The surgeon who replaced my mitral valve said there was a 3% mortality rate. I remember thinking that would make my surgery the most dangerous thing I have ever done. That was 21 years ago. They are much better now. So I won’t worry about you but I have added you to my prayer list. God’s peace to you and your family.

It sounds like you have a great surgeon which increases the odds for success greatly. I’m sure we’ll be hearing back from you soon. Good Luck and God Bless. Our prayers are with you.
It is scary when you face it but the surgery almost borders on routine. When I had mine done, my surgeon out of UPenn mentioned to me that he did 300/year. That seemed insane to me. It was just another Monday at the office to him.
I have utmost confidence Fair will be in capable hands as well.

And I am 5.5 years into an aortic valve replacement. I opted for the bovine replacement. Moo!
My surgeon said the pig/cow valve lasts only ~ 20 years. I really didn't want to go through it again if I didn’t have to, so I went mechanical. They say the ‘downside’ is you need to be on Coumadin/blood thinners for the rest of your life. That has not bothered me on bit. I am very good about taking it daily. I often fall asleep at night listening the the clicking sound :ROFLMAO:

I wish you continued health and wellness!

Fairgambit - Praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. I love seeing all of the support here. We’ve got your back.

FWIW, I went with natural aortic valve 2 1/2 years ago. I didn’t want to be able to hear the mechanical valve. :)

Best wishes to you and looking forward to seeing you back here soon.

From time-to-time posters make prayer requests on this Board for family, friends, or for themselves. When I read them, I try to respond as best I can. Today I humbly ask for prayers for myself.
As I have mentioned in the past, Mrs. Gambit is a stickler for our privacy, so I will not provide the date or place, but in the coming days I will be undergoing open heart surgery, primarily to repair a badly leaking heart valve. The operation is serious, but my surgeon is among the very best and the chances of success are over 90%. Still, there are no guarantees. I have always been a strong believer in prayer and I will need all the help I can get going forward, so I ask that if you have a brief moment, and are so inclined, please ask the Good Lord to grant me a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
I don't want to put a burden on my wife in providing a post-surgery update and so I will just say that if all goes well I will let the Board know as soon as I can. If you don't hear from me by the middle of August...well, lets not even think about that.
Thanks in advance for all who might answer my plea.
My best wishes to all who post here. May God Bless us, every one.

Respectfully,
fairgambit
Prayers for you and the family!

Fair, when will this surgery occur? Please let us know when you come through the other side.

Best wishes and prayers to you and your family. I went through the same two years ago. Take comfort in knowing that top cardiothoracic surgeons these days do amazing things.

I missed this somehow.

All my best for a quick recovery. The Docs do things every day that seem incredible to us patients. I am sure that you will sail through this and have a good story to tell us all.

I have included you in my daily prayers, right after world peace and before success for the Phillies.
