Apple Watch music streaming?

Does anyone use their Apple Watch with cellular plan without their Phone to stream music while working out? I recently purchased an apple watch but can’t get Spotify to stream without phone. It looks like I have to download individual songs to the watch to listen independent of the phone.
Looking for verification or work around.

You can only “DJ” your Spotify music from the watch. You can’t truly stream it thru the watch app. They want you to sign up for Apple Music instead.

I admit... they got me. And it’s glorious. I stream from the watch every day and leave the phone behind.
