I think Temple had some key factors going for it (location/ market, more investment in athletics/ facilities) but has a bunch of key factors going against it as well (historically weak FB attendance, facilities, lack of control over FB stadium, limited sports teams- no men's track/field, no baseball, no wrestling, etc., conflicted relationship with both city and Eagles). TU has potential but until those latter factors get addressed sufficiently, they're going to limit you substantially.

Temple's limited sports teams may actually be a benefit. Less travel costs for other conference members.

I pre apologize if it comes across as an insult but if the b12 is left with absorbing temple or NIU or Uconn or Memphis, it tells you just how far that cluster has fallen...

The very thought that ou or Texas would somehow be excited to play a conference game in Philly or Memphis or Storrs is plain nuts...they would not...

LOL. FWIW, OU was recruiting in SE PA this past recruiting season. Big deal you say? Maybe to you. Not so much if programs can now come East, recruit prospects and tell them they'll play before friends and family for 2 years of their eligibility........but keep on thinking we're still a flunky program on North Broad. You'll be in for a surprise come 2020 like your conference mate a few hours west of you was last season.

The Big XII is bizarre. In the past expansions we've seen, the teams have been all lined up and ready to jump into their new conference. The dog and pony show the Big XII is holding is ridiculous. Schools are being interviewed as if they were job applicants, presenting their cover letters and resumes, and the Big XII administration is behaving like a bunch of boobs putting on a new version of "The Apprentice". If they didn't have any idea who they wanted before they announced expansion, they should have shut up until they did. It's become tiresome to watch, anymore, and I can't help but think the Big XII will implode sooner or later, anyway.

Disagree; I know FB drives the bus and bball cleans up after FB, but is Temple going to add enough $$$ to the BigXII to make up for not being able to offer a full compliment of sports for the other schools to play? I think one of the biggest issues holding Temple back is money; based on the little bit I've gleaned, they may make us look rich. $125 mil budget for a stadium in one of the biggest cities in the country? That's like me trying to build a 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom house in Franklin Lakes for $200k.

...a lot can happen in 4 years, especially since maybe 20 kids total on both our rosters will play in said 2020 game.

15 minutes of frame as far as football is dead. All of that is true, if it wasn't they wouldn't have been stuck in Group of 5 hell.

They have always sucked at most sports, which play on a lower D1 level anyway. In expectation is wrestling which is part of the Pac-12. Why is this so hard to understand?

Because none of the reasons you presented actually supports the hypothesis "15 minutes of frame is up". Some of it would be reasons why their football team went downhill, which hasn't actually happened yet, and the rest would be reasons it's not getting a P5 invite. Neither is dependent upon or the cause of their 15 minutes of frame being up.

In other words, you made a convoluted argument instead of the right one: they're not getting in for the same reason we did get in, they don't bring any money. They may very well still be "famous" and good at football but have too much downside.

You are right, they add nothing. But i just don't hear the hype that they used to get anymore, perhaps a better saying would have been that thwir honeymoon is over. They are no longer the media darlings that they used to be. But you are correct, that might be the least of their problems.

I'm now thinking one, if not both (UCF/S Fla) of the Florida teams are going to get the invitations.

We are seeing a drastic change in the way people watch TV, i.e. cord cutters.

If anyone thinks the B12 makes it long term (10+ years), you are delusional. Texas and Oklahoma won't stick around and stay in the Big East Redo. The Big East Redo will NOT command the same dollars as the Power 4 and Texas and Oklahoma will jump ship as a result.

THE ONLY REASON THE B12 ISN'T BREAKING APART NOW IS THE LONG HORN NETWORK.

The moment that ends, the B12 falls there after, IMO.

If ESPN doesn't renew the LHN, then that will be the beginning of the end.

If ESPN doesn't renew the LHN, then that will be the beginning of the end.

Another possibility is when the current Big 12 contract (ESPN/FOX) is set to expire (2022?) ESPN
and Texas could negotiate an early end to the LHN contract with a Lump Sum buyout.

Could be a win/win situation for both parties.

Texas can negotiate to get in a new conference (with a bag of money) and ESPN can cut their loses with the LHN and also move on.

Have to wait to see how this works out.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

At that point, Texas start talks with the Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC.

The SEC may not want them due to Texas- A&M

...I wonder if things would have been different had the BigXII offered Pitt first (IIRC the BigXII was kicking Pitt's tires and starting things up behind the scenes, but dragging their feet a bit with the official invite, which then prompted the ACC to act quickly) and ended up taking Pitt and WVU in 2011. Was Pitt even expecting an ACC offer?

Actually, Pitt was one of the first teams that the Big 12 was considering (I don't think there was an official invite).

Big East Conference was still in tack and the vast majority of opinion (at Pitt) was not to pursue the possibility of an offer. Pittsburgh was not really a good fit (Geography, Culture, Academics/Research etc).

Pitt would have been (WVU now) on their own island with respect to the rest of the conference.

At this time, I don't know if Pitt was approached by the ACC because of the above fact in addition to the contribution Pitt could make to an ACCN becoming a reality.

What I do know is that the 12 member ACC Conference (Swofford) was in talks with ESPN about the feasibility of starting an ACCN. I believe ESPN told Swofford that it was not possible without expansion. I believe ESPN (marketing/research) recommended Pitt and Syracuse as the expansion candidates. I am not sure if discussions with Notre Dame was also being held at this time. I believe this scenario has been documented in past articles.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

They play Army tonight, but that won't tell us much unless they somehow lose.

They'll be good this year. They're also being helped by one of the easiest schedules in the country this year. The key test for them is over the next 5 or so years. Will they sustain? Will attendance consistently improve? Will funding/ fundraising improve? What will become of their stadium situation?

Temple and Memphis are out:

from: http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...s-tigers-potential-big-12-expansion-candidate

Those 11 schools are Air Force, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Colorado State, Houston, Rice, South Florida, SMU and Tulane. The list does not include Temple, which had been previously reported by ESPN as still being in the mix.

Next week in Dallas, representatives from each of those 11 schools will make in-person presentations to Big 12 officials, sources said. The league has said it hopes to make a decision on expansion by the Big 12's regularly scheduled board of directors meeting on Oct. 17.

ESPN's initial report indicated it could not confirm whether Memphis had made the cut. Multiple sources in the past two days verified that the Big 12's expansion candidates had been reduced to 11 schools -- and Memphis was not among them.

Another interesting note from the ESPN article: The Big 12 still must decide whether to expand its 10-team league to 12 or 14 schools or to remain at 10. Sources said that while 14 schools is the "least likely" option, all scenarios are still "in play."

Texas Pod:
Texas
TX tech
TCU
Baylor

Okl / KS pod:
Okl
Okl St
KS
KS St

Eastern Pod:
UCF or USF
West va
Cincy

Usually I don't like the pod ideas, but this once actually kind of works. I would make it Colorado State and call it the Mountain pod instead of the newbie pod. (yes ISU is not in the mountains, but there not a newbie either) 3 games every year against your pod-mates, 4 games against the pod assigned to play your pod for that year, and you are left with 1 or 2 conference games left for a locked rival (Texas v. Ok would obviously be one, but not sure about who else has cross-pod rivalries that need to be preserved) or to just have for another conference game each year. Only problem is that the division requirement is still in effect, so the 4 pods would have to break into divisions and then switch every 2 years under the current rule. (I think)

Like the Pod concept and could see it happening closer to home? ;-)

RU
Maryland
PSU and
NC?
UVA?
UConn? (Sorry but I enjoyed the budding rivalry @ the time). Easy road trip too.

UCONN belongs in a real conference. Never understood why some of you guys have such a deep rooted hate. If college sports worked the way they 'should' work (which means this would never happen) UCONN would join the acc and Virginia tech would move to the big 12 to be WVU's 'travel partner'.
Disagree. UCONN should be in a Women's BB conference. The rest of the school is a ********.
