So Washington held a gun to Sharpe, his Parents and Cal's head?

Apparently, Sharpe, his parents, and Cal thought he was playing next year? Must of been one heck of a surprise on that March day when the handler walked in and told them we are going to the NBA. Lol

As for why Calipari didn’t just play him, multiple sources have confirmed that Sharpe and his family were amenable to playing last season and, when injuries piled up in Kentucky’s backcourt, Calipari would’ve gladly done it. But, sources say, Washington intervened and shut that down.

So Cal was not in control to put Sharpe into a game when injuries piled up ? Cal knew all about this and lied to the fans.
For a coach who claimed he'd "never be held hostage again", that sure does look like a Heat level robbery.

That was hilarious to read.

Tucker spoon-feeding the masses what he was spoon-fed himself from Cal's ministers of propaganda.

Sharpe and his family, and Cal, and the entire team wanted Sharpe to play, but one all-powerful handler set them straight?

What’s sad is that their are some really dumb people on here that will actually believe that stuff. The same ones that told everyone they were stupid when they complained about a 9-16 season, the same morons that constantly compare Cal to Coach K, that made excuses for losing to St. Peter’s, etc.

Let’s just start here: While there is a debate to be had about whom they should actually be mad at, it is wrong to suggest (as some have) that Kentucky fans are not justified in their anger that Shaedon Sharpe is leaving without ever playing a minute for the Wildcats. Of course they should be upset now that we know — via multiple sources confirming to The Athletic — that Sharpe plans to enter and stay in the 2022 NBA Draft. It’s hard not to feel like John Calipari’s program got played. Should folks be mad at the shy, quiet 18-year-old at the center of this circus? Probably not. His parents? Nope. Or at least folks shouldn’t be nasty to them online, because (beyond that being generally good advice in civilized society) as a projected lottery pick, he has logical reasons to go pro now. It’s not the decision, rather the handling of this entire situation, that has been absolutely maddening for Kentucky’s program and those who love it.

Here’s why: For months after he announced plans to enroll early at Kentucky, Sharpe, his family and advisor Dwayne Washington told UK’s staff and the public that he planned to practice but not play with the Wildcats for the second semester of last season — but then return to school and play for the team next season. We can confidently say now that was a charade. And for what? Was it all just to validate to the NBA that he meets the league’s requirement for 2022 draft eligibility? Because throughout the last several months, as he was offering so many reassurances of a return, Washington told numerous people on the NBA side that Sharpe definitively planned to be in the 2022 draft. On Thursday, after The Athletic reported as much, Sharpe finally put out a statement saying that he is entering the draft but leaving open a door to return to school. No one in the NBA believes that will happen.

Washington, via text message, declined four times to answer a direct question Thursday: Do you dispute that you’ve been telling people in the NBA that Sharpe plans to stay in the draft? He deflected. “From now on, I’m only going to respond to actual names of people,” Washington wrote. “Because the term ‘NBA people’ is broad. I wouldn’t listen to anyone if I were you. Just go by Shaedon’s statement. Those are the facts.” He added that Sharpe “has no agent!!!!” and concluded “if he wanted to leave, he would have left a long time ago.” Washington wrote that if Sharpe was planning to bolt, why wouldn’t he have an agent, why would he still be taking classes and why would he remain on Kentucky’s campus?

Some answers: because Washington has not yet earned his agent certification, because the spring semester is still not over and, well, Sharpe is actually not on campus anymore; he’s finishing up the semester online.

One scout for a team in this year’s lottery believes there was never a plan for Sharpe to actually play at Kentucky. The scout says he spoke to Washington as far back as the fall and Washington confirmed that Sharpe would be in the 2022 draft.

Evidently, he's an all-powerful, omnipresent, Thanos-level super-villain scumbag who has powers over Cal, the team, the coaching staff, Sharpe, BBN, and Sharpe's entire family.

Talk about some true Charles Manson-level persuasion. Who'd a thought it?
I mean, I know they're all in on it, I just wanted to insult someone else for a change related to this mess.

"It's hard not to feel like John Calipari's program got played."

He seriously wrote that. You are the head coach of the University of Kentucky. How many years has Calipari been doing this? Tucker making him out to be the victim?? Bull and ****. Calipari is just as culpable as Sharpe & his people.

All he had to tell them was: no.

Tucker's not going to go for any narrative outside of the one they're feeding him when it comes to the most embarrassing player situation since Chris Mills, especially when there's any level of ambiguity about culpability here.

He knows where his bread is going to be buttered for the next few years, and asserting a hardline position of motivation and guilt toward the Sharpes or Cal is the type of thing that would get him placed in the timeout chair by UK.

Well, I'm not buying that the handler is the one the blame. That guy can't make Sharpe declare without his agreement. He doesn't make the final decisions for Sharpe. So, if he was saying as far back as last fall that there is no plan for Shaedon to play for UK, then that was the plan.

Now, other than this, the only problem I have here is the conspiracy theory that says Cal knew all the way back to the fall that Sharpe was going to the NBA. I see no logical or rational reason why Cal would have brought the kid to UK while KNOWING he would never play a minute. And the reason I say this is in full display today, on this board and nationally- Cal is the laughing stock right now, a national joke, a punch-line. Why would he intentionally perpetrate this deception on UK, on BBN, and on the team? He gets ZERO benefit.

So, my thought is this: if this is all true and this has been the plan all along, to screw UK over and use them to just get into the NBA, Cal isn't the villain here. Shaedon, his family, and his handler are all villains here. If we fault Cal here, and I do, it's for being gullible enough to fall for this. If the kid has been projected a lottery pick, he's gone. I just don't believe Cal knew and was in on it. I think that is a conspiracy born out of anger and bitterness.

That's my 2 cents.

I worked in Lexington media for 10 years and it is ridiculous how close the journalists are with the university. And I'm a graduate of UK.

When one doesn't ask critical questions, one shouldn't be surprised when they're viewed as nothing more than a shill.

Cal could have said, he is playing if he stays here. If he then left instead of playing fans would have understood. Bad decision in games and out is what Cal has become.

That article is a bunch of horse apples. He thinks we are idiots. He expects us to believe that this Washinbton guy ( who isn't even a real agent) goes spouting off to NBA scouts and Cal wouldn't have heard about it. Cal the ex NBA coach who has put about 100 guys in the NBA and hobnobs regularly with guys like LeBron didn't here from the NBA that Snarpes agent was spouting to NBA scouts that Sharpe would be in the draft. Really.
See that's the thing that's unforgivable to me ,not Sharpe actual,y leaving, not the agent acting in his clients " interest". I can live with that, what I can't accept is that Cal knew in the Fall that this ,I'd was going pro, and he let him come anyway. He fed our fans a line of crap the entire season about what was really happening. He allowed a super star high schooler work out dress out and sit on the bench, in full view of his actual team, a team badly injured and in need of help. This is unforgivable, a UK coach working for himself and not the Kentucky basketball team, and doing it deliberately.

Dude- give it a rest. You speak like you actually “know” something. It’s obvious you have an “opinion” on this issue, which you’ve expressed ad nauseum.

if you want to post in definitives, as you clearly do, please cite a source or reference, otherwise; let everyone know you are the typical uninformed “fan” that has an opinion.

you try to come across as someone who knows more than most, but I’m not buying it.

Cal benefits.Dont forget his players first mantra and draft night is the biggest event in UK history. Not my words,his.....
Yeah he played along, does it matter when he knew?
He allowed this fiasco to happen,no way he gets off being the victim.

I don't think this helps his image at all. Maybe I'm wrong. I think it makes him look gullible and foolish. I don't think he's a victim, though. He played the game. He at least had to know the risks when he's recruiting the #1 player and a projected lottery pick. I just don't think he is the primary one to blame here. I don't think he knew Sharpe leaving was a foregone conclusion. I think he hoped Sharpe would keep his word and play next season. Was that naive? Yes. Was it foolish? Yes. Was it malicious? No.

Calipari may not be the villain here, but he certainly isn’t the victim either. If it is true that Washington had been telling NBA people since last year that Sharpe was heading to the draft, then you can bet your last dollar that those words got back to Calipari. The guy is more connected to the NBA than any college coach in history and you’re telling me that he had the wool pulled completely over his eyes. Sorry, not buying but.

When it became evident that Sharpe wasn’t going to play then Calipari had an obligation to step in and end the sh*t show. I know Calipari is a player’s first guy, and I admire him for that. He backs up his guys and they love him for it. But in this instance he should have put the program first imo. I’d rather be known as a coach who removed a kid from the team because he didn’t want to play as opposed to the laughingstock as he is known right now.

Nope. Not buying it, Kyle.

Why does Tucker deemphasize the fact that Cal still went out -- after supposedly getting shut down by Washington and after receiving news that Sharpe would "test" the NBA draft waters -- and tell BBN he was going to "lead us" next season?

That's the part that pisses me off.

Also, Tucker's sources are on the coaching staff. Of course they're going to shield Sharpe and his family. It's naive to believe that some handler had more sway than Sharpe's own family, or even Sharpe himself.

Tucker was fed some deflection slime from the Kentucky coaching staff to protect the kid. Tucker has a vested interest to run with the story that they fed him (notice how the story shields both Calipari and the Sharpes?). It was a collective decision for Sharpe not to play, and Cal joined hands as they sang their "we shall not be moved" closing hymn song.
100% this was a spin piece to get Cal and Sharpe off the hook with the fans. Tucker was fed this.

I guess we just see it differently and that's fine, nothing wrong with it.I just think Cal isnt blameless here.He isnt a victim and at some point, some point during this charade he knew and at that point he should have shut the shitshow soap opera down, told the whole crew to go home and concentrate on the players that were out there on the court getting injured and playing injured. Not telling fans to come out and watch the drama king in a lay up line.

You may be right. As I said above, I'm not buying this idea that it's all this handler's fault, as if he's pulling all the strings. Sharpe and his family have to ok everything that guy does. Now, he may be running his mouth (wouldn't surprise me one bit) to talk up his boy and try to get some offers, but the final decision is Shaedon Sharpe's. If he leaves without playing a single minute, that's ultimately on him. Is this handler holding a gun to his head? No.

I have to check my ego at the door sometimes cause I remember not being the biggest team player. But I could not imagine joining a team.. using them for a semester and bouncing the next chance I get.

I get there is major $$$ involved but Cal isn't that gullible... he was hired to win UK Championships... not to make 5 stars rich. That should of been a secondary issue not #1 priority.

So there you have it, gentlemen. The NBA knew Sharpe was going pro, but Cal, who talks to the same scouts weekly, didn't know?

Your response @MdWIldcat55 , @Sejonesy , @SpamburgerHamburger , @Lempface , etc.?
I said the exact same thing in response to a thread on here earlier today. I also said cal knew but hoped sharpes issues would keep him here.
