Bad coaching, forget the refs.

Hawkins and Willis are bringing us nothing, -'s yet Gabriel sits the bench...the guy brings 100% effort and rebounds, but sits so Willis can stand around the perimeter and not go rebound or play any defense. Surprised Coach hasn't put in Brad yet.

They outrebounded us, outhustled us, and shot better. Bad shot selection by the wrong shooters on our part, and too many mistakes when the game was on the line. They are clearly a better team than we are at this point. On a neutral floor they win by 10-12. Lonzo Balls Dad may be right. They could win it all. Coaching had nothing to do with it.

If we don't toughen up and rebound better, UNC will beat us worse than UCLA did.

One championship and three other final fours in 7 years and apparently that's not very good according to some people lol.

What does everyone expect from Cal? He's always been an average coach and everyone knows it. He has 28 NBA draft picks and only 1 title. If it weren't for Anthony Davis, he would have zero. Great recruiter, average coach.
Just rolls the balls out huh? Lol. He has to figure his team out every year since he basically has a new team every year. He usually has them in contention every March. He is excellent at adjusting the Offense and defense to suit his team. He is an excellent X and O coach, if this were the old days where kids stayed 3 or 4 years he would have multiple titles. He does a little more than roll the balls out

Why are people saying "if you could do better"? Last time I checked, we are not being paid seven-figures, either. Some of the things I saw were plain as day. Ask Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Why ask them, do 1 of those teams have 9 titles?

Ummm..considering UK should have 11 or 12 Titles right now. A blown Elite game vs. WVU, a blown final 4 game vs. UConn, a blown Title game vs. UConn, and a blown final 4 vs. Wisconsin..all of which UK was the much more talented team in. Coach Cal is one Anthony Davis short of being 0 for 7 years at UK.

Yeah..buy only when it matters the most..no big deal.

I dont disagree on some of those games - but the reminder to all of us here is kind of lame. We have discussed these games a million times.

Probably not since you joined in the last 2 weeks, but we certainly have.

I have no problem complaining about Cal's coaching this game.

But many of our more emotional fans who revert to "Cal can't coach" after every loss is annual act of here we go again.

Kind of like my friend @sluggercatfan - count how many posts he has regarding the NBA after each loss, never fails.

Also, you will be surprised how many posters who are here complaining today but will be notably absent after we beat UNC...

We didnt play well.

We didnt coach well.

Missed too many easy shots.

Defense was bad.

UCLA was good.

We lack a leader right now, but I still like the team, the coach and our chances.

For those who cannot see the upside, the potential, and Cal's track record of improving talent throughout a season then they deserve the misery they put themselves through. This was never a 40-0 squad but could be very, very good by tourney time.

As of today, I'm sure there are not many teams that want us in their bracket in a few months. including UCLA.

haven't seen the game but understand Mulder didn't play . Was he sick? If not Cal ought to be ashamed of himself for not playing him .. And Jones too. These are the types of games where you learn about these reserves. mulder'sshooting way offsets his defense which isn't all that bad. Sachs needs to be playing as he can shoot and rebounds well .. Doent play any worse defense than Willis or Gabriel.. Gabriel can't guard anyone off the dribble. Look forward to watching the game tonight . Lets see how anal Cal really gets in this early season game.

i guess if Cal doesn't win a title every year then he's a failure. I just don't understand that type of logic.

I know we have an extremely high ceiling. Still..I'm not sure if we can get to where we want and need to be by March. Today was there for the taking..play just decent defense and we win. I am VERY worried about UNC and UL and even now a little worried about Valpo..which we have to play ALL in the next two weeks. With us playing in such a horrible basketball conference, we have to build up our resume when we can..and today we wasted an opportunity to do so vs. outmanned, jet lagged, UCLA team at home. And no matter if it's in early December or in early March..a home loss to another good team is never a good thing for a young team for confidence purposes. Everyone of those guys are probably saying in their heads "If we couldn't beat UCLA, how are we going to beat UNC ?" just like a lot of us fans are. I'm worried about the defense..it was bad today..really bad. I know it will get better, but will it get good enough and in time for the big dance ? And after last season, it worries me. When it comes to Coach Cal..and the "blown" chances at Titles..I don't bring it up to throw it anybody's face..I bring it up..because in my opinion, other UK fans need to stop looking at him like he's Jesus and can do no wrong. Yes, he saved us from the horrible Tubby and Billy Clyde years and I'm very appreciative but 2012 was almost 5 years ago..the honeymoon should be over. ******' Duke and UConn are stealing National Titles from us. Enough is enough.

The fact you are so worried is concerning.

Jesus huh?

5 years between titles is really awful... how old were you between 1958 and 1978? 1978 and 1996? 1998 and 2012?

"Enough is enough" is a bit dramatic.

Cal is not coach K, but there is no one better for UK. Complain and critique all you want but he's the best there is for us and he is not changing.

It's one thing to complain about an early performance, it is another to be so emotionally upset.

Championships are not won on December 3rd and I'm not sure you can name one coach that would be better for UK, despite your continuing argument...

Well..Duke won 5 titles in 24 years. We've won 3 in 20 years. It's not so bad..but what makes it frustrating..is we were the more talented and really better team in all of those games I mentioned..and either the best team in the Country or the best team left in the Tournament. It kinda reminds me of the Atlanta Braves of the 90s. And yes, Jesus..any time someone questions Coach Cal or even comes close to saying he got out coached or is getting out coached, they get bashed by 90% of this board. I would understand if they said he needed to be fired or something of the sort..but a lot of the times, that's not even the case.

I really dont engage in the Duke comparisons, you are comparing 1 HOF coach to us having 4 over the same period.

Most potential NBA talent and best team are totally different.

Single elimination playoff system brings upsets as well.

What was your username prior to this one? You make assumptions as if you have been here much longer than the 2 weeks on your profile.

People complain about Cal after every loss. And it is usually the same complaints - zone defense or preference to OADs...

Lots of useless pouting on the board after the first loss, which is normal. Let it play out.

I never had an account up until a few weeks ago. I saw some things on the football board being said about the football team and even Boom Williams that I had to get in on and defend Boom..so I made an account. I was a long time lurker..for years before that though.

Adolph Rupp won 4 in 42 years, that is 1 every 10 years about. Cal is on pace.

The point is it's entirely possible to criticize without being an idiot.

I don't disagree with you there, but that wasn't your point.

Regardless, I think we all believe that today's loss will make us a better team. In the end, that's all that matters.
