Goodness, what do we have to do to land this kid? Pardon me if it has been discussed ad nauseam.

That ground has been pretty well covered. He seems to be playing this very close to the vest. Supposedly the Huskers are his personal favorites, but Iowa has certainly put on a push and with the success that they've had with TE's they can certainly make a case. LSU seems to have caught his eye and that is a concern because of their recent success. I believe that those are the main 3. So..... your guess is as good as anyone's.

Iowa? I’m pretty confident this is a LSU vs Huskers battle right now. Iowa has been kind of knocked out if it for a bit now. They won’t give up and will keep trying but I don’t see him picking the Hawkeyes. It will be LSU or Huskers. Until we see something else, he has always been a Husker lean. But LSU could swoop in and steal him if they play their cards right and really win him over. My opinion, he will be a Husker in the end when it’s all said and done.

Latest news was he’s being patient (because he can afford to be) and wants to take his visits if he’s able.
I’ll never blame a kid for wanting to go check out other schools as it’s part of the experience, even if it drives us fans crazy.

But I’m still hopeful he’s been committed in his heart to us all along and will follow his heart to help be part of the rebuid.

I think he just scheduled his first visit to LSU.
For what it's worth, I believe he stated that LSU is recruiting him the hardest followed by Nebraska. So they want him badly, but supposedly the message board LSU fans aren't real enamored with the idea of recruiting a "small town Iowa" player.

actually he said Huskers and LSU are recruiting him the hardest and some of the other teams on his list has stopped. But he said (what I believe you are thinking of) LSU video chats with him everyday and the Huskers do to but not everyday.

But that’s why I said it’s pretty much a Huskers vs LSU battle in my opinion. He said some teams in his top 5-6 have stopped all together.

LSU signed the highest rated TE in Rivals history last year, so I can see why their fans might not be as over the moon with Fidone as ours are.

We will have a wide open room after next year for him to take things over. So for him it’s almost a “maybe” one year redshirt then 4 years of starter status... unless he skips the redshirt.

Agree, I would be shocked if he lands at Iowa. They are competing with defending NC and his boyhood team. I agree I think its down to Us and LSU. When looking at LSUs TE depth it is solid and don't see him playing in the next year or 2. This is where we have an advantage. He comes here and Im betting he starts day 1. I think he is ours, if not it is a major mess up by this staff. He is all buy signed sealed and delivered.

If he goes to LSU I don’t buy that it is a major mess up. A select number of players are offered by LSU. He is in rare company and the honor is high.

If he goes anywhere else (other than NU or LSU), then I can agree the staff would have botched it.

We would be smart to give him tremendous confidence that he will be playing right away. And give him a projection on the amount of money he will make as a stud TE at Nebraska.

Manning, WR, Fidone on the field at the same time is a pleasant thought.

LSU is a big time offer. When looking at a NC program or b2b2b losing season program. It seems like a no brainer. However, he and his family are big husker fans and he has admitted he loved them growing up. Again when looking and LSU TE depth. They just signed the number 5 player in the country #1 TE in the 2020 class. With 2 already on roster.
We have 5 I believe with Stoll and Bubak graduating . Allen, Rafdal ,and Vokolek will be seniors next year. Basically leaving Fidone as a potential 4 years starter.

All excellent points. But the allure of a program like LSU can be hard to turn down.

I agree with you that he’s ours to lose. But if we lost him to LSU, can you blame him for choosing them? I know I can’t.

Agreed on Iowa being out. They offered a couple their TEs a month ago so that’s a pretty clear sign.

he'd be a 4 year starter if all on the roster had infinite eligibility

KKKF thinks he’s definitely the right color to fit in at Iowa.

Is all I have to say is you don't go toe to toe with LSU to redshirt a player like this at a position of future need. We get him then he plays right away, barring injury.

agreed and I wasn’t even trying to be a dick about it. I was pretty confident Iowa backed off of completely (more so mutually backed off each other). Like I said, it’s been an LSU vs Huskers battle with Michigan trying to claw their way into the mix....I believe.

In my view, his options are:

1) Go to a program that is going to put up video game stats and have 10 players drafted each year.

2) Go to a program that your heart is invested in where you might be part of turning something around. Very few NFL draft selections and not much national attention for a while.

I think the Huskers need to lean in VERY heavily on the emotional pull and proximity to family. Of course, offensive game plan will help but the way to win with him seems clear to me.

Rollins from CPrep.

that’s my pick for our number our second TE in this class. My guess, we will land Rollins and then we will eventually land Thomas Fidone. But LSU will make us sweat and work hard for it till the very end.

In the end, Fidone wants a chance to play and possibly start early and the Huskers give him the best chance at that. LSU is good to go with A Gilbert and that Top 250 4 star TE from Colorado in last years recruiting class and Fidone will see that. If he wants to play and start early...it’s the Huskers. If he doesn’t mind sitting for a few years....it’s LSU.

I get your point. LSU’s offense was killer last year. But when you look at 2018, their offense wasn’t very good at all. They ranked Top 70th in the country and ranked 9th or 10th in the SEC.

They had one of those magical years last year and they are not always putting out video game type stats offensively. You’d have to go back to 2015 when they last had a solid, not even good offense again. Now that Burrow is gone, their offense won’t be anything like last years offense. Their thing is usually defense.

I can guarantee you Pelini and all the former Huskers on that LSU staff would like nothing more than to pluck Fidone off our front porch. Put the knife in and turn it.

So Warren Academy had a player showcase today July 25th. Fidone was the focus of KETV video coverage of this event, no interviews were broadcast. Anyone here know anyone attend this as an observer? What say you DB ?

Iowa has given up. They aren’t trying. Haven’t reached out to him in a month. Lots of new scholarship offers out to other tightends.

It’s LSU and Nebraska.

The mastermind behind the offense is gone too. Nebraska will also get better, much better. Things aren’t going to stay the same for either program.

exactly and that’s why I’m glad we WILL have a season so Mr Fidone will see that first hand. We all know he will watch ever Husker game, being he’s a Husker fan and all.

Maybe Pelini, but Bill Busch tipped Frost off about Volek and Mauga-Clements, after LSU didn’t have room for them. So not everyone down there has a huge chip on their should like BoBo.

Hard to do when they’re the worst players on offense

Stoll and company stink out loud. Hopefully vokolek brings something to the table this year.

that is exactly what I was going to say. Getting Fidone, A J Rollins and having Chris Hickman should help in that area in a hurry.

yeah, I was pretty confident Iowa wasn’t ever going to get Thomas Fidone. Plus side for Iowa is, you guys are good to go at TE regardless and will land some solid prospect/s anyways. So it’s a win/win for everyone.
