was reading Hawks post in another thread saying Baker is getting some attention from NBA scouts . Obviously he has a long way to go but I could see him playing in the league if he continues on this trajectory. I think this year running the point can only help him because it shows he can handle it and can at multiple positions . He also plays with a good pace and has really good size for a guard . He has also improved tremendously on the defensive end . He needs to continue to improve his three point shooting but it has improved a lot already since he’s gotten here .

On the negative side he is not lightning quick or a great athlete but definitely above average fir someone his size .

Pike said NBA scout told him Geo was one of best young guards in B10

Agree with all that was said above. Not close to an NBA player yet but continued upward trajectory points that way and Geo is the easiest kid to root for ever so let’s hope so. On another note I will say that Mathis has a huge upside with his quickness and hops and pro potential also.

Shooting guards are a dime a dozen as seen every season where highly rated guards don't make a NBA squad.Douby was the best guard that I have watched at Rutgers and he had a short tenure in the NBA before excelling overseas.

I go back to the mid-70’s and I agree on Douby - the best guard we’ve had and he lasted 3 years in NBA. Battle, who did not have today’s 3 point range, lasted more like 10 years and I think Eddie, whose game was built on speed, lasted 7. In today’s game neither would last very long without a great increase in range. So Geo should keep working on those 3’s!

Douby made offense look easy. Worked his butt off on defense, but seriously, when RU came down the court, he just made it look so damn easy.

The thing I remember about John Battle was his hang time. I swore he would take a jump shot and then the defender would jump, but the defender would land first. He just hung in the air.

Baker has a shot, and if he keeps the upward projection he is currently on, his shot gets better. A year of running the point will help.

I was at the Cuse game when Douby hung 40 on them at the dome. He just kept on putting the ball through the hoop. Only negative was that we still lost with a bench player making a desperate shot at the last minute. The 40pts was a record for a visitor and may still be up there.

SGs are actually not a dime a dozen in the NBA anymore.

But I absolutely believe Geo can do it. As mentioned in a different context on the Corey threads, it’s more about work ethic than base athleticism in today’s NBA for fringe guys. Geo has that.

cant teach size...if he can handle the ball and pick up his shot, he will have the opportunity
