Just a few of observations after watching some of Auburn v Mizzou last night. - No, I do not want Auburn's Coach or players. I know Pearl takes a lot of crap - and I'm personally not a fan - but he is once again getting results.

1. Dude knows basketball and can coach.
2. Dude recruits athletes and they play physical and fast. Reminds me of the Denny Crumb philosophy to a degree which was "give me great athletes and I can make them good enough players".
3. Defense is very "active" and Pitino-like. If fouls are called they are not going far. If fouls are not called - the sky is the limit. They foul... a lot - which is a typical Pearl trait.
4. Players looked to be bought in and committed. They are great in the open floor. Lots of energy.
5. Enough skilled players to be dangerous.
6. And last... His coaching style always seems to instill confidence in his players. They play like they are planning to win and believe they are better. No timidity. Are they arrogant on the floor? - Yes. But there is something to be said for the level of confidence they display. No fear (seemingly) of the doghouse or being yanked every mistake. I think Cal eventually gets players there - but seems like the "tear you down to build you back up" at times. I'm sure some of that has to do with how the players handle his style.

Adidas/FBI issues probably still gonna get Pearl again, but it was an interesting watch last night. Anytime Mizzou punched - Auburn punched back harder and ended up blowing them out.

Amazed he's still employed after this adidas/FBI issue. Of course, Auburn doesn't care about bball.
I am surprised he is still there as well, but he will hang on as long as he can.If he gets canned from this job he is probably done at this level for a while. He can coach and does know basketball but he just can't seem to avoid getting too close to the fire,he will eventually get burned .

He and his system and players remind of Cal at Memphis. Not saying he has had nearly the success, duh but just what the OP pointed out about toughness, athletic, cocky.

If Pearl ever landed the Arkansas job, he would have the perfect name sweat hog, like Doc said he can coach and is a good motivator, but he would never be considered here.

Can you believe the trouble he got in for that as compared to North Carolina. Mind boggling.

If you want to get technical, I believe the cookout was a minor/moderate violation. He got in the real trouble for lying about it to the NCAA.

Contrast with UNC, they just said “hey this is how our school is run, we like it, nothing to see here, we’re proud of our simple classes.” Hence no lie, no punishment.

It’s really awful.

Yeah...all Brucie had to do was be upfront with them about the cookout. Instead, he lied, and also tried to get the recruits and their parent to lie about it as well. He's no doubt a good coach, but he's been in way too much crap for me to ever think he's clean.

No one likes anyone else. But, reality is Pearl has done an amazing job and has even beaten Kentucky in the past when he shouldn't have. We do need Auburn to lose a couple games including to us and at least we still are in the running for the SEC despite performance issues to date.

The SEC takes it on the chin a little by not having Auburn play in the SEC/BIG12 challeng this weekend.
Auburn is a team that nobody is talking about, but damn they're good. Best team in the SEC right now I'd say and they are going to wreak havoc in the NCAAT when there aren't any SEC refs blowing their whistles on every touch.
South Carolina benefited from that last year. They couldn't play physical Ball in league play, but they muscled through everyone they played in the NCAAT last year (poor duke).
They play extremely hard and have really good fundamentals.
UK is going to have their work cut out for them when they go down there. Hopefully we get the turnover bug out of our system by then.

Pearl is missing his two best players.

The guy is an excellent coach.

Take a look at his record and accomplishments on his wiki page, he knows what he’s doing.

Uh huh...BP.....Bruce Pearl........Brian P......uh huh...like a BP gas station...."Or something..."...

Pearl is ever bit of good coach as Cal, maybe better.
Notice how many times his team scores after a time out.
After Cal has gone, Pearl would be an excellent replacement, but that will never happen.

I just pray he never coaches at UL.

Yeah but in this case "he" might be part Buzzard...Parts.... (To keep with the BP theme...you know, Birds of a Peather....)
He may well have the eye of the vulture(from Tell Tale Heart)as he scavenges over rotting posts in dying threads.

Easy bud. Good coach but hasn't done anything close to what Cal has done. And you must be a teenager or you'd understand this Auburn team your watching is experienced. A lot easier if you and countless others hasn't figured out for experienced teams to run plays and run them good.
