What happened to the B1G East division in Week 1?

#14 Michigan lost to #12 ND and their D was supposed to be a Top 5 D this year.
#11 Michigan State was losing to Utah St with under 3 minutes left in the game.
#10 Penn State was down with under a minute left and won in OT.
#5 OSU dominated.
Coach-less Maryland beat #23 Tejas.

Not looking anywhere near as strong as the preseason hype machine was predicting, but it was only Week 1 and everyone has to get back into the groove of things.

Wish we had a game to know whether we were going to be a decent team this year, but I guess that we have to wait. Maybe our "gauntlet" of a crossover division schedule isn't quite as tough as we thought?

After seeing some other conference games/scores, does anyone else feel a little better about our schedule this year and think we might have a better chance to win against UM and MSU?

The only one I think is really overrated is Michigan. I’ve never thought that Harbaugh was that great of a coach. I think his resume was built at Stanford during which he was able to build a successful program partly due to the fact that he avoided the pinnacle of the successes of both USC and Oregon. The Pac 12 is just meh, in my opinion. Washington really had no business in the Playoff last year, and while they put together a good showing against Auburn yesterday, they are still clearly not there yet.

OSU is still OSU.

Penn State maybe. I sort of give them a pass. They played a very good App State team that is used to going into P5 stadiums and competing at a high level. It’s not the first time it’s happened with App State and it certainly won’t be the last. They are well coached, and I think Franklin knows that. I think PSU learns from this and plays they way they are expected to play from here on out. The big question for them is the absence of Barkley. Are they really that much worse without him? I tend to think they will be good, but not as good as last season, so maybe a little overhyped.

MSU is MSU. They always seem to get off to a slow start and then Dantonio gets them dialed in for a good season. I think they end up being what we think they are. Good enough to complete with the best in the division and look at a 9-10 win season, but not good enough to win the East.

When I first was hearing some scores, I was a little disappointed in some of our B1G brethren. Again, only the first game, so its hard to take some scores that seriously, but...

Illinois was expected, but sheesh, they just aren't good at all under Lovie Smith.

Rutgers definitely surprised me. Good looking win by them for sure, as far as the score goes.

I can't believe Iowa beat Northern Illinois that bad o_O NIU must have lost all of that incredible talent from last year...

Wisconsin is... well, they didn't look great like some pundits said they would. Hornibrook's bowl game vs Miami must have been a lot of luck because he looked good in one game.

I expected Maryland to get beat bad due to the current issues within their athletic program, but they looked good... or Texas is taking the long way around in their program turnaround! Laughing

I just laugh at Michigan's supposed great defense. I hope we carve them up! Maybe Frost will have a better plan of attack/better team vs his 2nd game at UCF.

Still, I wish we could have at least seen our team play a little bit last night so we had some sort of idea of how good we are and could compare vs the rest of the B1G. So far, I am leaning towards a little better season after seeing our competition for 2018.
