Last I read the student was in fair shape but was thought to have been contact with a fair number of students prior to becoming symptomatic.

Tough to differentiate the homosexual (not that is anything wrong with that) cult members in College Station from the Tea Sippers in Austin

Something always happens to interfere with our projected national championship years: Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and now Coronavirus.***

10 weeks? Congrats. You are 1/4 way home. Bring her on in for a soft landing!

Man I love it when people still want to have children!

SARS, MERS and this coronavirus are worked with at BSL3 containment, not BSL4. Labs can work with the genomic material from these viruses at BSL2, assuming they validate virus inactivation prior to the move. The presence of a 4 close to the outbreak sight should have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Just read where incubation period is 14 days.....this could get crazy in a hurry.

This strain is more contagious than SARS was but appears to be less lethal. We already have the full genome isolated and sequenced. We have molecular diagnostics in place for this virus.

Influenza is much more lethal.

Why I get my flu shot every year. The flu is no joke. Although this seems to be much more prevalent in older men and I barely qualify, so I'm keeping my eyes on it.

I have been in labs with Ebola, hemorrhagic fevers, B. anthracis, plague (Y. pestis), and just about every other scary virus/bacteria/toxin known to man. Two things scare me - influenza and multi-drug resistant TB. The 1918 Spanish flu didn’t wipe out 1/3 of the world’s population because it was special, it wiped out a 1/3 of the world’s population because it was a unique strain no one had immunity to and no vaccines existed. There are real scenarios that could happen again.

Well these things are never a big deal, until they are. I didn’t post about it because I was necessarily worried about it, these things just interest me and as the world gets smaller and smaller the risk does rise.
