Quickley or Hagans would you want back?
Preferably both... but smoking gun to my head I'll take the reigning SEC player of the year Quickley.
Quickley or Hagans would you want back?
LOL. Seems you've haven't been paying much attention over the years.
I've seen so many players backtrack on these type statements. They mean nothing to me unless the kid releases an official statement.
I know that lineup isn’t the best case scenario for IQ, but it is one hell of a stout starting 5.I doubt we get IQ and Hagans both back. What good would it do IQ to return if Hagans is back at PG? IQ needs to be the primary PG to improve his draft stock, which is the reason he should stay.
But if we get them both back, I expect this to be our starting five:
G Hagans
G Quickley
G Clarke
G Boston
F Montgomery
Four guard lineup. Very dangerous team. Boston is 6’7 so he should be long enough to defend the 4. Some teams might post him up, but how many big men will be able to guard him on the perimeter?
But like I said, we probably won’t get both back.
Yes and yes we are in desperate need of a big of NR doesn’t return which I dint see happening. Best thing is he sees he could be a top 10 pick with returning and putting up sane numbers. The big problem right now is the need for big men. The potential lack of a PG pales in comparison.
Really, you're going to put that on Hagans? 7 turnovers is terrible, I'll give you that. Hagans also had 10 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists. 4/8 from the field. Herro had 7 points on 3/11 shooting. He did have 6 assists. Hagans was the 3rd leading scorer. And I remember Herro was who they kept picking on on defense. PJ missed 6 free throws. Reid Travis didn't score but 9 points. ImKid sunk our run with pj and Reid. Should've been another FF and potential title.
Then he nearly sunk last year's team at the end of the season.
I'm ready to turn the page. I think all involved will be better off for it
He is the master at it. K tried it, didn't work. Roy tried it, didn't work, Self tries it, don't work.Agree 100% and I think you touch on a big point.. That it's not a BAD thing. He works the NBA angle because it gets players in the door. More players through the door means better success. People get mad that he seems to favor the players over the program.. but guess what? We've been a top3 team and arguably the best team of the decade.
Maybe Calipari knows what he's doing here..
Hagans is not, and never was a great on ball defender. He was disruptive off the ball. Auburn spaced the floor to go right at him in the E8 second half.Yeah, it wasn't a matter of if, but when and how often Hagans was going to pick the ball from whoever he was guarding.
I don't think there was ever a point in time where I could say that about Ulis and I am a huge Ulis fan. Heck, I even spell his name right.
But also, there is a reason Ulis wasn’t in the game in that 2015 loss to Wisconsin. He couldn't guard his man. He was getting abused. I know that was his freshman year, but Hagans was an elite on-ball defender his freshman year, not just this year. Tyler was a great all around player and a great defender, but his defense was more about recognizing what was happening and putting himself in the right position to make sure the ball stayed in front of him. Hagans attacks the guy with the ball. Big difference.

My point is that was a team loss and trying to pin that loss on Hagans is revisionist history. Every interaction I've ever seen between him and his teammates was perfectly fine this year, outside one. This reminds me if the revisionist history to blame the Harrison's for Wisconsin and everything the year before until tournament time.
You people not wanting him back are nuts to me. Just as baffling as painting him as a problem player. I would welcome back a 3rd year PG in a heartbeat. Let's not forget he was playing as well as any PG in the country for over half the year. Much rather have Quickly scoring from the 2.
Damn, I forgot about Cal saying that. Short of a surprise to Cal at least at that time, he’s gone.Yeah I will believe when I see it . Dude is gone and Cal sorta made that clear when he was talking about IQ being the main pg possibly next season.
You’re going to use one game during his freshman year as an example? Not only that, but it was at the end of the game when he very well could have lost his legs.Hagans is not, and never was a great on ball defender. He was disruptive off the ball. Auburn spaced the floor to go right at him in the E8 second half.
It's not just one game. He never had been able to keep himself between his man and the basket. Any guard with any amount of quickness blows by him. The Auburn game just sticks out more because of the stage it was on. I referenced it because you referenced how coaches avoided going at AH.You’re going to use one game during his freshman year as an example? Did anyone abuse him during his sophomore year? He was in much better shape this year.
Also, shall we talk about what Decker did to Ulis in 2015? Did you see anyone abuse Ulis in his sophomore season?
Timing makes a difference. Freshmen always hit a wall and are rarely in great shape until their second year.
Hagans got beat at times because he gambled too much. If he guards a guy for 8 seconds, he tries to steal the ball for 6 of those seconds. When you do that and you don't get the steal, you leave yourself wide open to a blow by. But he should also get credit for his ability to recover. It's not just one game. He was good at deflections away from the ball. He was a decent player and disruptive on the defensive side. He just was not and is not a good on ball defender. The announcers hyped him up as a defensive stopper. It's just not true.
