Any chance he could end up as the OLB in the 3-4 D being a pass rush specialist? I have a funny feeling he could tear it up as a OLB. Of course he will probably play TE with the height mismatch.

Don't see him as a Ted Hendricks but if the other TEs suddenly become top flight why not give it a look on his scout team year if he redshirts.

Realizing he'll be a year behind, but I'd be interested to hear Cornicator's "yes" or "no" opinion on the same question as it applies to Cam Jurgens. I don't know much, but when I look at CJ I think "defensive beast". Both recruited as TE's, but two totally different body types. If he has the motor I think he might be a pass rushing nightmare.

Not corn, but I would LOVE to see Jurgens on defense. Would be a monster.

De or OLB - two totally different positions and things are a changing with coach D. The entire mindset of what a De did/does will naturally change.

I just read a story about his knee injury and his coach (I think) made a comment about him being 6'8 or 6'9... IMHO that's pretty tall to be a OLB and trying to tackle...

But I haven't watched any video on him, so maybe he could, but that just seems pretty tall for that position.

In the past, players have been up to 6'5 though, but 6'9ish... damn thats tall!

I honestly think Jurgens is destined to become an Inside LB at Nebraska.

Austin Allen is explosive and has fantastic hands. He has large hands (no homo). He will be a matchup nightmare on the offensive end, both in the red zone and on 3rd and long situations because of his size and wing span. You can't cover a 6'9 kid with a 6'0 safety or even a 6'4 linebacker. That's especially compounded if you have accurate QB's he can throw a ball up where only he can get his giant hands on the football.

As for OLB in the 3-4, Nebraska will be able to use guys who have played a lot of football as a stand up pass rushers from the LB position like Colin Miller, Marcus Newby, Quayshon Alexander, Tyrinn Ferguson, Mo Barry, and Avery Roberts.

Guys like Freedom, Daishon Neal, Stoltenburg, Deontre Thomas, and the Davis Twins will be 3-4 DE's. I think Carlos will be able to play some Nose as well. Watts and hopefully (because I think he commits) Daniels, will play at the NOSE going forward.

Austin Allen is not only tall, he's a terrific leaper. When you add that type of weapon to the Track team they're already bringing in, it could really cause nightmares for opposing defenses.

FWIW, I believe the ILB's going forward will be Weber, Dedrick Young (where he should've been playing all along), Pernell Jefferson, Greg Simmons, and Willie Hampton

I agree with basically where you have everyone, although it seems like Roberts and Hampton could flip with Roberts inside and Hampton outside. Have you heard anything about the potential grad transfer NT (Foly)? That would be huge to plug in a legit NT and give Danniels and Watt time to develop.

Ever hear of Ed "Too Tall" Jones or Ted Hendricks?

Nope!!

So I googled them... Too Tall Jones was 6'9" and 271lbs

In college he became a two-time All-American defensive lineman, playing on a team that only lost 2 games, en route to winning the black college football national championship in 1971 and 1973.

Jones ranks third in school history in sacks in a season (12) and fifth in career sacks (38). In 1999 he was voted to the 50th Anniversary Senior Bowl All-Time Team.

I am picturing a man 6'9 playing linebacker running after a 5'9 running back coming out of the backfield and trying to cover him... or trying to tackle him in the open field... if he could catch him, would he get called for targeting nonstop because he can't get lower? :)

Back to Austin Allen... if he is good enough to play D1, then he must be good, so maybe he could do it.

I had a 6'7 240lb kid at my high school that played DE (very uncoordinated but great hands) and a 6'8 215lb kid that played receiver (not good).

OMG lol I am watching his hudl film and he is so tall that you can't throw over him or around him! lol... literally laughed out loud a couple times when watching the opposing QB try to throw over him.

Some good interceptions. Not great speed when trying to outrun some other kids, but I am impressed with his defensive skills, so I rescind my question about his height being an issue.

IMO, on film he looks slow! But most people that tall do look slow when running but can be fast. It doesn't look like he has the speed, but he might. His D looks better to me and I could see him playing DE in a 4-3.

I think he may have some explosion and what a reach to get the QB at 6'9', he has decent speed to cover TEs.
