That tells it all. UK fans and Coach Calipari are not in the same universe. His goals are not UK fans goals.

Cal should be in politics or a social worker. He has the con man down for politics and the heart for socialism work.

I’ve said on here 100 times- we’re too aggressive accepting early enrollees. There are the elite of the elite, who you’ve got to take, but I don’t want an early enrollee unless he’s a top 7 or 8 guy.

More times than not, and early enrollee is going to get his *** kicked by a tough 21 or 22 year old. We see it happen every year.

Are people shocked by Askew stumbling Out the gate? I’m not. Same with Juzang- he was nowhere near ready.....and look how that turned out.
I've thought the same thing for a while on guys reclassify and basically skipping past their Sr year....Terrance Clarke, Askew, Hagans, Juzang, Diallo, Jamal Murray, Issac Humphries (I think), Nerlens, Dakari, KAT, Tia Wynyard.

There are some jewels in that list (KAT and Murray) but more often you get a kid that isn't ready to compete over 40 games with collegiate level athletes and hurts your team as much as helps your team.

Valid points. Not ready to give up by any means on Askew, but definitely crossing my fingers.

I understand Cal looking to March and what players will help the most then. But, if you struggle early and lose some games to teams that aren’t very good, it’s going to drastically hurt what seed you get in the tournament. That will make it much harder to win. How long has it been since Kentucky was a 1 seed? Also, if Cal doesn’t play these grad transfers he’s been getting, he’s not going to be getting any more.

@Sawnee Cat relates everything to politics. He spends 23.5 hours a day on the politics thread and it's sad that he has to pop over here and take shots at Cal all because he is obsessed with politics. Sadly, he and several others are acting like tiny little men because they know good and well that Cal is not involved with BLM, but they try to pin it on him because they don't like him. Petulant.

Askew should still be in high school. Is it too late to send him back?

Welcome to ignore. Ignorant. What's sad is that I've seen you say you don't get into UK sports anymore yet you pop in and take shots. My 6 year old niece acts that way, but she'll grow out of it........

I think he will be good his second year but will be overwhelmed this season. It's understandable he will need time but when our championship hopes rest on him this season it's not hopeful.

Championship hopes, for this team? This is a S16 at best, maybe E8 if we get the right draw.

The entire state could agree on Askew Vs Mintz and Cal is going to do what Cal wants to do .. for the better or worse. NOT that he take polls to see who gets the most PT , but sometimes unless Cal thinks its his own idea he will do the opposite just to be obstinate . His ego wont allow him to think " hmm maybe I'm wrong" . I could list more than a few examples .

These reclassifications can be silly. Clarke turned 19 in September. Not only is he in the right class for his age, he’s on the older side for a freshman in college. He’s a full year older than I was when I was a freshman in college.
That seems to be the normal thing now where I live. I had just turned 18 before graduating HS and my sister was still 17 when she graduated. Yet, our younger brother turned 19 in the middle of his senior year of HS. Our two younger cousins also graduated HS at 19. A lot of kids have been starting school at a later age.

The first couple times I saw Askew and Mintz I thought it was a no brainer that Mintz was our starting PG. I was surprised to see Askew get the nod ... even more surprised to see him getting substantially more minutes.
The minutes...or lack thereof for Mintz is the mind boggling thing to me. Even if he is gettin some Minutes at the 2 as well, Mintz should be getting 15-20 at minimum. I'd argue that with Brooks out, we could easily go Askew, Mintz, Clarke, Boston, Big man for stretches against smaller teams that are packing it in.

Agreed 100%. And we actually have someone here who says “why does it matter who starts if they’re both playing...” after a game where Askew played 35 minutes to Mintz’s 10. Ummmmm ...

We are young people.
And that’s whose fault? We are always young and starting over. Tired of that being an excuse used. We have some experienced players that can help us win now. It’s vital to play Mintz, Sarr and Brooks (when healthy) in starting lineup. Look..... we haven’t done anything special in NCAA tourney since 2015. This will be 6 tournaments of lucky getting out of sweet 16. If we are not going to be special in March then let’s try to accumulate wins during the regular season and quit losing to teams we really have no reason losing to each and every year.

Yeah if you told me Brooks would be out and Mintz would only get 10 minutes I would think it’s a blowout or foul trouble. Cal must see something we don’t or he’s trying to develop Askew.

Serious question, if you were Cal how would you get the players to stay in school? I keep seeing people post about players leaving early so I am curious as to how people would make them stay.

Yeah I’m not sure how it was Cals fault Juzang left. If we recruited guys who stayed 4 years the complaints would be we don’t sign enough talent. I think the new transfer rule will help a lot look at how big getting Sarr was. We can fill holes with experienced players every year.

I was as well. If Cal keeps this up, transfers will stop coming to Ky as they won’t want to sit out to someone who is not as good as them. The negative recruiting that will occur by other teams will be powerful no matter who is on the sideline as Assistant coaches. Last night against Kansas, the same thing happened & when Mintz was running things, we were a better team. Worried about the future if Cal doesn’t make modifications. Hope this isn’t what we get since he has a lifetime contract.

Th size....what would you even do against all that size

The little guards just run around them. Big guards can’t keep anyone in front of them. But oh yeah, all that size. Maybe Cal should recruit and start 5 seven footers. Oh the size.

How do DA’s stats look after last night? Gonna guess not any better, maybe worse?

I’ve never heard Cal say he will get them there in a year but I have heard him say he will prepare them for the NBA and every kids journey is different when he is doing interviews with the media . Granted, I’ve never sat in on a recruiting visit so I don’t think any of us know what their pitch is except for a bunch of hearsay.

If you are surprised then you haven't been paying attention the last 11 years. Cal plays favorites and will play the 5 star player over a better 3 or 4 star to "prepare for March" and it helps recruit the next batch of 5 stars.

Askew seems a step slow for a Calipari Point guard. Never saw him Blow past the defender and that allowed the defender to gamble and challenge him . The result was a lot of turnovers!

For a team full of incredible athletes, Cal struck out on his most important position regarding athleticism. His offense is stagnant without an athletic freak running point.

Unless Askew find his inner Tyler Ulis our offense is going to struggle I am afraid. Which is all the more reason I wish he would let Clarke be the primary ball handler. His ability to get to the rim will allow our bigs to crash the glass and (fingers crossed) provide our shooters ????? with some space.

Quade 2.0

Quade Green is better at this point than Askew.

Askew is transfer bait. He is a 4 year player who will be recruited over and transfer at years end. Not much to this story, pretty easy to see it coming.

I remember when I said SKJ was going to end up being a transfer. That didn't go well here, I don't think this one will either, but Askew will transfer either way.

The guy should still be in high school. He came here to learn how to be great. I’ll not be a party to bashing the kid for wanting to go to the best NBA training academy in the Country. Problem is all these kids get the ⭐ based on potential. Only time will tell on that one. He needs to re learn the game, get stronger, improve his lateral speed and quickness along with developing a jump shot. I just hope those around him are patient and let him grow. We gotta be as well.

Will he stay long enough to develop though? I honestly think that’s one reason why we’re seeing fans get increasingly frustrated with poor play from freshmen. Because we feel like no water what; theyre out the door in May.

a lot of the fans have bought into cal’s vision. I was talking to a fan on instagram and he kept telling me “these kids go to UK to get prepared for the next level, championships are just icing on the cake”
that’s why we can never have this debate and get a sense of understanding. People are too bought in.

While I think it's obviously that Mintz gives us a better chance at winning now I guess Cal clearly feels going forward that Askew would be the better option. Whether that's true or not I guess remains to be seen.

But it's 3 games into the season.

The guy that said put Clark at the one would be interesting to see. He isn't doing anything so let him handle the ball and let Mintz play Quickleys role.
