Thanks for the explanation, but I'm not sure you really need to have lived in England to know what wanker means.
Actually in all seriousness wanker is probably more offensive than most Americans (who even know the word) realize. It's right up there with d*ck head, mother effer, etc.

Thank goodness Wisconsin has carried the banner, because none of the rest are worth bragging about at this point. Hoping Frost will change that.

The playoff picture this year would look a lot different if not for an epic beat down courtesy of a Big Ten West team, so there’s that.

On any given day in college football, any team can play out their *** and beat another. That is what I love about college football. But Iowa likely loses 9 out of 10 times that game is played.

The West is 4-0 in bowl games all against power five conference teams.
One member is orange bowl champs and will finish in the top 4 with a 13-1 record.
Two others should finish in the top 20, 25 for sure.

If Nebraska can get back to where it needs to be, ths can be a heavy division.
Im not saying the west is great or better than the east, but all this "west sucks" talk needs to stop as it isnt true. It just happens to be the weaker division in the strongest conference. Much butter than some others.

I’m not holding my breathe But I wonder if Iowa has an outside shot at being ranked. 8-5 has gotten teams ranked before and they played a top 10 schedule. Played 9 bowl teams and 8 bowl winners. An inch from 9 wins, and false start from 10 wins, and a fluke fumble from the 5 yard line from possibly 11 wins. The last two still had work to do after said plays.

Iowa should be ranked.

At the end of the day this is where BIG 10 teams will end up in the final AP rankings:
Wisconsin #3- thanks to the strength of the BIG in Bowl Season- They finish 13-1 and two of the top 4 playoff teams fall to 4-6 DEPENDING on their game scores

OSU ends up 4-5 again depending on how well the losing teams look in the final 4 games. HArd for the voters to look past the beat down to Iowa- but OSU dominated their Bowl game against USC and benefits from the Big Bowl season beatdowns

PSU only rises 1 spot from 9 to 8 UNLESS Auburn isnt impressive against CFU. In spite of their impressive win over Washington- there just isnt any room for them to jump any higher.

MSU rises from 18- to 16
Northwestern rises from 20-18

So Big ends up with 3 teams in top 8 and 5 in the top 18
AND with a competitive but middling Iowa program
A rising Minnesota- with gimmicky but successful PJ Fleck
Northwestern with finally AWESOME facilities
A Purdue program with very good coaching
A recruiting machine in VERY talent rich area- Maryland
A Rutgers program with better coaching and signs of life
A sleeping giant - a unified Nebraska finally with a great fit at coach an identity

This conference is on the move- Never thought I would EVER be saying that about the Big back in the 90s or even early 2000s

Good offensive line play AND a LEGITIMATE run game can do wonders for the passing game. But yes he played really well- receivers created seperation and only dropped one ball

What game are you watching? Maybe you should not watch through the bottom of the glass, it distorts things. Wisconsin has thrown on 1st down consistently and mixing it up well. I guess going away from their strength would be exactly the right thing to do in your eyes. sheesh

He's probably a big Callahan/Riley fan. Dime a dozen.....

  1. Wisconsin - Top 10 program the past 8 seasons and #2 in B1G heading into 2018.
  2. Northwestern - They have never really competed for the Division, but have made a statement for #2.
  3. Iowa or Purdue - head to head favors Boilers in 2017, but Iowa did have nice resume against #5 SOS in nation.
  4. Purdue - hell of a first season under Jeff Brohm and nice win in bowl game. The offense should be solid in 2018, but retooling needed of defense, due to departures.
  5. Minnesota - P.J. Fleck needs to find a QB and build a team for 2018, but nearly bowled which was par.
  6. Nebraska - Scott Frost has a lot of rebuild here. B1Gger rehab project than UCF.
  7. Illinois - Lovie Year 3 in 2018.
4-0 in bowls is very nice. Go B1G West!

He played a solid game and helped lead his team to 13-1. Nice.

Didn’t you just illustrate why the West is weak? The only B1G teams you listed who played ranked opponents were from the East.

Wisconsin beat Miami, Indiana, and Michigan. NW beat MSU, Maryland, and an SEC team. Iowa beat OSU, an inch from beating PSU, and beat a hot ACC team. I don’t think the West is that far behind.
I get your point - but the overall body of work compared to the East does not match up at this time. Purdue could be using the same logic on their board when they caught an Iowa team overlooking them.

The good news is I think the West is inching closer. Iowa’s past 3 years of recruiting is improved, Nebraska has Frost coming in which should at least get us competitive again, Minn should improve with Fleck, and Northwestern is always a possibility.

The B1G West isn't #1.

But, 4-0 no less in Bowls.

The Big Ten has improved since 2012 and the arrival of Urban Meyer. It is a better conference, since Urban lit a fire into it.

2018 should be interesting.

I do think the west is only going to get better. Lots of opportunities next year to prove it. We need to follow through and win the conference title game. It’s been so close the past three years.

Technically Nebraska. We all believe it will change going forward but the facts are we have been in a huge decline in the recent past.

I would agree with your assessment. For me it makes it difficult to see where Nebraska fits in all of this come the next couple of years. Other teams are on the way up and we have been on the way down. Time will tell.

  • Matt Campbell had a breakout season at ISU in his 2nd season
  • How 'bout Purdue in Jeff Brohm's first season
  • Defense and QB play are two important factors
  • Stopping and/or running the ball
  • Clearly, these two programs winning 8 games says how important fit plays with a coaching staff
