He has the team to win the SEC this season. Skilled, experienced, tough minded, and they don’t need space to shoot three’s. And they hit a large number of them. Defensively, I agree with the poster that compared them to Ricky’s UL teams. Aggressive, trapping, attacking style that fouls so much that you CANT call them all.

Having said what I did above, I DO think Ky is the one SEC team built to beat them. Reason is our length and our offense inside the paint. I think we may end up leading the nation in 3pt defense once it’s all said an done. Last 3 games have shown that ability very well with our length outside.

You beat Auburn by forcing them to make, and MISS, their normal above average allotment of three’s, as well as outrebounding them and scoring on their interior D. It’ll be awhile before we play them but I love our chances at Rupp and in the SECT. Still, we won’t be able to catch them record wise to win the SEC regular season.

Pearl is the one of the top ten floor coaches in basketball. He’s a crazy good strategist.

Now the problem is he’s a loose cannon. But, weren’t we saying this about Cal before he came here?

I know Bruce had the situation at Tennessee. However, what he did wrong there was basically nothing compared to UNC, and they got nothing done to them.

Uh, nope....What shade of blue are you? Not even bias could state that with a straight face...
Haven't missed a game since Rupp's last two seasons, I'm that shade of blue. One that is not blinded by the BS. If BP had the talent that Cal has had during his tenure there would be 3 more banners hanging at Rupp.

Look man, I’m a Cal blowhard to some degree. Here’s the thing, I totally agree with you about Pearl.
If he were the coach here for the last 8 years, and had the exact same players as Cal has had, he would have at least two titles, and more likely, 3. But, here’s the flip side. If Pearl were the Coach here for the last eight years, he would not have been able to recruit the talent that Cal did.

It actually makes me sicker to my stomach today, then it did when it happened. I’m talking about the loss in 2015 to the Badgers. Jesus Christ, if we just would have finished that off at 40-0 with our 9th title, I would of died a happy man if we never won another game. Crazy how devastating that game has impacted most UK fans, and Cal.

Wow its amazing the disrespect Cal is getting as a coach. Pearls best season, period. is a final 8...
Cals an unbelievable recruiter. Nobody in their right mind thinks he’s a great coach.
As far as x&o’s:, Cal is ok. Don’t get me wrong, there’s not a better fit for this job than he is.
But let’s face it, we don’t block out, we don’t defend inbounds passes, we don’t set good screens, we rarely pick and roll, we have big guys playing a lot of the time 20 feet from the basket.

I think Cal needs better assistants, I really do.

All this being said, I hope Cal retires here.

I am surprised he is still there as well, but he will hang on as long as he can.If he gets canned from this job he is probably done at this level for a while. He can coach and does know basketball but he just can't seem to avoid getting too close to the fire,he will eventually get burned .
It's the fall out from that orange sportscoat he wore at Tenn. Transformed him into sunshine superman.

Can you believe the trouble he got in for that as compared to North Carolina. Mind boggling.

As far as I am.concerned Bruce Pearl is clean as long as he didn't know Pearson paid players, which could be true because he was pocketing large sums for himself. A cookout will.not sway a top recruit to come to your school unless he found 500k in his gift bag when he went to get a towel.

Pearl can coach. Probably in the minority, but I like him. Good grief, his two best players have been out all year and he's leading the SEC and only has 2 losses. .
Is one suspended all year and is the other hurt and or coming back at some point. They are playing well so maybe they will roll with what they have and be okay.

Some people have such narrow definitions of "good coaching". Man, did you see that out of bounds play! You know who is a wizard at good out of bounds plays, both offense and defense? Kevin Stallings. Yeah, he's a great coach, and our Hall of Famer just recruits. Stupid. Just stupid.

If Bruce Pearl is truly one of the best 10 coaches in the country, someone should alert schools across the nation, because here is where he's coached:

Southern Indiana
Milwaukee
Tennessee
Auburn

People with the same IQ as a gravel think like you do about Cal. Have to be severely lacking to make a statement like that. Do you think Izzo is a great coach? What about Jay Wright?

Why, I bet he gets them to a sweet 16 sometime around 2022.

Just a few of observations after watching some of Auburn v Mizzou last night. - No, I do not want Auburn's Coach or players. I know Pearl takes a lot of crap - and I'm personally not a fan - but he is once again getting results.

1. Dude knows basketball and can coach.
2. Dude recruits athletes and they play physical and fast. Reminds me of the Denny Crumb philosophy to a degree which was "give me great athletes and I can make them good enough players".
3. Defense is very "active" and Pitino-like. If fouls are called they are not going far. If fouls are not called - the sky is the limit. They foul... a lot - which is a typical Pearl trait.
4. Players looked to be bought in and committed. They are great in the open floor. Lots of energy.
5. Enough skilled players to be dangerous.
6. And last... His coaching style always seems to instill confidence in his players. They play like they are planning to win and believe they are better. No timidity. Are they arrogant on the floor? - Yes. But there is something to be said for the level of confidence they display. No fear (seemingly) of the doghouse or being yanked every mistake. I think Cal eventually gets players there - but seems like the "tear you down to build you back up" at times. I'm sure some of that has to do with how the players handle his style.

Adidas/FBI issues probably still gonna get Pearl again, but it was an interesting watch last night. Anytime Mizzou punched - Auburn punched back harder and ended up blowing them out.
Great post - team plays fearless and without hesitation - will destroy us down there

The cookout wasn't what got Brucie his show cause and got him fired. It was lying to NCAA investigators about it, and encouraging the recruits and their parents to lie about it.....and if a guy will lie about something that trivial and try to get others to lie about something that trivial.....

I understand that. Lying to the corrupt NCAA pisses them off something awful, except of course UNC and Duke.

Pearl would have received a slap on the wrist if he would of just told the truth.

Auburn fan here who thinks Bruce has totally weathered the storm of the FBI scandal and isn’t going anywhere. Maybe some minor, self imposed penalties but that’s it imo.

Feels good to be back at our rightful place among the blue bloods of cbb

Following up on this post... I was just mostly noting that Pearl is getting results so far this season - and I do love that his players seem to play with such confidence.

As far as his personality goes - just not a fan. He loves the spotlight just a little too much (personally) and his ego seems like it's always going to eventually get the best of him. Yes - Cal loves it too - but I think he handles it much better. If FBI bites Pearl personally (It's all around him - just not on him - yet), I fully expect the fans there to do their best to overlook it - but the school may have no choice.

Bruh, we fans definitely have already overlooked it and blame everything on Chuck Person. The Wileys and the Purifoys got like 7k a piece. None of this was overly scandalous like the **** at Louisville. We basically gave them a used Honda Accord so they could make it to some games. Big deal

Would be President Hillary R Clinton: "At this point what difference does it make!" said with incredulity no less... lol. That is some Auburn integrity!! BBall gets Hondas so football gets....???

Enjoy your season - he's done a good job so far. Not the second coming though.
