Ej had two similar putbacks in the game and was not goaled for offense goaltending either, because it's not goaltending.

Thank you.

This was—WITHOUT QUESTION—offensive goaltending on the last play. Not sure refs can call it on replay. Someone can confirm that I’m sure. But the rule was broken and the ball was within the EXTENDED INVISIBLE CYLINDER. Doesn’t matter if it was off the rim. It was still within the extended cylinder.

You're going to have to include Cal with all us embarrassments because he also thought it was goaltending. check his post game comments. And, thankfully, we certainly aren't all like you. :)

Cal's not going to throw the players under the bus at this point. Fact it was it good. We blew it in the end. Technically, as someone pointed out above, EJ mongtgomery had his hand in the basket when somone from LSU shot before the putback.

We shouldn’t have put ourselves in the position to leave it up to the refs to decide who wins the game. It was a home game with an 8 point lead at the half and we played pretty bad the second half. It’s easy to point the finger at the blown call at the end but poor defense and some bad shot selection let LSU back in the game. That’s what lost us the game, IMO. If we played even a decent second half then the game doesn’t come down to a last second shot. Instead, we were outscored by 10 in the second half.

Hopefully they’ll learn from this and bounce back this weekend.

Even if it was in the cylinder , Montgomery had his hand through the rim on the first shot . It evened out .
The rule is in effect if the ball is on the rim or above the cylinder. His hand wasn't in the net or rim with the ball.

You
It was off the rim.
you guys do realize it has nothing to do with being on or off the rim, it can't be anywhere over the rim extended to the ceiling. Pretend like there is a bank drive through tube going up to the ceiling, It has to be clear of that tube before it can be touched. I thought l would kill Karl Ravich for not knowing that. There's no way anybody who saw the overhead shot couldn't tell it was stil within the cylinder extended. If you say otherwise you just don't understand the rule
