Bad decision

Uh, a tie game going into the 9th (especially when you are the home team) is not "false hope". I absolutely would have pitched Sims for just the top of the 9th to give us a chance to win it in the bottom. Then, save him for tomorrow if needed if we don't win it then. Seems like an easy decision to me. And don't tell me he could not pitch tomorrow after just one inning tonight.

It's not only an easy decision. It's the only decision. It's common sense.

If Lemonis had it to do all over, I'm sure he would've done the right thing there. Unfortunately he's had to put his team and this fan base through the meat grinder tonight to learn this hard lesson. And I can't believe there are actually people on this message board tonight defending these decisions.

These in game decisions tonight will go down in infamy. We will still be talking about them 20 years from now when we are still chasing our first title.

Should have started Bednar and won the game. Winning now is what matters. He would have been ready for a Tuesday start. Now who are you pitching tomorrow ?? Bednar ?

Rowdy’s at bat was dog ****. Nobody threw strikes. Plenty of blame to go around. We responded after the Notre dame loss. Going to have to do it again.

It was really bad, yes. The guys we count on most give up way too many at bats.

If rowdey had knocked in a run there, even Lemonis couldn't have screwed up at that point.

The problem was the rain. Sims wasn’t pitching multiple innings because a 2 hour delay was 10-15 minutes away. It’s one thing to call in Sims thinking he can give you 2-3 innings. But we knew 1 inning was going to be it. I think we played it right. We just needed Rowdy to get that hit or Smith/Stinnett to not be wild. We got neither. It happens. Just gotta sack up and get them tomorrow.
Yup. All of this^^

It's always comforting to find out what Lemonis should have done from the 15 or 20 Sixpackers who have forgotten more about coaching baseball than he ever knew.

We (likely) lost a game in Omaha. Everybody there beat us to that accomplishment. Let's win one tomorrow.

If I told you we'd face Texas with their best pitcher on the mound 3 times on neutral fields, would you think we should win all 3??

I’m with you here. Rowdy gets a hit, problem solved. Why does no one blame Lemonis for Rowdy for not producing? In my eyes, he let us down the same as the pitchers not doing their job.
Big time players get big time hits, right?
Lemonis trusts his guys to get the job done, and they usually do. Players failed the coach thus far tonight, not coach failing players.

Starting pitching wasn’t our issue tonight. It was a 3-2 game going to the 7th. Our offense went cold for a while and our bullpen had a bad game.

They are not looking at what Texas has left to throw tomorrow either.

I guess we will know before we take the field tomorrow night if starting Bednar would have been the right decision. Vandy is. IQ in the drivers seat coming through the losers bracket by starting Rocker tonight and have Leiter ready to go tomorrow. Texas started Their Ace tonight after using their number 2 guy last night to get them a winner take all match up on our side of the bracket tomorrow night. So both State and NC State chose to hold their aces and they now have to pitch them in an elimination game tomorrow. So with 20/20 hindsight not withstanding, we are where we are. All 4 teams are essentially now in the Losers bracket together.

Well yeah, we all lost.

Even so, there's still a big advantage to winning the first two. Texas and Vanderbilt have both already won 3 games and aren't in the final series yet.

I’m not sure NC State held their ace voluntarily. He might be caught up in the COVID mess. Given that they only had 4 pitchers that dressed out, it would have been pretty damn foolish to not throw him if he was available.

Hatfield is right and it’s not even close.

You don’t bring in sims there without a lead unless it’s elimination time.

Good pitching wins that game. Yes I eould have pitched Sims in the 9th inning also. Bednar would have gone deeper and not gave up those runs and had all those base runners. Then Johnson and then Sims the last inning if I needed him. Hootie did not pitch a good game. Neither did all those relievers. We have 3 pitchers. Bednar, Johnson and Sims. The rest are sketchy at best. Good pitching wins when you score 5 runs
