You can view the world as "sky is falling" and we are going to suck or you can take a a more positive view which I am taking until proven otherwise. Is there a chance we beat Ohio St.? Yes, there is a chance, but most likely we will get blown out, but suppose we make it a competitive game or just maybe we pull out a win? Our defense will be better in year 3 of Ash era, our offense can't go anywhere but up from the last 2 years. We have play makers on offense, Melton, Washington, Blackshear, Hillman, Pacheco and have stable of QB's and a seasoned OC. Our back 7 on defense, I think are above average in the BIG and if our Dline can avoid injury, could be respectable, we have over 8 Dlineman over 280+ lbs which I wasn't aware of. So until the games are played and see who are stating QB is and how he performs on gameday, I think 6-6 at a minimum and back to a bowl game! And yes, we are due after the Flood years and the 1st to years of Ash, we are due to breakout!!!
Last year, Ohio State started the season slow:
2017- Game 1, Indiana gave them an initial scare leading the 1st half before they woke up and won 49-21. Game 2 lost to Oklahoma (yeah, we are not Oklahoma)

2014- they lost their second game to a mediocre Virginia Tech

Ohio State opens against Oregon State and plays TCU after RU. Maybe they will be looking past us.
Chris Ash's mastery of defense stumps their new QB and beats his old boss.
McNulty gets inside Schiano's head and beats his old boss.

Fans can dream, can't they?

Exactly and how often do you see upsets in the beginning of the year? There is always that one or two games that no one expected, why can't RU be on of those games?

And in no way am I saying RU will definitely pull an upset, and chances of one are very, very small. As far as Ash's defense slowing down Ohio State's defense, that did not go too well in years 1 and 2, but something tells me third time is a charm.

You have to admit it was funny and very appropriate. You may have not meant it when you started this thread but you opened the door for all the morons to trash Ash and our recruits. I don’t know if you read through this thread or not but that’s what happened and your comments were very leading. To me it seemed like you wanted this to happen plus you title is NJ.com like click bait. I opened this to see good news and got a load of crap.
so people that are not happy with Ash are morons?

No. People are entitled to their own opinions. And many are unhappy for whatever reasons they choose. What I see is improvement in the foundation of the program and better players arriving. Ash took on a ship full of water and has been bailing the water since his arrival. If we go back and check the hopes of many of the posters here when Ash arrived, we are right about at the point where many expected we should/want to be. For those who want a class of 4* players and a ten win season, your hopes are a little far fetched at the moment. Many programs and/or coaches would be hard pressed to turn around the perception and reality overnight of what we were three years ago. This coach has a pointed in the right direction thus far. There have been mistakes made, but it has been an upward trajectory since his arrival.

Saquon Barkley was special. Those players don't come around very often. But I'd be careful here. A fifth-year senior and Heisman candidate at QB, an OL that is progressing from a liability to a strength, a lead RB who was the top-ranked guy at the position in his class, and a number of elite pass catchers doesn't sound like a recipe for a major drop-off in offensive production to me.

PSU's Blue Chip Ratio this season will surpass the 50% mark "necessary" to win a national title, and it should skyrocket into the 60%-70% range over the next couple of cycles. Those expecting a return to mediocrity while Franklin is there and recruiting like this are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Joe knew.

gotcha, thanks for clarifying

I disagree on the initial assessment but it's part of the 'story' or rather 'excuse' as i see it. Nonetheless, thanks

'We are due"? Really? We may upset Ohio State? Seriously? Actually, Rutgers is not "due" anything. Rutgers will not win in this conference against the top teams with poor recruiting and questionable coaching no matter how much you may like Coach Ash. Let's hope he can win 5 or 6 games, but a victory against the behemoths is virtually impossible right now. Maybe this will change in five or ten years, but it is not going to happen anytime soon.
And that is an optimistic reading.
What's it like living in the real world?
