I like Hagans and have defended him many times. But let's not forget this is a guy who posted pictures of himself with stacks of cash online. His need for attention on social media clearly far outweighs any good judgement, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in anything he says or does there.

Nope.

I love Ashton, but part of the reason he had his meltdown at year's end was because he was worried about his collapsing draft stock. I'd prefer not to have to deal with that next year, especially if it cost us the return of IQ.

I love Hagans and what he's done for Kentucky, but it's time to move on.

Quickley or Hagans would you want back?
Both

And I ask why not? Neither has a chance to enhance draft stock other than coming back. With seeing real world **** hit the fan why not be a kid for another season when it’s uncertain if the nba can pay you as an undrafted free agent????

It would actually be weird if he came back wouldn’t it?
Of course I want him back, but there would be a big logjam in the backcourt if he did.
I believe he's leaving, because I don't know what else college can do for him. He can develop a jump shot just as easily at the GL level. Is what it is, I doubt he'll be wearing a UK jersey next year.

Ashton is very young and is maturing like normal people do at his age, please keep in mind. We hope he returns because Kentucky basketball will be better with him. He improved last year and will next year.

I remember when UNC won the championship back in 2005. The team returned and they were celebrating. I think it was Sean May in the heat of the moment stood up and declared they were coming back to do it again next year. Crowd went crazy. 2 days later , the big hitters on the team including Sean May, all announced they were going pro.

Agree. Not sure how anyone who knows basketball would not want a junior Ashton Hagans back.
Exactly. If he returns that indicates to me that he understands his role on the team and the expectations that go along with it. His perimeter D and ability to set up scoring opportunities were a huge part of this year’s success. I know his shooting raises some eyebrows and he’s had some boneheaded turnovers, but no one is certain how well Askew’s game in college regardless of how talented he is.

I think when it’s all said and done, Hagans will go down as Calipari’s most overrated UK player.

I wish no ill will towards the kid, and wish him the best. I just think his reputation outweighs his actual talent on the hardwood.
Skal
Ashton wasn’t overrated at all, he just wasn't a good shooter. He was still a damn good weapon to have. Defensively, he was the most disruptive player of the Cal era, that's not something you typically say about a player that is thought to be overrated.

Overrated? I think I am going with Skal, or Whitney on that.
Agree here....Ashton if he ends up as best defensive player on this year's team (and probably last year's team). Also, he was a top tier assist man in all of college as well last year. I'd easily put overrated:
- Skal as #2 rated in his class will win this as Rob Locke was that guy in past UK era gone by
- Whitney has to be up there with how this year ends
- Harrow was a pretty big let down for a 5* transfer
- Then there are a listing of players that maybe didn't live up to be top level collegiate players but were solid at some things and maybe Ashton fits here to some degree....but IMO he's not even close to the top 3 above and I'd even argue there are others ahead of Ashton.

But what version do we get? Is it the Jan/Feb version? Is it last year's UNC-game version? Is it the Hagans that quit on his team when the times got tough?

If we get another big (or Richards comes back), this will be Kentucky's best chance at a title since 2015 and possibly Cal's 3rd best team since being here. I'm not sure how I feel about rolling the dice on Hagans to lead that team.

If I had to choose now, I'd rather pick IQ for the point next year.

Zagoria tweeted this right before the Quickley tweet yesterday. And Ben Roberts said a few days ago on Twitter that Hagans was "gone." And he's pretty plugged in. He ain't coming back.

When I read that tweet the other day I instantly thought AH was gone but after watching the whole interview where Cal said that...Cal actually said If Ashton “chooses” to go pro a NBA team will get blah blah but I still think he is gone.

Which is why I think the mic needs to be taken from these kids when they're not on the roster, or have even slightly hinted at having a foot out the door. The first word spoken rarely proceeds the first thought.
