ASU vs. RU for Cliff?

Interesting thing to keep tabs on here as by all indications is ASU's hoops season as they are the perceived slight leader for Cliff over RU. They are getting housed right now at Arizona and will likely fall to 9-5. The PAC-12 is very tough this year and I don't even see ASU as an NIT team right now. Keep in mind the one ASU game Cliff went to was at Princeton where it took a last second ASU shot to win. With both teams going in completely different directions this year it will be interesting to see if that will be a deciding factor.

Why doesn't it have any bearing when it involves players making decisions on other teams, but always comes into play when that same player decides with Rutgers?

he’s going to the highest bidder and right now it looks like that will be ASU. Ru probably put in a competitive offer but ASU will get him.

RU isn’t pulling in top talent, nor do we need to (look at us now).

ASU is going to give him 5+ figures to play there, we aren’t going to match that

I really wish our fans would stop making predetermined excuses and accusations of accepting money against every top guy we recruit. Gonna be awkward when one signs here.

The problem is that this fan base is Naive and thinks that we are the one clean program in the country. Every power 5 team pays for recruits and we are not innocent. There’s guys we have paid to get, and some are currently on the roster. But most ppl here think we don’t and that is where they are wrong.

now you are going to say I have no idea of knowing, but I know ppl in the NJ coaching circles that know all this information way before anyone else. So I’m not just spewing garbage to you.

Sounds like garbage to me. I’ve never really asked any of my friends/ sources that question and I would feel somewhat embarrassed to do so. However, call me naive but I can’t see this administration/ coaching staff paying anyone to play here at Rutgers.
I realize it does happen elsewhere but I would think at a much lower percentage then you think. A few bad apples -win at any cost...

I never asked, I was told. And again that proves my what I just said about the fan base being naive.

Woody -- If you have evidence that Rutgers is paying for recruits, you should report this to the NCAA and local media.

If you have evidence that RU is paying for recruits, tell the people paying to cough up more or get @kyk1827 in contact with them to help them out.

If Pikiell was going to pay recruits don’t you think he would have paid up for the Martin twins or Naz Reid or any other player we got close with?

I find it very hard to believe that we are paying to get 3 star players.

speaking of players we got close with, you think Hyatt regrets going to LSU. Only playing 9 minutes per game right now

Time to nuke this thread. Weve gone full dummy mode here.

with that said, i have really good sources with kids on the team and i can promise you not a single guy on the current roster was paid to come here.

however, I can also tell you that pike knows which kids are looking for $$$ to come and he stops recruiting them, pike runs probably the single cleanest program in all of the p5. I asked a top aau coach why top NJ recruits dont give RU a shot and his answer was “pikes not willing to pay and youll never land the top kids without paying them”

I know one of Pike’s childhood friends and he adamantly said, “Pike will never ever pay a player and if Rutgers wants to do that, it will not be with Steve as HC.”

unfortunately for Rutgers fans this is 100% true...
Yup, tbh i wish pike would get a little dirty and set up some payments but the simple truth is that he wont even consider it

Here’s my question though? If he’s going to ASU, what’s he waiting for?

Pikiell is not paying and risking his career. He’s frustrated that it goes on but he’s just not doing it. I wouldn’t do it either. You make one mistake and trust the wrong guy and it’s all over.

I can't believe that Kentucky won't be a final choice because Roselle Catholic recruits have chosen that school in the past.

To clarify --in 89-90, the 300s weren't used as overflow--they were used for stduent season tickets. The ones behind the bench were season tix, 108,109 and 110 were all student season tickets and quite a few students had seaons tickets in the 300s. Think about that one!

Correct. Wrong thread however lol!

Since Pike is not paying recruits, there is no risk of Woody going to the NCAA.

I just can’t see the kind of money they pay being the end all be all. Cliff gets a full ride staying home and if he wants that engineering degree; it’s here.

Yes you are spewing garbage. You are full of it. We dont pay players.

Any suggestion that we do eliminates you as having any true connection to our program.

Rutgers has run one of the cleanest athletic departments for decades. Either that or we have been shopping at Dollar Tree. Rutgers paying players ? Please. Yeah I bet we have been paying everyone from Souf Mensah to Robin James.

Again I am as big of a fan as there is on this board. But I am just telling you what I have heard. If my info is wrong then I apologize for that but this is coming from an NJ HS coach.

I think he cares more for a pro basketball career then an engineering degree

Well then there’s the question of playing time at say a Kentucky or do you think Bobby Hurley gives you a better option than a Pikiell? I would think if you can do it at ASU, you can do it at Rutgers. If he thinks he will become a superstar and get the playing time with Calipari, go there.

Probably to see if Romello White declares for the NBA Draft. Omoruyi is probably doing this with all of his finalists.

Romello White isn’t getting drafted. ASU just lost by 30 and he is a nice player but a poor FT shooter. He will likely be playing internationally.

What i know is teams pay players via a scholarship which means a free education including room and board. If other type payoffs were so prevalent ,there would be mention in media such as twitter and facebook because there are very few secrets anymore.
