Awful Homecoming Attendance

The stadium really looked empty and I don't believe the official 38K number. Yea, noon kick off sucks. But worst Homecoming in a long time. I looked at some prior old family Homecoming photos. And the stadium has been pretty full by Q2. What do the other B1Gs do about the tens of thousands who show up for tail gating but never go into the game?

You are about 6 days late with this complaint.

When you put an exciting, entertaining, winning product on the field that has a chance every time out, the stadium will be full. I know long-time, loyal Rutgers fans who tell me the games are tough to watch, even sitting in the comfort of their home. Their is no star power and the offense is sleep-inducing. Every one is pulling for Rutgers, but it is a tough watch, at the moment.

Considering the noon start, our team and The Hunt, the crowd wasn't bad at all.

Poor product on the field or not, it was a beautiful day and the onus is on those who chose not to return to their alma mater and support their team.

When you sell your soul(rightly) for the TV dollar and have noon starts for Homecoming, just can not get worked up over attendance numbers.

When we win people will attend.

Agree and think this post nails it 100 %.

A perennial losing CFB program is not going to gain season ticket holders and attendance over time. People don’t want to be associated with a losing program forever, even if it’s their alma mater doing the losing.

If RU had a winning B1G FB program and had buzz associated w the team there would be many fans and graduates wanting to get on board and promote RU.

Teams that lose 78-0 to conference rivals probably lose fans at a faster rate than other losing programs.

Winning needs to happen before we can fill the stadium. No other path to selling more tickets IMO. No effective marketing program can undo results on the field.

Yea but those of us who were there, "WERE LOUD". Kudos to all those who attended.
Agreed but not crazy loud like Louisville in 2006 and 2012, USF in 2007, Penn St and Michigan in 2014. For those games, all night games, we were a big time fanvase and the level of play elevated as well.

Some day we will make noise on every down all game long like the big boys do.

Psst. RU is on a 2 game B1G win streak. You have to be there to be part of it.

The Hunt has Zero impact on CFB fans attending RU football home games.
It’s all about putting a competitive product on the field and people willing to spend their money for the high priced tickets.

Win games, with a lousy O and great D - like many years under Greg - and the fans will be there.

A great Tailgate, maybe best of the year, followed by a great, exciting game.

Glass half full. Hell, glass over flowing.

The onus is on Rutgers is to put a good, enertaiing product on the field.

Yeah. Not loud like the top five all time meaningful games in the history of the stadium.

I apologize for putting on such a poor performance as a fan in a game between two teams playing for 12th place in a conference called the Big Ten.

Nothing like the old days. They used to have a lot of freebies for the kids. Even last year they gave away hats to the alums. You couldn't even tell it was homecoming except for the alumni band.

I used to collect the homecoming buttons. Loved it. To this day I still use the draw string bag from '08. Penny wise and pound foolish to develop good will and then to just stop. Even last year I liked the 1766 hat.

Reward fans there and go forward.

We do lose some fans to The Hunt.

That is simply not true. ZERO is not true. It may be 2%.. but its not zero. I know season ticket holders that weight their options when the Hunt coincides with a home game. And MANY people weigh their options when the offense looks bad. I know season ticket holders that choose selling their tickets vs attending. I have left some games so frustrated and stressed that I thought it might be better for my health to have not attended.

Attendance is not necessarily about bad fans... its about making Rutgers football games an event more people want to attend.

Rutgers won under Greg with an offense! Rutgers didn't have an offense until the year of the Insight Bowl. If you recall....that year we had an explosive offense with at best a so so defense. The Teel years--after he finally let Teel throw the ball after about half a season--were offensively potent years. Without an offense here we won't go anywhere with Ash. Winning ugly can happen against a few bottom teams like Illinois,... but winning without an offense is impossible against the majority of the Big 10. Ash is taking the program nowhere here.

The guy I listen to and whose son opinion I respect is Rick Nieuheisel. Mack Brown is also usually spot on. They say repeatedly that to be successful in college football this day and age, you need a dynamic dual threat qb who can create something out of nothing. we are still looking for that guy. Case in point, ND. last year terrible......this year with Wimbush....possible playoff team.

And he played very little his freshman year and did not play his sophomore year as 3rd string qb. Yet some here are throwing our RS freshman qb under the bus.

Ok....2% of about 20,000 season ticket holders means 400 people choose the Hunt over RU Homecoming.
400 people WOW.
We should have had ten times more than that buying Walk Up tickets for the Game.
Beautiful weather and coming off our first B1G Win in 2 years.

Most B1G teams have noon starts for homecoming. That’s why those gamerime are announced at the beginning of the season

I would also venture to say RU has the highest game
Most B1G teams have noon starts for homecoming. That’s why those gamerime are announced at the beginning of the season

Don't disagree but in fairness do believe that RU has the highest percentage of fans who drive in on the day of game and the least percentage of fans who walk to the game. The winnebagos of PSU, Michigan, OSU and the hordes at Nebraska, many there the night before.

yes.... the drop in season ticket sales indicates fading interest in the program in total, and some of this is reflected in dwindling homecoming crowds.

it is not rocket science here
