That will help the platoon of smaller slot guys do what they do...

If we get him, that kid from Biloxi who is the same body type receiver, and keep Morrow around, Prescott is going to be able to lob the ball into the air without looking and have 30 TD's.

for Dak's sake, it stretches the field and will allow him some more room to use his feet from time to time.

For the pessimists who insist Mullen has not and cannot attract a phenom QB, this is how you make it happen. Ground work.

He concentrated on defense so we could have a good record first, used the good record to attract more athletes (Quay), and sustained success and media attention is now making offensive playmakers swim to the boat. Once the foundation has been laid for a true freshman freak of a QB to come in, it will happen.

The roster is finally balanced and at a quality level where we can move out of the comfort zone when recruiting.

I say all this because Mullen has been getting a lot of **** for not recruiting big body receivers.

He has been grabbing SEC attention, I believe he will greatly benefit our system. Finally have a couple guys to stretch the field - with great hands.

Wilder was a pure speed guy who couldnt cach. Hammond has better hands but not the sprinter speed of Wilder. Just to be the devils advocate the knock on him I have gathered from Auburn/Bama people is that he isnt ultra explosive and will probably develop into a TE. The way we are trying to start using the H Back/hybrid TE position with Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Hill, regardless if he puts on weight and gets to 230ish this could still be a dangerous matchup for opposing teams down the road

*Jimmy Graham swag* on the real though, we should garner some NFL respect if we graduate a Jimmy Graham-type receiver every year.

We really need these tall receivers because I don't really see many other ways to score against upper level SEC defenses. The speed at Alabama, LSU, SC, etc is just to good for slot receivers to run around and get open, especially in the red zone. Look no further than our game against SCar last year to see that when you get inside the 10 yard line against quality SEC defenses, you can't just run it in or get a receiver open. Sometimes you just have to throw it up to someone. SCar had Jeffrey and we had no one. Good pick up!

State Gets WR Commitment.........
Gadsden City High School has seen several of their alumni go on to play college football. A few have signed on with SEC programs. Earlier today, wide receiver B.J. Hammond verbally committed to Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs of Mississippi State marking the third wide receiver commitment towards the 2013 signing class.

B.J. Hammond had been learning Mississippi State's way for a few weeks and he informed FOXSportsNext of his intentions to commit to Mississippi State yesterday.
Hammond followed through with those plans and made his decision official earlier today.
Hammond chose the Bulldogs over offers from Arkansas State, Auburn, LSU, Memphis, Ole Miss, Purdue and UAB.
We will have much more with B.J. later in the day.

Re: Solid get for them...
I think he was further down our list as we already have the big WR we are going for (Dannon Cavil), but we obviously offered him so we must think he is a talented kid. He is definitely the highest rated guy they have gotten so far.

That offer list is not accurate
zero chance he had an offer from Auburn or LSU. We gave him a foot in the door non-commitable offer.

I read on one of the recruiting sites (i think it was scout) that one of the higher up recruiting people (not steve or gene) said that Hammond would be moved up the rankings quite a bit because of his performance at the camps lately. I remember reading a few weeks ago that he really stood out at one particular camp. I am beginning to think that Mullen and co. are pretty good at spotting players early.

ESPN, who always low-balls people who don't go to Alabama, Penn State, or Notre Dame, have him as a 4 star. Take that with a grain of salt. I don't care if we're his only offer (we're not), he has the physical tools to be effective in our system. Ole Miss fans should know better than to dismiss a player we offer with no one else recruiting them, they got killed by Banks and Relf the last couple of years.

impossible for 99% percent of those goobers to give MSU any credit in any way. They are always just one recruit a way from passing us by, they really don't<div>get the whole picture and realize how far behind they are right now. We are poised to be in a position with MSU football this year that we have rarely seen before.</div><div>I am really excited about our future and I find the Ole Miss view of things highly entertaining, Keep the laughs coming fellas.</div>
