Attendance on Saturday

Per a local news outlet, ULL was allotted 40,000 tickets for this game and they have only sold 14,000 of those so far... Yikes.

What will overall attendance be on Saturday. 35K? 40K? And how much of that will be State fans? Probably no worse than a 50-50 split by the looks of things.

Not that I’ll move the needle, but I have 6 going with me. We’ve had hotel rooms for months but I’ll buy tickets on the secondary market the day of for value. A couple co-workers and my neighbor are doing the same.

ULL received 41,500. ULL has sold 14,100 thru the University. They have no idea how many each school’s fans have bought on the open markets.

In other news Ole Miss sold their requested allotment of 3000 tickets for Saturday’s game against Memphis and The Tigers have only sold about 12000 through the school.

Time for the Liberty Bowl to build a new stadium for about 45,000 in another location and Memphis can bulldoze the old stadium and turn the land into Government Housing projects.***

I am sure Saturday I am going to be pumped about having a game, but the week 0 meaningless games really sucked. It was nice to have football, but I like it better when the kickoff games for the season are on Thursday followed directly by everyone else on Fri, Sat, Sunday.

College traditions are going away, much to my chagrin. It's all about the almighty TV viewer now. More games in soulless big city neutral sites, less actual geographical rivalries, spreading out the bowl season, week 0 games....it's all about what's important to Joe National TV Viewer, so they can sell big TV packages across the country rather than just local markets. I guess I just have to accept it and focus on the good points.

This is why I still love college baseball. A ton of teams playing at the same times, and you can watch them all if you want. The only part that capitalized for big money and TV slots is the CWS.

TV boys should be very careful to eventually not kill the College Football Saturday in the name of getting the biggest games on TV in their own time slots. There is a reason the NCAA basketball tournament is so popular.

That seems about right

1. The primary lister for this game(Ticketmaster) hasn’t even bothered to release upper level seats yet which I’d have to assume accounts for 35-40% of the dome’s capacity

2. You can go to Ticketmaster this afternoon and still get blocks of tickets in nearly any section that you want outside of the 100s sections.

3. Out of the 100s sections that are blocked out, I’d bet that 3-5k minimum were never available to the public, and many will go unused

Not to be argumentative, but what’s the problem with the 11AM start? If it was at DWS, I’d hate it, but it’s in the dome, so comfort won’t be an issue. Plus, it allows you to have some breakfast, catch the game, and then have pretty much the whole day left to enjoy New Orleans.

For me, I think the low attendance will be much more about the drive, the weak opponent, and the holiday weekend than anything else.

If you live north of Jackson, you have to leave the house at 0-dark thirty to get to New Orleans in time for the game. Some folks can come down on Friday night, but a lot of folks can't because of high school football or other commitments. It makes it difficult. I know a bunch of folks who aren't making the trip because of the game time.

Most people don't roll out of bed that late, but it's in inconvenience for people that don't live locally. I'm thankful that I live in Starkville now and don't have to worry about this anymore, but I grew up in the Pine Belt and early games were tough (and of course we've had a bunch of those over the years). Couldn't come in on Friday nights because of high school games, so we would have to leave no later than 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to make an 11 or 11:30 kickoff. Sometimes it was earlier than that. And I have to imagine the drive from the Coast to Starkville is awful for people that have to make that trip for our games.

The same applies for this weekend in reverse. We have a lot of fans from Jackson and to the north of that who are facing at least a 3-4 hour drive for an 11 a.m. game. That's a pretty big inconvenience for most people. And frankly the opponent isn't attractive for our fans at all. It's not like we are playing a neutral site game in NOLA against a Big 12 school.

Because people like to pre-game, tailgate, drink, eat, hang-out, etc before games. That's a big part of the fun for a lot of people. With a game at 11am you don't have much time to do that. Add in New Orleans is a great place to do those things, and its easy to understand why people are upset about the time. And the whole point of doing a home and home with ULL is that the road game is at the Superdome and fans will enjoy going to New Orleans. With the game being at 11am, many fans won't have the ability to do the fun non-game things before the game so they are not coming.

Even if you stayed Friday night in Kenner, Metairie or Slidell, you would need to get up early just to deal with the traffic coming into the Vieux Carre, then the parking issues that abound for an 11 AM game.

We are fortunate that we are off tomorrow and going down tomorrow morning and spending both nights, near the Dome.

I’m leaving around lunch tomorrow to get down there and enjoy a nice dinner Friday night. I’m waking up early Saturday to eat a nice breakfast and to have a bloody marry before I head to the stadium. After the game I’m spending the afternoon watching college football at a local bar and will be spending the night Saturday. If I can do it, why can’t others? It seems to me people have other priorities. If it’s important to you you’ll be there.
