We’re going to go bowling next year, some how between now and the season opener in 2018 we’re going to find an offense..amazingReally good news. He showed improvement and it will only get better from here on out. I think we will go bowling next year.
In the cutthroat business of recruiting, when it comes to high end players that want to come here, you just know that other HCs were telling those kids not to go to Rutgers because Ash won't last much longer. This extension helps kill all of that talk and hopefully allows us to sign more IMG type of recruits.

Not premature once you see a coach is the real deal lock him in now. He will be RUTGERSThis is a bit premature! Hope they have the buyout $$$ in 2 years saved if necessary.
Zap, you keep harping on this, but are you going to deny our WRs were all freshmen? Our QB situation was not good. Compare us with Minnesota, and the results are similar. We’re going to go bowling next year, some how between now and the season opener in 2018 we’re going to find an offense..amazing
We simply don’t have the players on OL, the backfield QB or WR to have a competent offenseZap, you keep harping on this, but are you going to deny our WRs were all freshmen? Our QB situation was not good. Compare us with Minnesota, and the results are similar.
That's the thing he could have had a breakout year, say we made a bowl with 6 wins, this year and I still wouldn't be a fan of the move. I don't like long term commitments off short term results. Mike London won 8 IIRC in his 2nd year at UVA got a nice extension and bump only to never sniff that again and they were stuck with him longer than they would have liked. Look at Sumlin, who I think is a good coach, and his first year with Manziel. Never came up to it again. I want to see consistency before handing out long term commitments.Ash coached his first two seasons on a signed Memorandum of Agreement -- this represents his first official contract -- that assured he would have years added to his deal equal to the term of any NCAA sanctions placed on Rutgers as a result of an investigation preceding his arrival.
Wow, that does sound fair and prescient of his agent. It goes without saying that if RU manages a breakout season, he'd become a desirable candidate for any job. Also, that salary rate would be a steal towards the end of the deal.
Not really, just look at what Minnesota did with Fleck. It's not an RU thing, it's wasteful AD thing that is rampant across the country. The typical Rutgers thing to do.
Would've been much better renegotiating after next year.
How many games did you predict we'd win this year? How many Big Ten games? We simply don’t have the players on OL, the backfield QB or WR to have a competent offense

OL- somewhat agree.
Backfield-- really? Blackshear looks promising for next year. There's Sneed, Snorweah, and some good recruits coming in.
QB- biggest area of concern. Someone other than Gio needs to emerge. Lewis' sample size is too small to write him off (Lamar Jackson's first game was a big disaster too).
WRs- @gef21 (a football coach) says they are getting better (all freshman). Hope Harris moves back. He has been productive at WR.

This statement has nothing to do with Ash’s extension, I’m happy for him and the program.
We just don’t have the players, and we damn sure won’t in one year
You'd think seeing all these ridiculous buyouts would make some ADs take a step back and think but nope they all just join in the fray. What's worse it actually seems like they're even going more overboard.Highlights everything that is wrong with the spending spree associated with college athletics. Until the TV revenue equation changes I guess this continues unchecked. Rutgers is a mere pawn at this point and anyone who thinks he has shown enough to “earn” an extension is just being overly optimistic. All about recruiting i guess but I think kids and other schools see right through this so the tangible benefit is minimal. I hope he turns out to be the guy but this could very well just be thrown good money away.
You need a powerful back in the B1G than can push the pile on 3rd and 2, take the ball inside the tackles 20 times and wear out the defense…that's Kill's offsnse.OL- somewhat agree.

B1G schedule is harderThis.
The Schedule next year is the easiest since we have been in the B1G and the easiest for the foreseeable future. With an Offense that might actually be worse than this year getting to 6 Wins will be a challenge.
The Extension was made as a signal to reassure future recruits and surely not based on Ash’s performance.
As others have said , surprised this Extension was not made at the end of next year...it’s not like we have a stellar class coming in this February.
Yes, I am not sure where the “easy schedule” comes from for next year. We trade Washington for Kansas, but Wisconsin/Northwestern are much harder than Nebraska/Purdue.B1G schedule is harder
Maybe I am missing it, but does Wisconsin have such a RB? Seems they rely pretty heavily on Taylor. That said, they have a punish OL that creates gaping holes, something RU does not have. You need a powerful back in the B1G than can push the pile on 3rd and 2, take the ball inside the tackles 20 times and wear out the defense…that's Kill's offsnse.
Blackshear is anything but that, Snead is small and slow, Snorweah get no reps…and a true freshmen with promise

Never complained about that, nor money always thought we offered enough. Never complained about recruiting rankings either. It's one of those like your parents use to say everyone jumps off a bridge are you going to as well.I don't understand you guys. For a decade I've read we don't do things the right way. Why can't our AD's act like everyone else in football. Now when we finally do you complain that we are finally doing what everyone else does.
There is no doubt you are against the practice of extending guys for optics. You have stated it repeatedly for years.Never complained about that, nor money always thought we offered enough. Copy the smart things fine, copy what I consider not so smart things....I'm not a fan.
Yes lol, I repeat things a lot with the hopes it flows into the general board conscious, not because I love typing the crap out over and over. Look how many people still say Kill hasn't called plays in over 20 years despite how often I've corrected that notion. There is no doubt you are against the practice of extending guys for optics. Have you seen the 4 SEC coaches fired and their buyouts? Sumlin is due $10,000,000 within the next 60 days.I don't understand you guys. For a decade I've read we don't do things the right way. It is NOT the taxpayers' money. The money comes from athletics. It's the taxpayers' money, not the money of the people making the decision. It's always easier that way. $$$$
