We are in trouble when Cliff goes out Agee is not good especially on defense in fact Reiner was much better than him when he came in.
Agee got beat so easily on defense it’s scary
In the second half towards the end he played RHJ at center on defense

Agree, we need to figure out what to do when Cliff is out - because Agee wasn't that impressive tonight (but it's only 1 game, so the jury is out IMO) and Reiber just isn't a B1G player IMO. We knew we'd miss Myles on defense, especially (so much penetration and too many offensive boards by Lehigh, which would not have occurred with Myles back there) and that was pretty clear tonight. However, one has to be impressed by Cliff, especially on offense, as he's much stronger and has really developed some post moves - and I can't wait until some of those 12-15 footers fall (and I think they will).

I got killed for being mildly pessimistic about Agee when we added him. I'd rather go with Reiber or no true center if tonight is any indication of what we're going to get from him.

Agree, was disappointing. Much smaller than a Shaq Carter who some compared him to. Not really an intense player.

I really don’t know what to make of Reiber. Doucoure and now Agee played over him which is not a vote of confidence. But Pikiell threw him in against Garza early last year and he didn’t embarrass himself. He came in tonight and immediately made a nice post move and ended it with a quick slam. I’d like to see him play more than a minute in a row to see what he is one way or the other with my own eyes. Agee certainly didn’t impress in this small sample.

Gonzalez Agee was disappointing especially defensively. I'd like to see Reiber get more minutes. He has nice wing span and is sneaky athletic / quick. I'll give Gonzalez Agee the benefit of the doubt but i need to see more from him

Dont worry. We dont need him… lol
I think we went after Harrer hard but did not get him and he decided to come back to Penn State. He is the grinder that hits the boards and would have helped us tremendously because our rebounding was bad again like last year . Our big guards have to get rebounds.

I never understood why we chased Pauly Paulicap however you spell his name because I thought he stinks but he was solid in 4 minutes of action as WVUs 11th man going 0-1 with no other stats.

He wasn’t a realistic option. We wouldn’t have given him the minutes he’d get elsewhere (and it’s not like Cliff was a problem for us tonight)
Exactly. There’s no planet where Harrar was going to give up starting at Penn State so that he could spell Cliff at Rutgers. Why are we still acting like that was ever a possibility?

Cliff looked great and didn’t play nearly as many minutes as he should have. I think Pike was trying to give as much run to the reserve centers as he could tonight. Not going to write anyone off after one game but we need more from the guys coming in to relieve Cliff than what we got tonight.

Myles left us and gave up 28-30 minutes a game to come off the bench.

It’s hard to recruit another legit five when people know cliff is the alpha at the five spot

Reiber is going to be the better back up option...question is when

The goal is to have cliff with three fouls (and preferably two)....with 8-12 minutes to go...and finish with him except a quick blow around one of the time outs

Need 12-14 minutes from Reiber

Myles…

1. Wanted to be closer to home
2. Wanted to go to a prestigious engineering program for his Master’s
3. Wanted to play for a national championship contender
4. Would have ceded minutes to Cliff this year (we weren’t going to let the highest ranked commit in program history come off the bench in year two, think about the recruiting impact)

Do you still think Harrar’s situation is at all comparable?

Myles Johnson was also from California and looking for a good engineering grad program close to home.

Harrar is from Pennsylvania and studying Organizational Leadership.

I was very intrigued to see what Agee was all about. First, he's small built. Not tall and not to much of a physical specimen either. I watched closely, and here's the deal: he's not good. He was standing around like a spectator on both ends of the floor and appeared confused like a deer in the headlights. No energy, no urgency, no nothing. Let's face it - big guys get in foul trouble - I hope Cliff can keep it lower than Myles who could at times get sloppy and get himself in foul trouble. But there will be games where Cliff picks up a few early fouls and then we're in deep trouble.

This was our biggest concern, and right now Agee is just a body. He isn’t long, tall, active, or mobile. One game yes, but I agree that Reiber shows more promise. At least he is tall, long and active. Cliff was good, but let’s keep in mind all of his FGS were dunks... that won’t happen in big ten play, he will need to make some of the short jump hooks

Agee was horrible today, no sugarcoat. The season is 1/3X complete. I am not ready to conclude that Agee is bad just yet!
You could see him just getting lost on the defensive end multiple times. Aside from the lob to Harper that was on the money, there wasn’t much on either end of the floor from him that made me excited about him, but as you said, it’s one game.

It is a bad sign when…
1. Dean Reiber takes your minutes
2. When Cliff needs rest with 5 minutes to go Hyatt or Harper is the center

Agree with you. Pike said that Cliff and Agee was their best Center combo by far. Did not see this last night. Actually thought Reiber was much better than Agee defensively. At least we have two bodies that can play when Cliff is out of the game since I expect him to be in foul trouble a lot. It’s only one game, but Agee was one of the bigger disappointments yesterday.

You had to bring up Harrar!!
I forget about him, what a tremendous addition he would have been to this team.

I agree; but he opted to stay at State Penn. still, don’t know how hard Pike went after him anyways. Would have been the perfect fit.

Harrar was not transferring anywhere to be a backup. He’s much better than that. Now, if you could have played him alongside Cliff, that’s a different story. However, using a C and a PF together is not seen that often any longer.

I think Reiber will be a good overall player for us. Very athletic and will be a good development story over this year and next. I expect to see a lot of him next year. This year not sure.

I think he can be used as the backup C against bigger B1G centers (Kofi, etc). He is so slow footed that I don’t think he’ll give you much against quick big man and offensively…although I was happy to see him take it strong to the hoop for his 2 points last night.

Agee looked incredibly soft and lost out there. I don’t even care about the stats, just watching him out there made me scared for this season when Cliff gets in fouls trouble, which I have a feeling will be a lot.
