Know this is early but was just curious to see if the mods/anyone knew of any late targets we may go after when some of our guys do ultimately move on?

If no one moves on, we are 1 over the 13 scholarship limit....it is way too early for this and in a way, it is way too late for a 2021 kid who isn't a no brainer, immediate impact player.....

Any 2021 recruit that isn't signed is going to bump against any 1-time transfers, who the NCAA has declared immediate eligibility this spring. The 2021 HS kid vs a kid with 2 years of play elsewhere, (when that player doesn't have this year count against that players status).

I don't anticipate RU having too many problems filling any spots that open, but it would take 2 departures to take 1 in, right now.

Another factor is let's assume that 2022 recruiting is really the focus....what player is going to be a senior next year?? Normally it would be Harper, Mathis. McConnell, but all 3 have an extra year. My guess is Harper explores his options and evaluation for the NBA (it is a protocol for a free evaluation, not a declaration of the player leaving).

Assuming Harper stays for next year, unless transfers out happen this spring, you have 2 spots for 2022 (I am assuming Myles and Harper stay and play at RU next year).

The free 5th year really should help Caleb and Mathis reach their ceiling of college hoops, I am not sure the ship situation beyond finding a back up Center for Cliff is that drastic.

Personally, I would find it unlikely that you see many, if any, players take advantage of the "free" year here whether it be this year's class or next. And, of course, it takes two to tango so coaching staffs across the country will have a say in who actually gets this free year at their school. If any players at all across the country take a "free year" I would see it used like a free agent / grad transfer type situation to fill a specific need on a roster.

no inside info - but I'd be shocked if we didn't add and lose a players -- with all the movement nowadays, almost no roster stands still

I think it’s 50/50 Mathis stays.

It states that seniors with the now “free year” of eligibility must declare for draft..so I assume there is a time limit for this, & do they get to come back and play another year if not drafted (Young, for example) ?

"In other words, if you have 13 basketball players on scholarship and three seniors stay for their extra year, you still get three additional scholarships for 2021-22. If a senior transfers to another school for that extra season, he or she counts against the allotted scholarship limit (which is 13 for men’s basketball."

Am I reading this wrong or does it mean that it doesn't matter against next year's scholarship count if a senior stays an extra year?
