From what little I know about it, appears it wasn't armed robbery so I'm assuming it would not be felony but a misdemeanor. That said, Rhule code of player conduct is what's going to matter in this case
Its a felony for sure. Here is the burglary statute for reference. Pretty much what dude did to the letter.

28-507.

Burglary; penalty.

(1) A person commits burglary if such person willfully, maliciously, and forcibly breaks and enters any real estate or any improvements erected thereon with intent to commit any felony or with intent to steal property of any value.

(2) Burglary is a Class IIA felony.

Guys this was just his plan to prove to the NCAA that he transferred here for mental issues. I’m sure NCAA will agree he has issues now and approve the waiver.

He couldn’t and least wait till he got to Boulder?

What a wasted opportunity by not using his head..😩
There is a reason the guy left two different schools and tried for #3. Obviously has issues. Now he has managed to throw his football abilities totally away. Very sad. Hopefully he can somehow get his life together without football. Suspect it will be tough.

He said "Proof? you want proof?"
-proceeds to something really stupid.
Transfer approved.

I hate seeing people throw their life away with dumb decisions like this. Vapes? Seriously?

Uggh..I hope he turns it around.
Hope he turns it around???? WTF! The Huskers are the kid's third team. He probably will get probation, play 1 year at NE West Central State college and then play in the NFL. Where he will play half the games due to suspensions.

Stupidity and criminal tendencies are not mental health issues.

I tend to agree with this in most instances. It’s a choice/decision that young men, who often lack a healthy childhood, make and often regret. He may claim mental illness, he may infact be suffering from some sort mental illness, but in the end he made the poor decisions and he will pay a steep price.

There is a silver lining for Arik, if he humbles himself and recognizes it. He will likely, not 100%, be given a light sentence or possibly a diversion program (depending on his record) simply because of his affiliation with the university/football program. It all depends on the judge, but if he shows humility and takes responsibility for his actions, most judges don’t want ruin the life of a young man with potential to be a successful contributor to society. But, if he’s defiant, blames others and deflects responsibility for his decisions… yikes 😬 Could do 1-5 years and will probably never set foot on a football field and/or a university campus again.

I look at this pragmatically. Why would Nebraska incarcerate Gilbert? That cost the state money. Give him a fine and probation and send him back to his home.

I hope he turns it around and saves his life and goes on to become a productive member of society. I root that for everybody.

How can they know his intent?
First, it’s prove beyond reasonable doubt, not “know.” And it might be the part where he threw a concrete chunk, more than once, at a closed store’s locked glass door, kicked down another, then filled a bag with stuff he wasn’t really able to purchase at that time, oh and the hands up acquiescence when confronted by officers. But maybe I’m overthinking it.

Wouldn’t have cracked the 2 deep anyway

Boerk, Fidone, Bonner with plenty of help on the way in ‘24
bonehead. deserves to be gone. That said, on paper one of the most physically talented players on the team, so that seems like par for the course.

^^^ lol this, exactly. Physical talent unfortunately is as important as brain cells, in football.

Maybe when he was a freshman

But he was damaged goods when he arrived, 2 years removed from football and far from playing shape

I don’t think he’ll be missed

Stupid no doubt. Be nice to hear some truth from him why he did it.
I don't want to see the guy locked away forever FFS, I mean come on now. Some punishment, yeah. Like anyone else would face.
I don't think he should(nor will he) have his life ruined over it. He should have a chance to atone. I think we all would appreciate that. As long as he's genuinely remorseful and doesn't do the same dumb thing again.

What he did doesn’t compute. He was on scholarship and I assume a little NIL pocket change. Just not right in the head. Impulsive, self-destructive behavior.

He was damaged. Can’t disagree. ‘Wish him the best’. He’ll find his way to the NFL regardless…

I think Arik’s actions were perhaps a statement against the smoking industry and the dangers of lung cancer.

Too bad our former TE coach was too shitfaced to pick him up

What if … hear me out … the liquor store had an NIL agreement with Arik … they stopped payment because he hadn’t got the waiver approved yet. Liquor store was losing out on their investment and Arik wasn’t getting paid.

He calmly negotiates with them over the past week - they tell him “if you want anything from us, you’re going to have to bust the door down and take it”.

Arik views this as an agreed upon situation, so follows directions to get what’s his!

Ultimately, I blame NIL and the NCAA.

doubt it

there are a dozen Gilberts coming out of high school every year who actually do something on the field, and he's already 21

65-70% likelihood given his original 5-star rating. His damage may put him in the minority, to be fair. He’s 15-30x more likely spending time in the NFL, being paid as an NFL player, than a comparable 3* player coming outta HS. Just sayin. Stats are only stats, they’re only averages w/ standard deviations, but they also don’t lie. Like ever. Which is ALSO why Rhule, THIS FAR FROM OUR LIMITED SAMPLE SIZE vs TIME, hasn’t really shown anything yet that the ‘average’ fan should be terribly excited about.

That said, I’m excited to watch this week. Hope we make PJ Fleck come out @ half down by 30 in a pink tutu, representing his ‘authentic self’. Cool image, just not holding my breath on that.

As a good friend who is a probation officer likes to tell the kids he works with- "At some point, your background issues are no longer excuses and you have to be held responsible for your actions."

How easy do you think it is to make an NFL roster? This dude hasn't cracked the 2 deep over his last couple years of college and now he should be looking at jail time. He should consider himself lucky if he gets an XFL tryout.
