Somewhat off topic, but one of the links I clicked on here the other day had a story at the bottom ranking the best football school in each state over the past four full seasons, and Sallee picked Ole Miss. INtro explicitly said that this was not a prediction of the upcoming year.
I get when you don't have talent, it is easier to say stupid things to get clicks. But you'd think at some point nobody would pay attention to him. The school that went 5-7, 6-6, 5-7, 4-8 was apparently better than the school that went 6-7, 9-4, 8-5, 6-7 and also beat them 3-4 times.
I don't listen to his weasly arse and never have, but, its kind of hard to say many positive things about a coach that's only been here 1 partial season and lost 7 out of 8 in one streak in that only season
He just says **** like this to trigger State fans and get them to call into the show. The best thing anyone can do is not take the bait. Everyone with a functioning brain knows that Leach is a good coach. He has a track record to prove it.
I think Leach is the kind of guy who holds a grudge, so I can't wait to see him bring this up to Pawl at some point.

Finebaum is connected, so he's good with conference rumors, coaching searches, etc. But when it comes to anything that has to do with actual football, it's just hot takery. Typical wormy journalist.

Yes it is. Most recently he was 8 games above .500 at WA St overall and an even .500 in conference play in those 8 seasons in the less than powerhouse Pac 12. He had losing seasons in 4 of the 8 seasons he was there. Everyone remembers the 11 win Gardner Minshew season but without it Leach had a losing record overall at WA St. I don't like agreeing w/ the little gnome Finebaum but I don't think Leach is a top 15 head coach either. I want him to have unequaled success here but I have doubts.
He took over the absolute worst program in the country and won an average of 8 games a year starting year 4. This may be the worst take in the history of SPS. Expecting someone to go into Washington State and not have a couple of growing pain years is unrealistic at best.

That was still light years ahead of what most people achieved at WSU. He is 3rd there in all time wins, and the only people with a higher overall winning percentage last coached there in the 40's and 50's. So say he is not a good coach because he didn't win 60% of his games is not looking at the full picture. He may not be a top 15 coach either, but to insinuate that he is not a successful head coach and that all he does is show up on Saturdays and call plays is just laughable. That person should be instantly discredited as a college football analyst. We are a school that still considered Sherril to be one of our best coaches we have ever head (currently at least top 3), yet he only had a .500 record here.
If by connected, you mean people use him to leak info, both good and bad (mostly bad, especially during coaching searches), then yeah, he's connected alright. But he's hardly an investigative journalist. He's the media equivalent of the guy taking orders at mcdonalds. Folks call and tell them what they want him to say and he takes the order and gets it done.
Let's not pretend WSU was the worst program in the country. Yes, the previous coach was terrible his 1st 3 years, but he was 4-8 the year he was fired; and the previous 3 coaches to him were 125-117-1 over 21 years. It's not a great job by any means, but you can win some there. BTW, I don't disagree Leach was the best coach they ever had.

His offense was terrific that season. WSU led the PAC12 in total offense and scoring offense. 12th nationally in offensive FEI. And this is right after losing Minshew and a ton off their best team in program history.
So no, they did not have growing pains. Leach made a bad DC hire after Grinch left for Oklahoma, so they sucked on defense which led to them losing a few shootouts.
Ironically Mullen went 6-7 in his 8th season here, but everyone seems to forget that. Damn, Florida was so stupid for hiring a guy who went 6-7 in year 8 of his prior job.
You could argue that Kansas or maybe Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, etc. are worse programs, but you’re splitting hairs. WSU is without question one of the five or so toughest jobs in P5.
When Leach got there, WSU was not much better than what Kansas is currently.
I don’t think you realize how epic a certain take would hafta be just to make the top 10 worst takes in SPS history
If Finebaum had watched the HBO college equivalent of Hard Knocks, he would have seen how involved Leach is with the program (Washington State) when it was featured. He knew exactly what to address, fix, improve, etc.
And people were going nuts on here hoping he would leave and put an end to all the November courtships with every opening or rumored opening anywhere in the country. Va Tech and Miami were the main 2 that year if I recall that he was rumored to be in the running for

Yeah, and those people were idiots for wanting to fire Mullen. Thanks for making my point for me. They are probably the same idiots who already have already decided in their minds that Leach won’t win here based on last year.
Point being, you can’t take a one year sample size from the type of job that is naturally going to have some down years (Washington State and MSU are those type of jobs) and judge a coach’s ability. Both Mullen and Leach were good coaches, even though they went 6-7 in year 8.
Frankly, Leach’s 2019 season was impressive in context with what they were dealing with defensively. They lost a ton offensively and defensively after 2018, and lost a great DC. Leach made a bad hire to replace him and had to fire the guy midseason. In spite of all that, WSU still put a great offense on the field and made a bowl game.
