Schiano was the best football coach we ever had or will have. Imagine him with more money for coaches and recruiting. Think of all the crap that has gone on since he and BM left. BM was the best ad we had, i do like hoobs so far.

No, they didn't need to hire Flood immediately, he could have been interim HC. After the first year, Flood should have been fired, I knew we would end up in our situation. We still have 2-3 bad years before we even have a chance of success.
Flood didn't have to be hired, but after Super Mario backed out Rutgers needed to quickly let the recruits that verbaled know who would be their HC or face losing them.
Keeping Flood an interim HC probably would have made some those commits flip.
Right now it looks like that should have been done, but the goal was to save the recruiting class and that worked out.

After Flood brought home a co:Championship, don't you think he would have been made permanent if he was an interim HC that year?
Let's face it, Flood was a bad hire born out of desperation, but he had a good first year while destroying the RU FB program the way he ran it.

There can be an argument made for Burns and/or Bateman being best, but when talking about playing a D-1A (FBS) schedule Schiano is the only one of the three that did so.

Here's another angle from which to consider Schiano's value to Rutgers.

When GS was considering taking the Rutgers job, he was advised against it by the likes of JoePA. Rutgers was a coaches graveyard and had that reputation. It made it very hard to even get good coaching prospects to come take a look. And getting good assistants was even worse.

Schiano fixed that for us and the better he does.. and his coaching tree does.. the better that is for Rutgers as a place where good coaches can come and work on their careers.
