I think we're in a whole new world that a lot of us don't realize exist. You're really going to need a program to know who's on a team that you don't follow closely. Before criticizing everybody why don't you give us time to adjust to this new reality.
Yes. It was always going to be hard to pivot away from the way we’ve recruited/managed our roster to something more sustainable. But now....I’m not sure how this is going to work. The new transfer rules will make life difficult for every coach, but it’s really going to be interesting to see how this works. One obvious answer is to move away from one and done and to a different kind of one and done, where you try to raid the transfer portal for the best players. But that’s a questionable strategy, and even if we could carve out that niche i don’t think the fans would like it any more than what we’ve had.

Look, I didn’t want Askew to be our starting point guard next season because I don’t think he’s good enough to be ready for that, just like I don’t think he should have been playing as much as he was this season. That’s said, we can’t keep losing all of these guys who should be 4 year role players. It wasn’t sustainable before and Kentucky will never be good so long as it continues.

Not every player is a starter. Logically, we all know that. Yet at Kentucky not only are they all starters, apparently, but they all expect to be one and done. It’s crazy.

again, a 2 or 3 year guy from a mid tier program wasn't good enough to play here before

remember the "would you pass on a Brandon Boston to recruit a 3 star" people?

are they the ones singing the praises of raiding the transfer portal to bring in the veteran 3 star guys?

I’ve been saying for weeks there was no way in hell Askew was staying here to be the third string PG next year. It is literally the Quade situation all over again. I guess maybe his dad was hoping Cal wouldn’t recruit another PG, but clearly somebody is coming or Mintz is coming back.

I like winning. Whatever will get us there is what I like.

Well...

I did want him to stick around, thought by years 3 and 4 he could be a very nice player, but I'd also hoped we brought in another PG and that he played seriously reduced minutes next year. Might be hard to ask that of a guy who just started and played major minutes.
Mintz is fine, but he’s not a make or break player. We should be able to win 9 without him.

This sucks. I will love bumping this thread in a couple years after he starts playing well for another school his 3rd-4th year in school. We have a lot of posters in this thread trying to play both sides of the fence.

They say they want guys to come back, but then when it comes to Askew they flip the script. Its Like STL said, it ain’t all about what you can do for me next year, but what you can do for me in 2-3 years. I guess we have a lot of posters that only started watching college ball when Cal got here? They seem to have no memory of how college ball worked before he got here. We had several guys stay all 4 years and see tremendous growth and improvement. Guys with a lot less hype coming out of high school then Askew.

And no, he should not have been starting and getting so many minutes. And he shouldn’t start start or get a ton of time next season either. So much for Cal changing. Y’all make me cringe when he puts out a few sound bites and y’all are like “woooo swaggy Cal is back!” Cringy af.

As for why he is transferring now.... I have two theories... Askew was FOS in that earlier article where he declared he was different. He didn’t mean a word of it and he thought he was going to start again. Or Cal told him something similar to what he a told a majority of the Tubby/Gillespie leftovers when he got here and Askew took the hint and is now leaving.

I think it’s the latter. I think Cal made it clear to him that he wouldn’t get much time next season and didn’t present any of sort of development plan/roadmap for him so he’s bolting.

I just read a rumor that Askew contacted Louisville.I know he almost went there at first.Anyone else read this?
This is true. This is what Graf's tweet is eluding to. The UL insiders said right after the season was over Askew reached out to Mack about transferring there, but Mack told him he wasn't interested.

Good. Askew is trash
You are what gives BBM a bad reputation. To call a 18yr old trash, because he didn't live up to your expectations is disgraceful, this kid did nothing but give his best effort, he is not the one who gave himself a 5 star rating. That was done by others. I'm sure this was not the season he hoped it would be. Next time you THINK about calling someone trash, you might consider his family and friends and the rest of BBN. People like you shouldn't be allowed to even post on here you are a total a--h---

If you play for Kentucky you should never ask Louisville if you can play for them. What a disgrace.

Could it be Zegarowski ? I know Kansas fans were talking about it on their boards.

So, all those minutes this year were spent on developing a player for another team.

I look at this past season as being an "investment" in the development of a player we all know is very talented, but "raw" for major college basketball.

With someone like Askew, I don't see why he should ever be afraid of losing significant minutes to a player who no one can even name.

I think you might be close to what is happening - the latest Juzang and Askew as "one and gone". The fans, as passengers on the MAX that cal is at the controls of, is on a downward spiral and I'm afraid his "OAG" won't get us past the OAD.

I am actually sorry to see him leave. he would have been a nice player to have around his junior and senior years. Unfortunately, he is burdened with notions that he is better than he actually is, when compared to pros. He could be a great college player in 2-3 years, but he will never be an NBA starter. It really is difficult to get some of these kids to deal with reality. And sometimes, the parents are the real problem!
