In offensive production in MLB? With the new emphasis on foreign substance policing, Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer both showed precipitous drops in spin rates on there most recent outing. Seems like this is going to have significant league-wife implications for pitchers and in-turn, hitters.

Sticky stuff is out of control. Just look at the spin rates being talked about and it’s easy to see those that are using vs those that are not. Interesting jump in certain teams in spin rate.

Isn’t Bauer the guy who used the pinetar for one inning to show he could jump his spin rate up to 2650, then didn’t use it the rest of the game, showing his normal spin rate of 2300?

It’s rampant at many levels of baseball. My son pitches in Juco and he says 60-70% of pitchers are putting something on their fingers / the ball. On hats, on gloves, behind their ear, back side of the belt, on the catchers shin guards, etc.

The good news is the hitting will come a back little in the MLB if they crack down on it.

At what point was it actually de-emphasized? Back in the 90’s, it was a regular occurrence to see umpires inspect pitchers glove / hand, and kick them out of the game for using foreign substances. The offender would then get crucified by the media for however long. At some point, umpires just stopped caring about it.
