A lot of people thought he would succeed. I was hopeful too, but he lost me last year. Anyone can be wrong, but it’s important to cut our losses. I think the Kansas game lost what little support he still had. Who would’ve believed it would be downhill from there. The end of the season will be historically bad with our remaining schedule.

Even giving him the leeway of coming off the Flood disaster the signs were obvious. Even I was guilty at times of overlooking them.

Keep this thread in mind when everyone gets super excited about the next coach
I don't think for the most part much will change because like I said fans will be fans and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I said I'm a feet on the ground type person but I don't see anything wrong with being excited and hopeful regardless of whether things turn out bad or not.

The only thing I'd change is if people dissent don't shout them down as pariahs as long as it's respectful debate everyone should be entitled to their opinion.

This is the right coach people. He's smart, passionate and completely driven to succeed. He will lead us into the top 25 consistently, mark my words. But it will be a process. It won't happen in 1 season, but nonetheless you will see positive changes immediately. Give him 2 years to build a solid team, and within 3 we'll be ranked and in the top half of our division.
If we win the rest of our games, we will be top half of division and probably ranked

You may have I don't remember everyone's posts but I know the general feeling was this guy is awesome etc...he's from central casting...Me I don't give a freak about any of it...I only look at resume and if it's worthy of an opportunity...if so I"m okay with even if not someone I would have chosen.

Anyone who thought he would be good, that's OK. No one really knew for sure.

I just never liked how he came off and then how he benched some of our best players and got rid of our traditions etc calling us basically a 0 respect program .

No he didn’t. We saw real issues during his first year. He waffled on offensive philosophy, hired terrible unqualified assistants, put some our best players in his doghouse and got the living crap beat out of him almost every week. He set all time records in futility losing 78-0 while hosting the recruiting event of the year at home on national television. Many of us knew and said then that he was a disaster and doomed to fail.

His defense lost to Flood twice! Some of us saw this happening from day one. Chicago Glenn and myself were excruciated on this board. A lot of you owe us a formal apology. Especially former moderator.

right but for some reason, RU fans are like cuckolded men with some syndrome. He came in literally bashed us, took away important traditions that memorialized former/dead players and basically told us that all things RU suck so it's all going to be new and the flock didn't bat an eye. Somewhere I can hear, 'honey, I need more, you can either let me play with other men or I can leave your already pathetic life' and then the big, 'OK'

fans need to demand and expect better

Yea but I think a lot of coaches do that to a degree, didn't UM even get on Herman a little about that at Texas. They're trying to reset the bar for themselves when they first come in...etc...Might not like it but that's just what happens often.

But in the end you never know who will work or won't unless you're hiring a select few like Saban/Meyer.

Even now I'm intrigued by Kingsbury lately if he were to be fired. But look at his record, not even .500 overall and not 1 season with a conference record above .500 yet. Certainly not something that would be attractive on its face. But my thinking is year and year out and with different faces his offenses are among the best in the nation but his defense sucks always one of the worst or close to it....so I think if you can just fix that just a little with a big budget for DC and hire a quality DC maybe you can make some noise. But in the the end who knows for sure.

His attitude, disposition, intelligence as a public speaker, history of success, and reputation.

And that's for starters.

Leave it to our fanbase to not understand how to evaluate a winner.

I won't fault anyone for optimism, but ripping the fan base for not thinking Ash was Rockne? Even at the time of the hire that is pretty outrageous.

If fans of a rival recommend a coach, run the other way. Recently a fan of now 4-2 Penn State posted that he thinks we should not hire Schiano. Now I want him more than ever.

At this point, these retread posts are getting stale.

However, I’ve been nervous about this guy since that first Washington game. People forget how lost he seemed on the sidelines with no adult in the room to right the ship that day. The game was moving light speed on him. New Mexico very similar. Guy had never recovered.

We need a guy with executive experience or a HR recruiter. Period.

Have we forgotten that Bill Walsh recommended Terry Shea or that Joe Paterno recommended Dick Anderson? So far there are some good signs and vibes with Ash, but I'm still going to adopt a wait and see attitude with this hire.
Wow.

I agree about Washington. But ash never played Fresno state.
