I come in peace and looking for some help.

My wife and I are taking the train from central PA and heading to NYC for the first time for the BIG10 tournament. Asking for some insight since I don’t expect our guys to make it past a game or two. Our hotel is just south of Madison Square Garden and looking for some advice in some places to eat, drink and whatever other recommendations you may have. Is Keens the place to go?

Are the coal pizza places worth the effort or overrated? Best Pizza? Also expect to hit the touristy spots that would include the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Central Park Ride, etc. Is it worth the VIP, priority ticket price?

Any insight to roof top bars in the vicinity.

Places to Drink? theres a place right by port authority, about 6 streets from MSG called Beer Authority, it was pretty good when I went.

there likely isn't a bad pizza spot anywhere in NYC...some great wood burning spots....but if your looking for Coal Pizza likely nothing like the coal pizza in central pa ;)

In my opinion, the Empire State Building is a waste of time. Go see a broadway show, Intrepid Museum, or to the Statue of Liberty/Liberty State Park instead.

If you feel so inclined you want to go up a building in midtown do the top of the rock instead. While shorter than Empire State you get views of the Empire State Building and then as a bonus you get great shots of Central Park.

There are double decker bus tours - that either go downtown or uptown from 42 Street (another tourist attraction). I think it's a great way to see the City and its sights and you can get off at any stop and get back on a subsequent bus. Other areas to see: Greenwich Village; Chinatown; Central Park; 9/11 Memorial, Times Square etc.

Our go-to dinner for out of town folks is times square... dinner at Carmine's, drinks at the Marriott Marquis revolving restaurant. These are really touristy things to do, but they make for a decent first NYC trip.

And don't pay full price for Broadway show tickets
Many shows available at the Tkts booth in Times Square (and other locations
and on-line) $75 -85 for orchestra seats
Book of Mormon and Hamilton not there but many quality shows available

I live in Boston but visit NYC often. Definitely recommend seeing the WTC exhibit and a Broadway show -both are great takes and also check out Rockefeller Center and its skating rink. Also visit the Museum of Modern Art if you enjoy seeing some great masterpieces in art. MOMA also has a very good restaurant. If you're looking a for a modestly priced meal that's quintessential NYC--check out Katz's Deli for very good delicatessan. It's on Houston street near Greenwich village , Chinatown ,etc. A few doors down from Katz's is Russ and Daughters. You can't eat at Russ's but it has terrific smoked salmon, bagels etc. you can bring home and enjoy. Both are classics....

Regarding Pizza, John Madden while broadcasting a Monday Night Football game involving the Giants once said how much he loves NYC because there is a pizza parlor on every corner. And every single one has the best pizza you ever had.

Lombardi's is the oldest Pizza joint in NYC, located near or in Little Italy. Went there on a NYC pizza tour last year and it was very good. And oven is coal fired.

I think "Top of the Rock" is better and less crowded than Empire State. Horse drawn carriage around Central Park is a complete waste of money, but definitely spend time walking around Central Park. I don't think of NYC pizza as coal pizza - I still think John's Pizza is the best. Find a Wafels & Dinges kiosk (bottom of Central Park). Battery Park is a great trip, even if you don't make it out to the Statue of Liberty.

Just don't go to any of those dollar pizza joints.

31st Cafe right across from the Garden. I go there when we go watch the NY Liberty most of the teams go there and the food is very good. Routinely bump into Bill Lambier there
