I heard a few weeks back they were searching for a new coach and were really going to go after a fellow conference team's coach.

You would think the right man could build a program there they have a nice facility some small schools have an issue of financial support I don't believe with their tax base and some of the businesses there that's an issue there. I don't know what the issue has been there having the players and just not a good coach or not getting the right players out plus maybe not getting the community support or sold on having a good football program. As a head coach you have to be able to wear different hats be in the community building support work with the little league in Middle schools building a feeder program then once you get the boys out the actual coaching and having the right assistant coaches around you.
It's like Pittman of Mitchell said being laughed at when he mentioned taking Mitchell to the state championship one day.

A triple option offense would do well at Avery I think.

10-15 years ago they had the kids to throw it around. Wasn't it the Villanueva kid that was so good at QB? Can't remember his name for sure.
Yeah Alex Villanueva. He was a baller. Was getting alot of looks and hype, but Mitchell ended all that in the 3rd round in 2010.

A lot kids leave to other schools to. When my son played his 6th grade up there nobody came close to beating them. They thumped the Mitchell teams which would be a lot the kids playing at Mitchell now. My son just graduated last year and started 5 out 10 games at Left Tackle at the college he is at.

Avery has hit rock bottom. If any standouts come thru, they transfer to Cloudland, Watauga, and a couple have ended up at Mitchell. I had high hope for the new coach, but danged if he didn't decide to run the spread. And is dying on that hill. Avery would do much better running a T, triple, or flexbone, with a 4-3 or 4-4 defense. A 3 man front is useless if you don't have a dominate nose, which they haven't.

At Mtn Heritage before Joey Yancey county middle schools especially Cane River would consistently beat just about everyone then high school it would switch. He figured out how to keep playing in high school. He changed the mind set at Mtn Heritage that's what it'll take at Avery sometimes it just takes the right person.

The HC leaving was one heck of a college coach and won a lot of games back when Lees-McRae had a team. He was a pound and ground coach back then that loved to run the football.

Would love to see Avery turn it around. You see success all around the area in football but we just can get it together. Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey all change their program with the right coach. I have been here a long time. Played on the first team to win a conference game in the WHC and the first team to beat Watauga. On the coaching staff when you had to try not to score on Mountain Heritage, son played when Mitchell was not very good but Mitchell started turning his senior year (Pitman came). My other son played and other teams had to try not to score on them. Has really changed over the years but as you all have mentioned before it just take the right coach. Just like Joey Robinson, Travis Pittman, Zach Benfield, Ryan Habich and Mike Lunsford. Hope we can have the next one. I don't have any boys left to come through the program but would really like for it to be successful. We can compete in basketball most years and have a fantastic wrestling program so why not football.

No intelligent human would do that. Robinson is intelligent
He has interviewed for the job. I think he would be crazy to do it but with the money Avery is offering who knows what will happen. Maybe he is trying to force Heritage to up his pay or put more money into the program.

Go watch king of the hill rusty
He did interview for the job. I’m not an Avery fan but know people in the program. They have also talked with the Lunsford’s from Hampton. Supposedly, Paul Johnson is offering to put in a lot of money for Robinson or the Lunsford’s. I was told Joey is their first choice and then the Lunsford’s. I think they will both turn Avery down and the job will be given to coach Farmer that is already on staff. Avery has great facilities but would be a very hard place to turn around right now. I think Avery wants to win but I don’t know if the parents will allow there kids to be coached and pushed the way it would take to turn the program around. I just wanted other peoples thoughts.

Aaron Rodgers is interviewing tomorrow.

Also word is that Matt Rhule has interest. Rumor floating around that he was spotted at Puerto Nuevo having lunch today. Of course the rumor source might have confused him for another middle age man that looks like he hasn't slept in 5 days and has lost his razor.

Golf in the morning. Practice in the afternoon. The triple would do well at Avery.
I really don’t think parents could handle him coaching at Avery. He’s got what they call “Very Colorful” language. He has enough money to not care about parents and boosters have to say and that would drive them crazy.
And like I said, I don’t think Avery will get Robinson or the Lunsford’s but that is what they are aiming for.

Avery has been open for some time now. What is the hold up or are they about to announce in the near future?

It has become this way, didn't used to be. Avery County has the talent (boys basketball and wrestling) but daddy ball has infected that place like no where else. Like I said before, they are rock bottom. It will take a complete community change of mindset to right the ship. Paying big $$$ for a coach isn't gonna cut it.
