Are you superstitious?

Yesterday morning I was lazy and didn't vacuum the BGE, then I started the charcoal and put 80 wings on. The dang charcoal went out, and I had to start over. What a hassle! Anyway the wings didn't finish until halftime. I had watched the game on my LT the first half.

I go down to the big TV to enjoy the 2nd half. The Hawgs cut the lead to 9, and I went back to the deck, the Cats closed the game out nicely. I finished the thing on my LT.

What are your superstitions?

I've got the no-shave thing going, right now.

Other superstitions can develop during a game... especially if I'm drinking.

Well I feel like the more I am able to concentrate on the game the better chance they have to win lol. Would rather watch alone if possible or at least have a minimal amount of noise/chaos around me.

Re: Are you supersticious?

Oh hell yeah. I'm trying to get better about it though.

1. The Cats play better when I watch on my TV in the basement. Although this year, I have watched a few games on the other TV, but it took 2OT against A&M when I watched upstairs.

2. Need to wear a UK shirt. I have been able to get away with just a blue shirt against some lesser opponents.

3. I need to post in the game thread before the tip off with "Go Big Blue!!!!!!!!". 8 exclamation points.

4. My dog must be wearing his blue collar.

5. I avoid wearing colors of the other team on game day (unless that team is also bllue & white).

In 2010, UK's first loss came when I couldn't watch the game live. The 2012 team lost the SEC final when I couldn't watch live. 2014 nearly lost to Wisconsin, again I was only able to watch the last few minutes live.

The reasonable scientific part of me says that all of this is crazy and absolutely has no effect on the outcome of the game. For example, how do you explain losses when I did all of that stuff. But it makes the game fun for me. I'm not able to go to Rupp or other game sites to watch live, so this is my contribution. Why not? I figure it doesn't hurt anything.

Found a pair of KY socks behind my dryer yesterday. I just left them there. Maybe that's why we are undefeated. Who knows

I posted "boomshockalocka" on the 2nd page of the game thread last year during the first game of the NCAA tournament. We won. I posted it every game, on the 2nd page. It was 5 for 6

Oh hell yeah donfather! If I'm listening in the car to the game, when I get out to watch it on tv, the radio must be changed. It's bad luck to keep the game on that channel of the radio if your not listening.

I think it was the @Georgia game where I finally had to change seats. We started to rally.

Against Florida in the tourney when we couldn't seem to pull away, I moved to that new seat again. Immediately we started to pull away.

Yesterday I just decide to sit there the whole time. Worked out pretty well.

No I'm not superstitious, just cautious.

In theory, no not at all.

In reality, yeah. I just deleted a post because I didn't want to jinx anyone. (True story)

I tend to switch shirts if we have a bad half.

Last year I started drinking green tea from the same mug at the beginning of our SEC tourney run. Needless to say I've not washed it out (other than a light rinsing) and placed it in the same place after games. 41-2 since I've observed this ritual.

No joking this time, sadly, its all 100% true. My 19 year old daughter and I cover up in blankets, hers a blue Uk blanket with the wildcat logo, mine an old rust colored one. She sits on the couch, I sit in my lazy boy, with my old stinky, worn out blue house shoes on. I have to keep my house shoes covered by the blanket until the tip off, then I uncover just the toes of my foot. Keep my feet uncrossed until we do bad, then cross them one way, if that isn't working, will cross the other way, keep this up until something works, then repeat when necessary. My daughter has to sit long ways on the couch with her feet on the couch, not ever touching the floor.
The remote has to stay with me except during halftime, then she has to have it. Occasionally, one of us has to miss a game, then the other has to place the blanket( and in my case house shoes also) just as if the one missing was under there. We are both going to the YUM Saturday, so we will fix both our spots just right before we leave. In case we lose, it will be because my wife has taken the opportunity to wash my house shoes in my absence, and you all can join me in administering some suitable punishment when I return home.

well, let's see - I wear the same tshirt I've worn every game (not been washed yet, but never fear, I take it off as soon as the game is over). I have my UK blanket that I wear across my lap, and my Teddy-Cat sits next to me. I drink the same kind of beer every game, and the bottle HAS to be in my UK cozie. I step outside 7 minutes before tip off, and at halftime. If we are under 10 points at the 4 min mark, I step outside again. I also, for all the other time outs, make sure to read the game thread and sometimes post. And oh yeah - if I'm not extremely nervous, I get worried that I'm not - and if I am, well I have been nearly every game.

so....no, I'm not superstitious

I've got a beard that has not been trimmed since we had 2 close ones in January and a hat that is only worn on game day. I even wore it on Saturday and I couldn't watch the game. I locked myself in my office on Friday and wore it while I watched the game at work. So I'd say yes I'm a little supersticious. Heck while I was in high school I wore a hat inside out for 3 weeks during baseball season while I was on a hitting streak.

That made me chuckle. Great stuff!
I can identify with the craziness.
Starting last year I burn incense before tipoff to rid the room of any bad juju. I had my sons participate in the ritual.
My fireplace mantel has become a UK altar of sorts.
Also I always straighten up and vacuum the living room. Things must be just so for the Cats.

A few moe things...

I have worn a UK shirt every game this year.

I haven't posted in Old Red's prediction contest in years.

Last year during the tournament I sat on one side of couch until the half and then changed sides after halftime.

If I'm smoking a cigarette and we go on a run, I burn that puppy into the filter.

Last year I went on a fishing trip and had to watch championship game in hotel. Never again.

Never buy a Final4 shirt until after the tournament (2011)

I have plenty more

Re: Are you supersticious?

Since before regular season end I have game day socks (the right has a hole in the heel), game day shirt and game day jeans. Other than that I am not superstitious.

It's funny. I believe in things unknown that we don't understand, but I am not the least bit superstitious. Never have been. My take on the whole thing is simple. What happens, happens, because it was meant to happen. Some of the biggest things in my life have occured for trivial reasons, but I don't believe it was because I always did this or didn't do that, they just happened.

Nubb16- must really be something to that hotel thing. I am hardly ever away from home at night, maybe half a dozen nights a year tops. In 1997 I was watching the championship game in a hotel room in Texas. If I ever find myself in that position again, think I'll just spend the night in a tent.

I always let the game get about 20 minutes ahead before I start watching it. Then I fast forward through time outs and catch up right before half time. Same thing in the 2nd half. About 10 years ago a friend down the road came up to watch the Louisville game with me. Well the cats got beat and I told him he was never coming back to watch another. And he hasn`t , but now he likes to drive by a few minutes before game time and lay on the damn horn!!! One of these days i`m gonna be waiting for him. I`ll tell you what i`m gonna do after I decide , but i can promise you it won`t be pretty.

Deacon- just slip down the day before and unhook his horn, then hide and watch him beat the hell out of his steering wheel.
