Need shooters and higher BB IQ players. Long B1G season ahead as we drop like an anvil back to the reality of what we have. It was fun while it lasted against the cupcakes.

You have to give him 3-5 years.

First tough one so far.

But the corey sanders to nba talk, which should never have begun, needs to stop. He has always had a tough time getting his shot off at b10 level. The nba is a step far beyond. Good college player at this point.

Sanders is not even D League material. He has a lot to work on to just get to that level. Hope is starts to take stock of himself and commit to improving. He can, but how badly does he want it?

Right now, he is not good offensively.

Sanders is not even D League material.

Was thinking the same. Doubt he could find a spot on a D League roster at this point. Maybe he could go the Marshall Henderson route and play pro ball in Iraq/Iran or something... but Henderson was a lot better than Sanders, so who knows.

At least Sanders had 10 pts.
Freeman, our double double machine had 4 pts and 2 rebounds.
Johnson had 2 pts, which is 2 more than Thiam.

Not if you were never unrealistic about this team, this season, and the schedule. I got laughed at by a couple of posters last week for saying it would be a minor miracle to get past 15 wins.

Okay but can he make a shot, that is my problem with him. If he is on the court with Doorson that is two guys who don't score.

Bottom line is the NBA for Corey is a pipe dream. I have not seen one iota of improvement on his jump shot. I like the way he's playing on defense and trying to spread the ball to others, but some of his decision making today with driving into the teeth of the bigs was head scratching.

Bottom line, we don't have any dependable shooters right now on the squad. If Mike Williams shoots similarly to the way he shot the ball against Wisconsin, we're right there in it at the end. Today's game was inexcusable. We looked lackluster; we don't have any shooters we can kick it out to, and how many shots inside did we miss? I counted a dozen chippies. CJ needs to just dunk the damn ball and stop trying to be a finesse player all of the time. Freeman is out of control when he tries to drive. Thiam needs to slow it down just a bit, because his outside shot seems a bit rushed in games. When he's practicing, he's deadly, but when he's in a real game he rushes his shot. We need Williams to be more consistent from three point land but also inside the arc. He's too erratic and I think he understands that just by the body language he displayed toward the end of the game when he knocked down a three knowing he had only made 3 of 12 or 13. Nigel was just missing in action. He disappeared for long stretches.

I love the effort, but sometimes our bigs don't understand they need to follow up strong, don't put the ball on the court and go strong and try to dunk. And on defense there were too many times where they didn't help out underneath and PSU had easy layups and dunks. I counted at least six of those.

Sadly, we were not prepared to play today and it showed. I thought it was important to get off to a good start in B1G conference game and we should have come away as a winner. I think what we all saw is that is we don't have a reliable go to guy, we're going to have a long season in conference play.

Effort was good and defense did their part, but there aren't creative, generate your own offense type of players beyond Sanders, so not sure how anyone can gauge his game.

Sat next to Tony Carr's parents, their highly regarded PG recruit from Roman Catholic HS in Philly.....RC churns out players over the years and Carr plays an efficient, disciplined, feet on the ground type of "old man" game....

If you are looking for a prototype of player to match with a Geo Baker, who is closer to Carr as an efficient type of player, you need to find your slower tempo, read the defense, understand where your teammates are.....I learned a lot talking to Carr's father periodically during the game....Ironically, he mentioned whether this was his first visit to RU and they both said yes....they really didn't hear from anyone at RU from the prior staff and that PSU was the only school consistently recruiting their son.

I mention the recruiting aspect of the story, more than trying to micromanage whether Sanders is going to improve at becoming an efficient/half court player, or if he is more talented or a better player in transition, where there isn't much in the way of truly running an offense.

If you want to freewheel and play no defense and run up and down the court like last year, Sanders, Laurent and others would be scoring much more, the team averaging 8 to 10PPG more and there would be no defense played with no concept of basketball.....then Sanders would be out of an NBA tryout camp once someone realizes he hasn't been taught how to function in a half court setting. Right now, we are watching a player develop and learn how to truly be a complete guard, while trying to do so vs better competition.

Sanders will earn his money at the next level on the defensive end and with his athleticism....Pikiell is doing what has to be done, so Sanders is a finished product when he leaves RU, but that doesn't happen without ugly games at times like today.

For those not aware, PSU's incoming class that played today, stayed within 10 of Duke at MSG, buried St. Johns at MSG and has 3 very good kids mixed with some decent pieces.....RU can easily clean up some of the mistakes and win at PSU in a couple of weeks....not all is lost, bad game, not a good shooting team, but the items are fixable.

its a reality check for the fans, I think all of us were guilty in putting greater expectations on the team, even me who was warning against it. I just do not see how this team can get more than 4 Big 10 wins at this point given this was the most likeliest. I know they can play better than they did today but every school coming into the RAC the rest of the year will have more talent than RU

RU just not ready to take that next step and not enough horses. Just needed to play hard, show effort and learn. I thought today they sleptwalked through the first half and then were atrocious effort wise in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Intensity didnt come until a Pike timeout down 18 with 10 minutes left but by then the game was out of reach

Johnson did nothing today also.
Too many players getting minutes and contributing nothing on offense.Hard to win even against a mediocre opponent. The trend in scoring is downward which is the wrong direction against league opponents.

agree....Laurent is basically a non entity and guys like Thiam, Sa, and Eugene are not doing much either. Its scary how limited this team is when the starters are not hitting their shots
