That spot on the bridge of the helmet has said HUSKERS for as long as I can remember, and I'd be pissed if they changed that to some arbitrary area code that the governments assigns.. $.02

In this day of the cell phone, who uses their original area code anymore. I can see announcers mentioning it the first few games but after a while it will be meaningless except to the players. Heck, I am not ever sure of my area code sometimes,

They were going to hold a team vote on it. I have not heard the results of the vote.
Well, if I know college kids (and I don't) I think we can safely assume it was a unanimous No Way Jose! Pretty sure that helmet bridge tradition is very important to 18 and 19 year olds.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first time back onto the board since before David and rivals split. I was a junior at UNL at the time and I was just spending way too much time on the board, so I shut it down. I really got tired back then of the AARP mentality that nothing can ever change and I see that it still exists. I’m surprised many of you are even open to using the internet. All traditions have a starting point. Half of ours such as the tunnel walk are not long tenured traditions. I appericiate our traditions, but many “adults” need to quit acting like a 2 year old not getting seconds on juice. Modernizing isn’t about you and it wasn’t in the 90’s when half of our traditions started. It’s about the kids, it’s about marketing the program to the generation that’s currently relevant to the football program. A simple song change relevant to the times shouldn’t cause such a stir. Anybody upset we’re not the bug-eaters anymore? I didn’t think so.

I guess that rules out my idea of putting the last four digits of their SSN on there.

I'm open to the idea of putting area codes on the front plate. Kids usually have pride in where their from, and like @Pennsyhusker said, shows the scope of our national recruiting.

Full phone numbers would get chicks. Probably a dude or two too, but hey, to get to paydirt you gotta take a couple sacks.

Let's keep the snowflake garbage off of a football board.

I agree, I am all about change if it has some added benefit to the program. Like modernizing a brand or getting recruits. Nebraska is viewed as old and outdated by the rest of the country. We are not in a recruiting hotbed like Bama, or Penn St or Ohio St. We are not 10-15 years ahead in nutrition and weight-room and facilities like in the 90s. We have to do things that make us stand out and get noticed. No recruit cares that we were great in the 90s. Most weren't even alive. If we need to have a few alt uniforms, put area codes on helmets, change tunnel walk song, whatever. I have no idea if any of that would do anything. I am all for trying it, if it will help get us back to the top.

I'll take the other side of that equation... Nebraska has 5 national titles, Oregon has 0... a place like Oregon needs flashy uniforms, flashy shoes, bling this, bling that, or like UCF, area codes on helmets and superimposed graphics and all that PEACOCKING, because as they used to say in the old days, looks like all hat and no cattle. No offense to UCF's new national championship status..

I really don't think the national title thing means anything to the younger generation/ recruits. In their eyes it was way to long ago to be relevant to them. Maybe Im wrong

We can always bring them up to speed and then do some comparisons. Not to mention any correspondence can inform them of 5 National Titles, 3 Heisman winners, the multiple national position awards, and being 4th or 5th in All-Time wins. Wherever we are now.

Most kids now days are about themselves. It is the world we live in. They want to play, and they want to play now. The past mean nothing to these kids. They don't care about what happened at a school, before they were born. Im not say area code, or alt uniforms will make them care more. Just saying the history doesn't matter as much as some like to believe.

Our history is like anything you sell. If they aren't aware of our history, you make them aware of it, and you sell them on it. You're acting as if young kids aren't impressionable. Just talking to young kids in Nebraska's program, they are dopey kids that pay attention to what college coaches have to say. They can be sold a lot easier than people that have lived more of their lives.

I look at it differently. The players I work with don’t really care about what someone else does. They want to do it themselves. History and championships are from 20 years ago are cool and all but they want to win their own titles. They know that Scott Frost can get them to that point. The titles from 20 years ago won’t win them games. The players on the other teams don’t fear Nebraska now. They may well in the future, but that will be because of what they do, and how Scott Frost coaches, not how they won in the 90’s.
