And you pick Lewisburg as one of the pilot towns (an obvious Jim Justice move)?

Way more outdoor activities to do in locations around Fayette County and Boone County. Maybe some of those illegals from the borders will be placed in WV to do telemarketing jobs while voting Democrat.
Boone and Fayette counties dont have the ibternet infrastructure that Lewisburg and Morgantown have. I imagine that plays a part.

It's coming. I moved back to Morgantown last year. Bought a new home. The homes are selling faster than they can build them. Similar homes like ours is now selling 25% - 35% higher than when we bought and that is in just a little over a year.
And this is happening as one of the larger employers in town is laying off 500 people in July.

Checking real estate in my hometown....everything selling quick, except mid-high range within city limits.
It's crazy. I had an elderly neighbor who moved into an assisted living facility the last Friday of March. His house was sold by the following Monday and before it was even listed. And it sold for ~$50K more than it would have 6 months ago. It's nuts.

I told this story recently, but we have space in a downtown building. I don't go in much now. Other tenants haven't moved out, no one is there.

There is retail space and a restaurant on bottom floor, so they dont want security at front entrance.

Well during the winter the bums and vagrants were coming inside to ride the elevators to stay warm....once something gets to empty, or unused, it just naturally goes down the tube.
Our building wont go to complete **** because it is HQ for a bank and a US Senator but Charleston has been going down for a while. I dont think Covid will do much more than speed that up.

My best friend sold his family house in Scott Depot 2 hours after it hit the market. Buyer wanted the deal closed and locked in as fast as possible.

That is Teays Valley. Its nuts but it is a good time to sell a house.

Teyas Valley is expanding rapidly and is an excellent location right of I-64. Perfectly between Charleston and Huntington.

I am in AZ and after 12 years here I am over the summers. I have my own design company and would just need to fly back to AZ to visit sites occasionally. We were thinking of moving either to TN or TX spring of 2022. Now with this we would seriously look at moving to WV. The only problem is there is no major airport and I want to be able to fly direct to Phoenix.

Teays Valley real estate is truly insane. Must be that 3rd Starbucks moving in.

Go to Shepherdstown. It’s about 30-45 mins to Dulles (IAD) from there.

My sister and bro-in-law were looking to buy something near the Jersey shore. A friend of theirs who's a realtor on the shore told them that stuff that sat vacant for years is getting multiple offers now. They're in northern NJ, and the real estate market is insane there too. The same is true in CO. Prices are through the roof, no pun intended. New construction hasn't slowed down either. I have a neighbor who sold for nearly double what he paid 7 years ago. He did some improvements, but not that many. A house I sold in 2012 in a completely different neighborhood in town also nearly doubled since I sold it. That one was a 2 BR, 1BA, detached 1 car garage on about 1/8 acre. It went for nearly $300k. I sold it for $155k.

You could look at northern WV or the northern panhandle. That's a pretty quick trip to the Pittsburgh airport. Likewise, you could go to the eastern panhandle, or maybe just extreme eastern WV south of the panhandle. You could be at Dulles pretty quickly from there.

The Children's Hospital and Healthcare continues to grow....We were the first to move in on my street. 85% are hospital employees, one FBI, a couple of small business owners and the rest is higher ed...and not WVU...go figure

This whole area is a sellers market right now. Was just meeting with a broker friend, in my zip code, there are only a handful of houses on the market to choose from right now, and some of them are spec homes from trac builders.

Homes are selling with in a couple days in my area (western ny). I was told there are currently more Real Estate agents in America than homes for sale right now.

I was thinking of adding a deck to my sunroom and saw current lumber prices, my jaw dropped...new home construction must be slow?
Not here in Charles Town WV.....new developments are going up in several places. Having to wait 2 or 3 months for painting is the norm around here.
Lumber and decking material prices are going out of sight.

You guys tracking on this program put together by Brad Smith’s donation? Offering $10g to relocate to WV to work remotely. If you stay 2 years, you get another $2g.

Apparently you have to move to Shepherdstown, Lewisburg, or Morgantown.

Shepherdstown and all of Jefferson County will explode even more because of this.
I was born and raised in Morgantown........that area is a dump compared to Jefferson County.

Charles Town in Jefferson County. Very easy shot to Dulles and an easy drive to BWI and Reagan National. If you are going south....Hagerstown offers many flights.

That is the breakdown in our neighborhood. A doctor and a few nurses. Physical therepist. A couple lawyers and a US postman. A couple nerds mixed in there.

I get that the hospitals are growing but Mylan is a huge loss and you wouldnt even notice it.

It would be a good time to be a DIY flipper. I would do it if I had the time to put into it.

My Zillow home value went up 5% in a month. Realtor told me that it will probably go for higher than that in this area right now.

Absolute craziness.

In Morgantown, there is an office space shortage. It will be interesting to see how WVU handles this. WVU is trying to offer remote opportunities where they can. If they hire someone for a remote position, I wonder if they will get the money if they decide to move to Morgantown? what if you live in Morgantown and get a remote job based in NYC, will that qualify?
Our office haven’t been in the building since last March and we just did hire two remote positions. One from Kentucky and one from Pennsylvania. The one is a assistant Director. We all said who lives in Morgantown if they makes us go back and not these additional hires. It’s going to be anarchy at WVU

I think a Public University should have requirements that their full time workforce lives within a certain radius to the university itself, or within the state.

Those jobs should go to WVians, imo.

I hear what you are saying but unfortunately the school system haven’t did any justice to some of the research jobs that are here. I wish we could have classes to steer elementary and High School kids to College degrees for some of the needs at WVU since it is a R1 research a institution. Right now there are over 4000 active studies and it grows 20% each year. But just don’t have experienced people in this State for the jobs offered

And all those service people who work security, janitorial and maintanance in those buildings will lose their jobs. That will be a lot of lower middle class workers displaced.
Except cleaning standards have changed. Spaces have to be cleaner now with the virus. So cleaning staffs have to do deeper cleaning to make offices safe. And I don’t think businesses have felt the full impact of the lost personal connections and ability to train new/young employees. Certainly, companies will experience some lack of loyalty from the remoteness of their staffs. And may eventually recall some work back to their offices. But I guess, those able to work remotely could value that freedom enough to stay.

I’m actually not surprised. The lost personal connection has many intangibles that are hard to quantify. I think companies are going to awaken to turnover and uncover issues they have not anticipated. I know when I was working remotely, it was harder to keep fully productive. Some of our systems were slower responding remotely and transitioning to administrative tasks was easier to postpone.
